Wow, what a coincidence, I just did this for a customer earlier today. They were super impressed and paid a nice tip. I didn't tell them it took me less than 1 minute.
Based on the comments to my comment from 2 years ago apparently I need to further explain. I was hired to do an INTERIOR job only, and noticed scuffs on the exterior paint. I used this method to repair their paint then followed up with a wax. I was not paid to touch the exterior, and did it as a favor out of appreciation for their business. When I presented the finished interior job to the customer for their inspection, I didn't even mention I fixed that area until they noticed and asked me about it. It's called putting your customers interests first, and yes, they pay me well for that.
Thank you. This was so easy. I only had acetone free nail polish remover and that worked well--maybe not as severe on the paintwork as acetone? I really like your video! Why? Because you got straight to the point! I usually can't stand USA presenters because they rant on with unnecessary introductions and life histories about themselves and all the problems the watcher may or not have!! So congratulations and thank you again.
Wow! I just got back from the car wash and they gave me a song and dance about removing the black scuff marks off of my white car-$$$. So when I got home I hit the internet to see what could be done. I don't have straight up acetone but, I do have fingernail polish remover with acetone, thanks to someone's comment on here. To my surprise, the scuff marks are completely gone!! I then rewashed those areas and buffed. Thanks so much for making my car lovely again and for saving me so much money!!
This method probably just saved me from getting a claim put in on my insurance I’m so grateful! I used acetone nail polish remover and it literally just rubbed right off. My rental is looking good as new ☺️
@Bawse625 Same! I came out of the store yesterday and saw that some jerk scuffed my beautiful, new, black cherry SUV! I was livid…still am! Gonna try this hack today.
I've always understood that acetone is commonly used to remove paint. How is it that when it's applied to the body of paint on the vehicle such as shown in your video it doesn't remove/damage the paint?
Great question. I’m not a chemist so I’m not really sure. I’m sure it’s something to do with cured, vs non cured paint or the difference in paint hardness. All I know is it works. I’m sure if you let the acetone sit on the clear coat long enough, it might do some damage. But in this case, it evaporates to quickly to do anything.
Thank you so much - I was a bit scared to use Acetone on my car's paintwork but nothing was working for the really extensive plastic scuff and scratch marks I had on my car. If this didn't work the next stop was the car paint shop. Thank goodness it worked a treat with a bit of elbow grease - I was so happy. I'm now not embarrassed about the state of my car!
Great How To-DIY video! Quick, concise and the information presented can be readily used! Also he presents the concept (yes concept, what ya call it does matter!), a "Scuff" mark, whether it is paint, rubber, plastic, etc. Good use of video examples too. Give's a "warm fuzzy" like watching "Matt's Off-Road Recovery" video's (except this was a one man show).
Man this saved me a trip to the shop cause i definitely thought i had some scratches underneath them black marks on my car but this 2 step method actually works and my car is as good as new 👍🏾
Yep - this really works. Scuff marks above rear wheel arch of new SUV. Followed your guide and all the marks have now gone. The area has come up like new. Thank you
This worked like a charm! Literally within 60 seconds the entire scuff was gone! I used nail polish remover with acetone because it’s not as strong as the can of pure acetone I have. Thanks so much for this unbelievably easy tip!!! Rewashed the area well and wax is next!
Hi I got some black scuff marks yesterday done by a truck that drove by my park Tesla and rubbed their car on my front bumper. No serious body damage just black scuff marks. Is acetone really safe to use on paint? I also have a white car. I will try this but on a small part first to test. Thanks
Did this to mine the minute scuff and paint transfers unfortunately now it affected the paint underneath. It was a dab of acetone on a small cloth and now there’s a smudge on my car paint 😓
Good info but looking like Quasimodo bro you got little kids running away squealing n crying...put some got damn sunglasses on. (Don't get self-conscious...there's something crazy that can be said about all of us.)
@@TheDetailingBusiness me again, just wanted to thank you for this tip! With 3.99 for a bottle of acetone I was able to remove some stuffs be my rear drivers side fender from a cart side swiping me, it’s like if nothing is even there! My porches pain looks brand new thank you again and blessings.
I’m not a chemist but I would say because car paint is cured and hard. Paint transfer is soft and uncultured. Acetone isn’t strong enough to remove cured paint
Anywhere that sells paint for your home. Walmart Lowe’s Home Depot. It comes in quart also. www.walmart.com/ip/V-I-P-Klean-Strip-Acetone-1-Quart-Paint-Thinners-Solvents/17208793?
Is this the same acetone you can use to remove fingernail polish? Cuz if that's the case I can just go to the store and buy some fingernail polish remover
Look for klean strip acetone in the paint section at Walmart, lowes, Home Depot or your favorite hardware store. www.walmart.com/ip/Klean-Strip-Acetone-1-Quart/17208793?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&wl13=1264&adid=2222222227817208793_117755028669_12420145346&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=501107745824&wl4=pla-294505072980&wl5=9058979&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=17208793&wl13=1264&veh=sem_LIA&gbraid=0AAAAADmfBIpHk4KAlAOUy91MIA8ftAsDY&gbraid=0AAAAADmfBIpHk4KAlAOUy91MIA8ftAsDY&gclid=CjwKCAiAv9ucBhBXEiwA6N8nYGFfOfKm4pidxJ7IruKPD2hoK6gjVTPPN_TV_Gd32BC0kwlq8VURhhoCxfAQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Since it’s coated, it should be fairly easy to remove with a cleaner wax. Depending on the quality of the coating it should hold up to the acetone but I’d use it as a last resort
