The nut was torqued either to spec or past spec when you put the torque wrench on it because the nut didn't turn at all, only the the rotor because the guy on the brakes foot wasn't heavy enough. I guess I will buy a 12 point axle nut socket set, thanks for the video.
Before I buy an 30mm axle socket for my 2019 corolla hatchback, do you think it might be the same size as the corolla sedan that you are working on? I was also wondering if I could reuse the same axle nut when I remove it ? Last Q, if I were to damage the axle nut can I buy the axle nut separately at Toyota ?
I have not done a corolla hatch yet but you may be able to carefully pop the plastic center cap out without removing the wheel and see. If it is 12 point I would bet for sure it is 30. If you carefully unstake the nut you can probably reuse it but that is not the "right way" but ultimately it is up to you. Yeah they sell the nut at the dealer, but also available aftermarket
you'll have to replace a perfectly good axle. Don't know why toyota thinks they need such a long spindle and a axle nut that is so hard that it messes up all the treads when removing the nut.
My camry sometimes intermittently makes a ping/clunk when I shift from Park to reverse after standing for a day. Could this be from axel or more likely brakes?
I was not able to reuse the old nut because the threads of the part that was staked interferes. So I am using a new one from skf , but the new nut is hard to turn and it gets warm as I turn. Is this normal?
@@paulkelley86 Thank you for your reply, also i have another question, What if i used a breaker bar and removed the nut without unstacking it and later on replaced axle nut, Can cause any damage to the threads of the axle ?
Varies model to model. You are unlikely to cause damage at 217 but we reference toyota service information directly so I bet that was correct, I don't memorize specs, too many and not enough hard drive space upstairs to fill it up with something easily referenced.
good info. however Rav4 axel nut need 32mm socket NOT 30mm as you showed in your video. we do not understand why you show part number for something you end not using in the repair??
