Usually the tallow has liquid and impurities at the bottom, after the refrigeration step. I pull out the solid part, scrape off the impurities stuck on the bottom, and repeat the heating, straining, and refrigeration processes. This makes it whiter and it removes the beefy smell. Making pemmican with it!
Must be fun to wash the grease off the plastic blender. Maybe cook it with the lid open to let the water escape. What meals can you eat the solid bits with?
My butcher sells grass fed/finished that they ground and freeze. Really convenient that way it renders very fast. There aren't many fat sources that I find as palatable as tallow. I can literally eat it on it's own, it's delicious. Have you ever made pemmican?
That's indeed very convenient! Funny enough, I never actually asked my butcher if he could grind it up for me. I'm actually going to do that next time! :) No, I haven't tried pemmican yet, but it's on my list!
I don't know why my parents are so adamantly convinced that canola oil is healthy. Beef tallow is so much easier to extract than canola oil and you dont have to use any hydrocarbon solvents.
Believe it or not, when I was a kid and I would get sick in Louisiana my grandmother used to rub beef tallow on my chest. it used to smell like eggs to me.
