I've just scarified my front garden of about 270 square metres, twice, with a cut before and in between, plus hand scarifying with the Wolf Garten scarifying rake any areas I couldn't get to with my electric scarifyer (Hyundai model ‎HYSC1800E). I raked up LOADS of thatch and moss (I don't think it's ever been done). I then over seeded, followed by 1,500 litres of Field No.4 Organic Fine Grade Lawn Dressing (excellent stuff), which covered approximately 200 square metres (I need to get some more to finish the job). I have to say, it was all REALLY hard work. Maybe it's just me, but I found it hard. All in all, I've spent around 20 hours on it (I may have been a little fussy, hence it took longer than it should have done), so I can appreciate how much effort you put into this work. Fingers crossed it will pay off in a few weeks time.

Aerated the first 1000sqm of the garden at the weekend and then had rain that night and it's the first time we've not had pooling or marshy ground afterwards. Second 1000sqm still to be done and then spread a mix of seed, sand (to help drainage further) and fert to help the grass beat back the moss

Hi so if you scarify chances are there wont be much grass left if its very mossy. If you put weedol on you wont be able to do any seeding for a couple of months and then itll be super hot and not an ideal time.. so maybe weedol now..wait a week or 2.. then a light scarify to help the grass and perhaps another scarify early autumn

Thank you for sharing this beautiful lawn renovation with us Shaun. I have weeds (some nearly a foot tall) that have taken over my bare garden which I have been planning on putting seeds on after Ramadan finishes. Is it a good idea to kill them off with first with Roundup first and wait for the leaves to go full brown or pull them out and then apply roundup? I'm scared that if I do either way, weeds will start to come through while I wait for the Roundup to do it's bit. What would you advise? Thanks mate.

Hi if you apply roundup itll also kill grass and anything it touches.. if your work with that and are planning scarifying, seeding and topdressing the roundup is the way to go..apply then wait 2 to 3 weeks then renovate.. otherwise I'd just pull the big stuff out.. seed then look at applying a LAWN weedkiller in afew months cheers

I would be buying from my local Hilliers garden centre so if you could recommend any specific brand or type I should buy that would be amazing 😊
