You can get the parts from others places besides SEARS, including that small filter. My heater is a Masters, made by DESA which appears to be exactly the same manufacturer for SEARS. Thanks for the Video, don't bother with the haters!
have a sears heater much like the one you are repairing.. It seems to be in much better condition.. Used your helpful video and cleaned it up.. It fires up fine but will only run for a minute or two then shuts off. The more i try to run it after it has run a couple of times it seems the run time is a little shorter.. any suggestions?
brad at ccg Don't know Brad - watch the other videos i have and see if it Helps - try taking the top off and see if you can see what it's doing - may be the pump ........... Stan
this unit was made by desa industries they made them under several brand names. they make a master tune up kit that includes a new igniter and all the filters and gaskets so you dont have to make the square one
Are you able to replace the front shell heat shield on these type heaters? My heater has been painted over several times hard to tell which brand it is but this heater you have in your video almost looks like it to a T. The front shield on mine is burning out. Or maybe I can fabricate a shield if I can figure out the right metal . Thanks for your time
Stainless steel would be the best. Sometimes you can get a plate (dinner plate, or a dog bowl/ dog plate) made out of stainless, or try a junkyard. Good luck with your project
FixinThatUp thanks for the quick reply. I searched with a few different terms and never came up with anything. Did you ever get the heater 100%, mine exhibits the same symptoms as yours, no starts, delayed starts, and lots of smoke. I believe this a worn nozzle issue (reddy heater diag says if lifting the lid lets it light it needs a new nozzle) unfortunately the nozzle for this heater is no longer available. I have a close alternative ordered and I will let you know how it works out.
i need to adjust the air and have not done so - u know how it is - one of the many things on the list - i think that's what it needs but for the meantime i just raise the back up and put the 2 screws that holds the hood under the back of the hood and it works fine
you can get all these parts online elsewhere. just because sears doesn't have them doesn't mean you can't get them. I found a nozzle and that lint filter online
Im buying one of these heaters today Used off craigslist for 50.00 bucks . He said it wont fire up . Im thinking it not getting fuel so Im going to take a chance on it . I bet I can get her to fire up . Im a good mechanic and work in The hvac Industry and should be able to get parts from granger supply .Sears torpedo Kerosene heaters are made by desa .
Well I got the heater home and she had a lose fan blade and the fuel line I think is plugged up Im not sure if its a air problem or a Clogged fuel Line . I didn't remove the nozzle to check if it plugged up . At this point I need a filter set and clean the nozzle or at worst it the pump body vanes worn out in the back of the motor .
Any idea why a 75,000 btu unit works better with the fill cap off then screwed on? Im talking about the fill cap on the "gas" tank. The unit is a Master MH-75T-KFA 75,000 BTU

I had a few that I had to put a small metal wedge or something under the hood so it wouldnt shut all the way and would keep lit lol.. Needed a full internal parts tune up on mine. Which if ya see what new ones go for it was worth the parts of parts and time to work on it!
Pretty good video. I also bought a repair kit from www.torpedoheat.com/ It was very reasonable in cost and I got new hoses with it too. Now my heater runs like new !!! Thanx and thumbs up !!
you dont say, NLA they are all over ebay as A KIT, even for this early to mid 70's heater. Refer to sphincters as relaxin and cork gaskets compressing. Repaired just in time for foreclosure on the farm. You got lucky Pal. please get a job as a wal mart greeter and leave the heater repair to the professionals. Were you two guys ever on King of the Hill?
