How to repair a Nintendo DS Lite NDSL Touch Screen 1 

Sweet. My son started it, my wife dogged him halfway thru the project, I ended up taking it over, and he put on the very final touches. Touch screen replaced. DS still works. I told my son that back in the late 80's we used to take this crap apart and hope that we could put it back together, working. With your vid, it was no worries. Thanks, homie. et2kah

Great videos! I was able to repair my daughters DS Lite very quickly. It was such a snap that I even volunteered to repair two others for family members. Two failed top screens, one scratched bottom screen. Thanks for sharing.

No problems replacing the touch screen on a DSLite here, this video was extremely helpful. And better quality than many of the others I checked, especially good camerawork here.

This was a great video. I performed the touch screen replacement without any issues. The only thing I would make a little more apparent is how to lift the black level when releasing the ribbon cables. The video shows the presenters thumb over that part and it is not very clear on what exactly you are support to lift. I figured it out but it would probably help others.

@MikenMarty I finally figured out why the DS would not come back on after I replaced the lcd. The replacement lcd did not have a protective layer on the back of it to keep it from shorting out the logic board. I had to put electrical tape on the back of it to match the original. tada! working :) It's really confusing as to why the manufacturer did not put the protective layer on it just like the original has.

@ChibiParty Well yes I did. I went back and cleaned all the connectors and contacts and made sure they were all in right, guess one of them wasn't quite seated right. Keep trying, take your time and maybe you'll get it to go. Good luck.

I tried this, and everything seems to be working, except my touch screen is really faded now. I can see it if I hold it at an angle, but not clear straight on. I have no clue what I did wrong. It works well enough for my little kids I guess though. Thanks for the tutorial.

Overall excellent video! Thanks for posting - From the looks of it, it appears that you have done a few of these before - however one comment; I would suggest installing the touch screen cable first and then the bottom screen cable. The reason why is because you can place the MB and the screen on a flat surface and work the TS cable into that much too small cable clamp decreasing the possibility of muffing up the clamp as I did. Fumbling with both and aligning the cable was a bit too much

@plasturion I put the ribbon cable on its place and taped it with a bit of adhesive tape. I haven't had any problem so far, for 4 months

@demonwolfdawg Im sure that the small ribbon for the touch screen is in right (I had an old ds that lost sensitvity and im sure it was that ribbon was disconnected and the ds never shut down after half a second)

@amosallami01 no you need a new top screen cause the bottom dosent have the ribbon cable that connects the top to the bottom. So you need the top screen. Just tell me if you need help.

@amosallami01 the top screen is the one that has the ribbon cable that connects to the bottom. the bottom connects on ly to the motherboard of the bottom side. try to looke at pictures of top ds replacement or something like that.

@amosallami01 yes thats what happend to me so I followed the turorial and fixed it. The cable that connects the bottom and top is called the ribbon cable just to let you know. :)

Used this to replace the LCD part of the bottom screen. Replacement did not have the rear of the LCD insulated. Didn't think, too late now, have blow SMD fuse on motherboard. :(

@ captain jumbo , u need to calibrate it.. I think u can do it in the settings

Great vid . Other commenters ,if you think you might need 1 if cracked or just not working ,then replace. less then a fiver on eBay and 15 mins to fix ,watch vid a few times and PAUSE when need to have the right tools and take your time .its not rocket science.

Excellent video. 1. You move too fast quite often - slow down so we can see what you are doing 2. Without double-sided tape the repair-job is not going to work on a really old unit. Have decided it's a bit tricky and will rather send back to the shop.

Screen replacement went well, thanks for the very detailed video. I now have a new problem. The DSl will no longer start up after the screen replacement. I went back and doubled checked all the connections and reseated them just in case. Still nothing. Orange LED->turn on->quick flash of the screen then shuts off. Any hints? m

i dont trust myself enough to do this, the tutorial is really good, but now I am sure that I cant do it! Anyone know where I can go if I want to pay someone to do this?

I have replaced my touch screen after following this guide and now it won't calibrate at all - there is just an endless loop of tapping the squares. I haven't put the plastic border on yet, but don't want to if I'll just have to replace the touchscreen again. Could dirt underneath the screen from when I put the tape back on have done this or is there an easy fix?

I too had no black flip lock/snap lock on the tiniest ribbon cable. I never saw one. How DO you attach it? Is there a newer method that does not include a snap down black piece?

where do u get the triangle headed screw driver.the problem with my touch screen is that i can't touch it but its not cracked.can i just check to see if the cable is not connected well and then buy a new screen.thanks

@WalkerBros4Ever I had the same problem, the tiny clip that holds the touch screen popped out, and disintegrated.... I don't know how to fix it.

What do i do if the door for the small ribbon cable comes off, it broke

At what point do you transfer the white border off the old screen onto the new one? I didn't see this process in the part 1 or the part 2.

My Ds lite is fine top screen working bottom screen slightly working. Touch responses work and light is on but the colors are off or contrast everything is so bright and I can barely see. This happened because water got into it and im wondering if its fixable

Does this work for cases where the cable connecting the top and bottom half snap?

same thing here. i replaced the screen, and now the orange charge light comes on for a split second, then shuts off. ive ttried over and over to retrace my steps, but it still doesnt work-what have i done wrong???

Hi there, Could you please help me?! The tab for the touch screen on the m/board while I was taking the ribbon of pupped off, and now I am left with no tab on it, is there a fix for that at all? or should I kiss goodbye my DS for my little son and forget it ?! :(

ok idk what to do, when putting the ribbon cable back as shown at 8:00 the little black part that holds it down came off, and i cant find a way to put it back on, it seems impossible... is there any other way to hold this rbbon cable down? or am i screwed

@Mrfitrider1 you can try getting a new battery? mine does that but my bro broke the top screen by smashing it and taking off the light cover so it just flashes :/ im using my moms ds now...

I just did exactly the same thing, the little black clip came off, it is so small it's hard to see to try and get it back on!

not sure really sometimes they work sometimes they don't.. idk what the deal is but sometimes u can really jam the button and it will barely work, i would take it apart but i dont have a tri head screw driver..

@demonwolfdawg ok....I reseated the ribbon like 3 times and now it works (the top screen ribbon) BUT my screens are all messed up, there really dark and sort of disorited is it the ribbon? (the DS lite has been in a box in a garage for almost 2 years and had taken a fall last use (2 years ago)

Hey, i broke the second ribbon cable's clip thing that it goes into. Now the touch screen doesn't work. Is there a way to fix this?

i have a problem with the A B X Y buttons some of them are not working i got to press them really hard to work, and one of them is completely usless, is the re any fix for this?

I slid the ribbon cable of the touch screen back into the black slot and locked it firmly, but the DS wouldn't turn on, what do I do?

Hi, can somebody help me out with this. Ok so my DS is charged and everything so that cant be the problem. I turn it on and it goes to the screen that tells you to reaad the saftey manual before playing or whatever. You know, the very first screen. So anyways the screen says touch to continue, so obviously i touch the screen. It doesnt continue unless you press A. So thats one problem. Then after you continue the whole screen turns white and stays that way.

@MikenMarty Mine is doing that too! I contacted the company and told them they sent me a faulty lcd screen, but the new one is doing the same thing. The old broken one works when I put it in though. Anybody know what's up here?

yes, you should open your ds and remove the mother bord and clean the buttons with hot water or alcool

@oCYBERPUNKo lucky you. I dont have this little plastic thig, lost somewher. I tried many times once it worked when i pressed ribon to the board. Now doing this wont help. Probably i've broken tracks on ribbon somewhere. Im forced to play d-pad games, or sell my best handheld system on ebay.

Alright so i bought this DS off my friend it had a bad Touch screen AND hinge so i replaced the screen AND the shell *btw its translucent blue=3* nd i found the problem, my friends dad got in it and broke the touch screen ribbon connector -.-" i bought a new connector now all i need is the soldering gun and wire, so what size do i need
