Our hair is made of keratin, and this keratin exists in 3 layers. Between each of these layers are bonds which hold them all together. These bonds can become broken or damaged by various factors, leading to damaged hair.
Disulfide bonds - Can be damaged by bleach and chemicals
Hydrogen bonds - Can be broken by excess moisture
Salt bonds - Can be broken by pH change
