Eddie Burks Love the MacGyver blueprint reference. Thank you! "When something's broken, the easiest thing is to throw it away, forget about it. But if you just step back and take a look at what you've got, you find a totally different way for it to work." MacGyver quote.

"You can also choose to fix it right so it will last". Quote from everyone thats experienced with fiberglass. What You did is great for a riced up honda that will see a scrap yard in 3 or less yrs or end up in an impound for 7 days thats makes it to expensive for the owner to get back. So much wrong with this vid for a proper repair. From prep to installation

@@bonnivilleblackcherry9745 - Ok, so back up your critique. Spell it out step by step. How should it go then? Having the visual of this particular project as reference in mind & your steps should be beneficial. So again, back up your critisism & show us - for those that want to do it right as you say.
@bonnivilleblackcherry9745
@bonnivilleblackcherry9745 5 лет назад
@@michaelsalcido3736 Degrease before you grind/sand into it as not to get and oils/silicones into the opened up surface. No need to cut it open in the line of the break as you should sand/grind it out front and back 3-4 inches or as much as space will allow with a long taper. brush on the resin and then start with layers of glass from narrow (not much wider than the opened repair) to the width of your tapered area and it should be done from both sides. When installing the glass you work out all the air as leaving little pockets of air as this guy has done takes away from the strength of the structure. If you did the repair properly it is just a waste of time and material to use a poly based filler. Even if you do you don't mix it with the activator to the extreme this guy has. It makes it brittle and especially in this case being on a bumper cover thats not in the least wanted. Then he mixes it on cardboard. This draws out the chemicals from the filler which reduces its effectiveness.

This a GREAT video. I myself have done these types of repairs on boats and you're dead on correct with your instructions. You ROCK Dude!! Now, I'm going to run out and repair the rear fenders on my old Chevy Big Dually. LOL. One thing, though. You're using resin based fiberglass for this repair. This is perfectly fine. I use MAS epoxy instead. It's a little more pricey but it gives me a lot more working time - like four hours. It sticks very well to polyester based fiberglass as long as you grind the surface first. But you did that. Also, you showed using chop strand as a reinforcing material. This is also good but I like to use glass cloth. Again, it's a little pricier but I don't get all those hairs sticking to my gloves while working. BTW, anyone that does get this resin on your skin, take it off with vinegar. GREAT GREAT GREAT video. Love your work.

Really great video, very informative. This is primarily for others who are watching this and don't know how to do this, when you are mixing the body filler with the hardener, DON'T USE CARDBOARD. You want to mix on something that's not absorbent. the cardboard will soak up the resin in the filler. Use a piece of glass, or the mixing paper or something that's non porous.

I would have put a piece of masking tape on the front side covering the crack. The newly hardened resin is harder than gel coat and this will save you time of sanding and filling. However, your way is good to and all that matters is the end result. I use to manufacture and repair boat parts many years ago. I miss the creativity of building parts. Thank you for sharing your video, I have a new project coming up and your video helped to get me in the right frame of mind.

If you are doing a small project, or just patching one, you can get gel coat in spray paint cans from dolphinite to finish it. They do clear coat, regular or custom colors (will match to a sample), with no mixing, getting the equipment, or cleaning up. They work well and make it easy.

Thanks for sharing this man! How the hell did you made this without the safety glasses, respirator, and using a plain cardboard to mix the bond!!? And how the hell did you manage to have dry strips without having air pockets in your project? Or, perhaps you had them, but they are well hidden under the layers of resin and strips...let me think, does it make a bumper even lighter? Did your fuel economy increased after this project? ...this was for those whose purpose of life is to crap on everyone else without making a move themselves to show it how is done.... Fastestintegra, great job and you helped me a lot!

Well I decided to watch this after doing a repair to my ladder... Audio sucks but still a good video. And while yes you can soak the fiberglass BEFORE putting it on I NEVER have... But then again I work the resin in with a brush very well when I coat. I did boat repairs years ago that are still good to this day by putting the cloth on dry. It's all in the details folks. Gotta make sure you work the resin in COMPLETELY!!! If your cloth hasn't turned clear... It isn't completely saturated.

I have a drum set made out of fiberglass and I modified one of the Tom Toms where there are small 1/4 inch holes from where the lugs used to be on. If I used a fiberglass repair kit to fill the holes, do I 1st coat the small holes with fiberglass resin, then add the strands of fiberglass, then more resin, then more strands of fiberglass, rinse and repeat until the hole is filled??? The small holes is only 1/4 inch round and about 6 mm deep.
