This type of on-site repair is done for time and money and not the most professional repair. The correct way to fix a leaded glass window is in a shop and on a flat surface to completly disassemble area of concern. I did this leaded glass window on the hottest day of the year in San Juan Capistrano south Orange County California. I love my job and Would like to give a shout to Lindsay for tagging along with me to make this video. Thanks world James Jones on instagram @quartermexican

Wish you were in my neighborhood. As usual, everyone wants to charge me a new motorcycle when they pull up to the property, when in fact, this is exactly the repair I would prefer!

@@probono3284 Notice in typical MAGA style, he fades into the 'no reply zone' when they're wrong. And what does Obama have to do with anything? It's always like 'Yeah, but what about?.' Plus, he corrected her grammar and he used 'your' instead of 'you're'. Can't make this stuff up. But the worse thing is his attitude. Not good PR for any business, MAGA owned or not.

Point remains either way. Fuck Obama. You're still doing something amazingly stupid. Google "Silicosis". Once that shit gets into your lungs, you have no natural way to get it out, and then it's just a time bomb irritating your breathing every day until you have a permanent debilitating disease. This is why you wear a mask when you cut concrete. The cement has silica in it. But you're not getting something which is partly silica, you're straight up sanding glass. Stay safe, or you'll be one of those schmucks on Obamacare with a self-induced prior condition.

I don’t understand RU-vid professionals. How can it be a DREADFUL repair. This is an out dated look for Houzes to have this fugly leaded glass Window in the first place. So why not just rip this ugly, outdated, leaky and broken window and replace for less than the correct repair methods you describe. I’m going to expect you to remove 27”x72” tall said Window without breaking anymore or possibly destroying altogether to bring into shop or near by table. To much to List other way piss off

Well done you have just ruined that window ...... that is not how you repair leaded glass .... anyone watching don't do this ! I'm am truely shocked that you peeled the lead off .
@1800fastglass
@1800fastglass 7 лет назад
Yes, I did peel the lead and fix the window while it was in place. I will tell anyone the correct way to fix that window is to completely remove it, board up the window, and let a stain glass specialist glass shop do the repair. That said, it would cost at least four times the price, there is a risk of wood damages and you also need to paint. So, your looking at more time and more money verses a non-noticeable missing piece of lead. But thanks for bringing up your concerns, Ned.
@WebbyWunda
@WebbyWunda 7 лет назад
Please viewers, do NOT do this at home, or anywhere else for that matter. Firstly -- Cutting glass while it's resting on your thighs is totally fu... foolhardy at best. Next -- "A little bit of glue and that's it!" What? No, you shouldn't glue it. Then -- What about replacing the lead came you ripped out? At least finish it off with some stick on lead if you can't/aren't allowed to do the job right. If you care about your company's reputation, or your own, you really should change your title to say "How I did a leaded window 'repair' on the cheap..." and edit your blurb to mention that this is NOT the right way, but the customer was too cheap to get it repaired properly and didn't care how it looked or functioned afterwards. As it stands this video just makes you and your company look really bad. Oh, and a minor point -- Unfortunately the added (unnecessary) filler music is much LOUDER than your recorded voice, not that it really matters.

@nathandavis3002
@nathandavis3002 4 года назад
Wow. This is pretty shocking. Glue? Frankly embarrassing. Even without removing the panel and sending it to a glass expert, so it can be properly repaired, there are FAR better and just as cheap diy repairs. This is the sort of thing id MAYBE expect to see from a miserly diy homeowner trying to save a penny by doing it himself, NOT from a so called "professional" being PAID to do this "work"
@Iwillobay
@Iwillobay 4 года назад
Brother I know this is not the correct way to fix this window I know you can take this window out completely start from the edge and take and disassemble the whole glass all the way over to fix it correctly but how much would you charge for that couple hundred bucks to take it out maybe put a piece of wood in there temporarily find some jack hole stain glass repair guy like yourself to fix it then I could bring it back and put it in how about I just charge him 600 bucks and do this and everybody’s happy and took me 25 minutes so lots of people have me do this for them rather than paying 1800 bucks to do it correctly
@nathandavis3002
@nathandavis3002 4 года назад
No, I am saying, as someone who works with stained glass, you could just as quickly fix it in situ the PROPER way. I myself would never bother taking it out and disassembling the whole thing, the rest of the window is fine. Personally, what I would do, is pry up the lead lips around the broken piece. Lead is very malleable, you could do this easily, I have done it on windows over a hundred years old which had far more fragile and brittle leading than the window seen here. You prep it away so that you can slide the broken piece out and slide the new piece in, after which you simply smooth the raised lead back out over the glass and apply cement to seal the channel, as would have been done originally.
@nathandavis3002
@nathandavis3002 4 года назад
Even here on RU-vid you can find people doing it that way. I would NEVER charge anybody ANYTHING for the work seen here, neither would I dare call myself a professional, and I CERTAINLY would not maintain such an unprofessional online presence...
@nathandavis3002
@nathandavis3002 4 года назад
Ive done it the correct way before, its SIMPLE, its just as quick as you have done here. Except the result is one which will stand the tests of time, and will look a thousand times less sloppy. Undetectable in fact as the original leading is left intact.
