77 days sober and haven't had any cravings yet but I'm not going to put myself in a situation where I will be tempted to drink. 150 days clean now..... 420 days and cruising!
Hope you are still clean, I quit 1.1.19 it gets easier. I just completely stopped thinking about alcohol, sobriety or counting days or even talking about it. AA can help others but for me constantly thinking, discussing and counting days made me crave alcohol. Luckily, no one close to me drinks either. Before I knew it, a year was over with barely any thought of alcohol. Good luck😊
@@Nocomment1 I'm at that stage now... I don't go to A.A because I don't crave for alcohol and I barely think about it. A.A would call that a dry drunk, which is not the case with me. I just don't drink alcohol anymore, not wanting to and barely think about it...
Awesome job!!!! Keep up the good work! I'm 3 and 1/2 years clean and I don't go to AA either. I just work on things through counseling and that works well for me!
On Jan/16/22 I was admitted to the hospital in extremely bad shape. My body had been reduced to a skeleton and was told I had no chance of survival. Had esophageal varices which were actively bleeding. I had a total of 19 liters of ascite fluid drained in two days. Two blood infusions, and to top it I had hepatic encephalopathy. After spending several weeks in ICU I was sent home to "spend time with my family" as I was at best looking at 30 days to live. Long story short I changed my entire life. I had refractory ascites which required paracentesis once a week, I was weak and could not walk more than half a block. Currently my ascites has not been an issue since April 10th 2022, my MELD score has dramatically improved. I walk 4 miles a day, I'm back to camping, back packing and feel better than I have in years. In short. You can do this, do not let medical mortality stats drag you down. It's time to drill down and fight for your life. You got this. And thank you Dr. When I was at my lowest I watched all of your videos and it paid off.
@@MariaGonzalez-vx2zb obviously step 1 zero alcohol, lower the sodium intake to less than 2000 mg a day. I was on Furosemide, spironolacton and magnesium. Plus multivitamins. Do not miss any Doctor appointments. If you don't already, get a referral for a gastroenterologist. Avoid anything with high fructose or corn syrup, eliminate sugary snacks and drinks. This will be a challenge as your family member may be experiencing sugar cravings which is common with liver failure. Increase vitamin K. I can go on and on. This is going to be a fight for survival and it won't be easy.
Here's some of the things you can take to help repair liver damage....1. STOP drinking alcohol, 2. milk thistle, 3. NAC, 4.choline, 5. eat broccoli, cauliflower and also broccoli sprouts( very powerful ), 6. cut out carbs and do intermittent fasting ( 1 meal a day ) as much as possible, 7.lose weight if you need to, 8. drink lemon water, green tea, coffee daily, 9. exercise daily, 10. Cut out sugar and sweets. I guarantee this will improve your liver ( and overall health ) very quickly and more so over time.....I know Dr. Berg would agree. My Christmas gift to you 🎅Merry Christmas !
Took my last drink 14 months ago. Watching a lot of motivational videos about the bad effects of alcohol, and hearing other peoples story kept my motivation high. Now I'm just cruising. Still have stomach problems, but getting better.
THANK YOU SIR YOU HAVE SAVED MY LIFE! I'VE HAD ELEVATED LIVER ENZYMES FOR A WHILE AND DID NOT UNDERSTAND HOW BECAUSE I'M WAS NOT DRINKER. I'M AN OLD FOOTBALL PLAYER WHO HAS BEEN OVERWEIGHT FOR YEARS! I WAS HEADED BLINDLY FOR DESTRUCTION UNTIL I FOUND YOUR VIDEO, BUT I GOT SCARED A MONTH AGO BECAUSE I FOUND THROUGH YOUR INFORMATION THAT I JUST DEVELOPED ASCITES NOW I'M KETO, INTERMITTENT FASTING AND D3,K VITAMIN, CRUCIFEROUS OVERDRIVE, AND THE WEIGHT LOSS HAS BEGUN! THANK YOU DR. BERG, 😊
You could be a Dr. for a few people, but what you do for so many people with your videos is life changing! Thanks for sharing you kindness and knowledge. We all appreciate your time and efforts!
That's the most important thing right there stay off of the booze forever and you will be fine. The liver repairs itself but it takes a very long time.
@@Nelson_Nicholson 03/01/2019 was my last drink, craft beer. The Dr. said I had higher than normal liver enzymes (I scored 59 and it should be 55 or below) so I got myself a routine @ the gym, stopped eating fried foods & cut all booze. 1 month turned into 6 months, turned into 1 year etc. I was a few beers kinda guy on the weekends etc… I stopped altogether because of my Dr & what Dr. Berg has taught me. I feel better, I don’t miss it at all & the only fatty thing I have now, is my wallet.
I spoke to my butcher the other day that told me about his friend who was going in to surgery to have part of his liver removed, he started taking Milk Thistle and now no long needs to go in for surgery, i myself always resort to it as i have liver issues to, it could be down to my Sleep Apnea but time will tell if i end up getting the help i need for that, it really does work!
I've heard coffee, grapefruit, and cashews are also good for the liver. I'm not sure how coffee is beneficial but if you are a drinker and drink coffee, your chances go down for cirrhosis. And goes down with the more you drink. The best thing to do is cut out all alcohol. I'm 2 and a half years alcohol free and has been a total game changer, so many great benefits from removing alcohol.
I’m 28 and I vowed to quit alcohol. I definitely abused the substance for years. I’ve been better at making choices in the last couple years but heading into 29 I think I’m good to quit for good and try to repair any damage I may have caused. Milk Thistle it is! Even if the damage on my liver is not severe it does not hurt to increase liver functions or increase healing. Thank you for this.
I have cirrhosis was giving 3 months to live everything I was sober for 1 whole years everything was good then idk know I took a drink and now I’m fucken terried because I’ve let everyone who loves me down even myself 💔major set back but hopefully god forgives me
@@EKL1900God did forgive you cause you mesnt that from the heart and know you did wrong. Dont touch another drop again, its not worth it! I wish you the best of luck and sending you strength
98% of ppl that have liver probs and cirrhosis NEVER had a drink. Liver problems are basically nutrient deficiencies. Look up for dr wallach on the subject and HAVE A DRINK. (Moderate). :)
I don't know who want to hear this. I got my liver damaged severely a year ago, after i watched this and some of Dr. Berg's videos regarding liver, i started doing below and now I'm (and my liver) totally 💯 healthy. 1. 16 HR fast - 8 HR eating window 2. First thing in morning empty stomach lemon water with very little ACV 3. After 30 min a coffee 4. After 30 min a breakfast with half raw onion and crushed 3-4 garlic cloves with small piece of ginger (raw) 5. Use olive oil for anything 6. 30 min exercise everyday 7. Sun exposure 10-20 min everyday 8. 2 meals including BF 9. Between means used to eat grapefruit and Indian gooseberry Eat healthy good luck
i drink about 7 - 11 12 oz malt liquor 8 percent.. been doin that for about 2 years. and 2 years before that it was 6 pack of malt. then for about 4 or 5 years it was 6 pack of regular 5 percent beers... for 4 days know ive been having a mild pain in liver area.. might have to make doctors appointment. or go to hospital.. its not too bad.. i walk 40 minutes everyday (to liquor store) and im having a beer right now on an empty stomach... is this liver pain serious... i only drink beers . no hard alcohol.. and usualy i drink slow. 1 beer 1 hour
Thank you! I am a 40yr old skinny vegan who drinks a glass of wine every night. I think i have a fatty liver from low protein and the wine. I am now taking milk thistle and I am going to break this wine at night habit once and for all. Love your videos!!
From what I've seen there's a lot of research that shows a glass of wine a day is not harmful, but usually beneficial. Every body is different though, but you still shouldn't assume that you have fatty liver without solid evidence of it.
Highly unlikely you have any damage. You look young and healthy. Most people that have severe liver damage have drank hard for years. As in a 5th of vodka almost daily for 10 years. If you are vegan, makes it more unlikely from everything I have read. I beleive I have severe damage and it is effecting everything in my life. I am like a skinny fat guy
Im 1 month sober after drinking everyday for 13 plus years, my gf took me to the hospital where we both found out i have high bilirubin levels and that i should stop drinking or else ill get cirrhosis of the liver, i do feel better now still get the urges here and there to have a drink but i fight them im trying to be cautious of what i consume and i still get some lower backpain and in my side which is damaged liver i hope we all stay strong and beat this battle 😊
@@nandobando408 Try 30 years can't believe I am still alive but I have always taken milk thistle and brewers yeast tablets and vitamins. Good luck dear.
I have been taking milk thistle supplements, and I am really sure they help a lot. I certainly feel the benefit, I agree with the good dr. Highly recommend.
@@Chill_beats.mp4 Sure they are just called MILK THISTLE TABLETS. They are superdrug s own brand. That is a UK pharmacy company. You can get a standard and something more like a max strength pack. The stronger is better, but both are good for liver repair in my view. Hope this helps, good luck with it. Peace
Dear Doctor greetings from Armenia! First of all thanks for your great videos! It would be great if you could make a video with some detailed information regarding the use of supplements, herbs, vitamins, minerals for those who are on keto or fasting. Thanks again! ✌🏼
Dear Dr Burg I have been diagnosed with liver disease and have multiple large liver cysts. Can you please help! Is there anything that I can do to destroy them and get my liver back to normal.
Hi. Dr. Berg I'm coming up on four years clean from alcohol I used to take milk thistle even when I was actively drinking I think that's the reason I'm still alive now I'm eating a lot of Brussel sprouts cauliflower I really appreciate the videos they really have been helping me thank you say hello to Karen
Dr berg there is a small suggestion. please let us know the milli grams or quanity per day of these things as well. such as milk thistle and glutathione. For all future videos if you could tell us thats really helpful.
Low vit d also. It is actually linked to liver function and production of bile. Cant stress this enough. I highly recommend watching all his vit d videos.
it's funny you did a video on this. I was just looking up ways to detox my liver after vacation and lots of drinking. n acytel cystine was also on my list with milk thistle. thanks Doc.
Just a word to the wise.... I bought milk thistle then found out that it blocks the thyroid hormone necessary for a working thyroid. But I am taking dandelion root and N- Acetylcysteine in hopes they will help.
Hey! Have you heard of the company Biocean out of Canada? They make an amazing milk thistle juice + burdock root juice called Marisol Hepa. I highly recommend it. It works amazingly!
thought i was about to die i had high fever my side hurt like crazy i was seeing things a lot of brain fog. but after changing my diet and using whole herbs like milk thistle and a few others i got rid of all my gallstones and my side completely stopped hurting. now i wont change my eaiting habits for anything in the world. thanks for the advice
other things you can try for your liver: White vinegar / acetic acid, Physalis Peruviana (Peruvian groundcherry), solanum nigrum (Black Nightshade), turmeric/curcurmin, melatonin.
Thank you so much for this well informed video, I've had hepatitis twice and I'm convinced that I am now again suffering from some liver malady, as your symptoms suggest, the cold hands and feet, nails etc. Which is the best Milk Thistle to get? Thank you again
Greetings! Can you please ask Dr. Berg to do a video that he may feel is taboo? Specifically, how to help a present-day alcoholic with supplementation due to various deficiencies? Alcoholics in their 40s and up need their own supplement and dietary regimens. I have read a couple of routines, but I would really appreciate it if a regimen could be proposed for experimentation by Dr. Berg.
Coffee enemas are great for those with worsening liver cases such as cirrhosis or ESLD... if you want a quick resolution. Worth considering or looking into.
Tylenol blocks glutathione production which probably is why the medications would be linked to fatty liver? I didnt think something like ibuprophen blocked glutathione production but i do know how important glutathione is.
I have not checked the actual state of it, but what I want to is to get rid of the excess estrogen that has messed my period this whole year, besides the need, of course, for the liver to get rid of the fat properly. For what I have heard from him and others, all my problems seem to stem from the liver.
No, I don't like the taste of alcohol and I'm longer having sugar. For the time being, I'm making some tea every night out of crushed milk thistle seeds. The lady that sells me the seeds told me I should have them for 3 months and then rest for a month. That's what I'm doing now and it seems to be working, I just wanted to know what the doc thinks.
My problem is more hormonal and I'm waiting to check on my hormones this month. Since February I have had abnormally long periods (between 13 and 22 days) and bleeding in between (so the whole last month for example). So I started to have the tea every night and no sign of a period or spotting for two weeks now, I'm so happy, that's a great improvement for me (nothing had worked until now). Though, I have no lab work results yet, I would totally recommend milk thistle to help the liver in whatever form.
DeadliestTrap EverLaid My cycle has been really abnormal as well. I just had an IUD put in so I will try this method and see if this works because even with the IUD it seems like its trying to go back to being heavy.
+Lifechanger Yes, it is great. Finally, my periods have come back to normal since the initial post that I made. My last two periods have only lasted 5/6 days and no spotting in between. The lab work for hormones came back normal, except that testosterone was a little high for me, so I added flaxseed to the mix to lower that. I hope it helps you as well!
Dr Berg what is best time to take it ? before meals or after meals night time or morning ? I have milk thistle tea from Twinnings brand but it disturbs my digestion. Please reply.
I've been using milk thistle for many years with good results. But it is only during the last year or so that I have learned how to prevent continuing damaging my liver. I LOVED my carbs...esp. bread....croissants, sour dough, egg bread....all I do now is look as I pass by.
@@عشقالربيع-خ5ن Did you ever find the answer to your question? We just found out my beloved brother has serious liver issues. Any help would be much appreciated. 🙏

Mine got damaged 15 years ago still surviving although I can say it is the most worst thing to live with, I have seen neighbours; friends and two family members die of liver disease and me am still surviving I thank God for that, I have seen a gland child ❤️, what else can I ask for. I wish I have never tasted beer but my aunt and my sister had never tasted it and are dead cause of cirrhosis 😢

Hello Dr, I love to listen to your knowledgeable videos of the Organs of the body. I am trying to lower my Insulin levels. I stopped eating sugar for a almost 2 years, I lost weight, I exercised more, I increased my vegetable intake, I am trying to buy Grass fed meats and butter. I used unbleached flours. I cut down on fruits. I monitored my blood sugar and I even stopped using all seed oils, using mainly Extra Virgin Olive Oil Cold Pressed. But it is taking so long to get my Blood sugar back to normal. I am even intermittently fasting. Do I have to fast entirely for 2 days to see faster results?
Look up the "Beef, Bacon, Butter & Egg Challenge." you may be so out of balance that a straight carnivore diet is what you need for a few months. Good Luck!
Dear Dr Berg, would you like to explain how to reverse varicose veins due to years of long sitting every day? I am 24 and varicose veins are popping out on my right lower leg. I don't know what to do ;/ Thanks for reading!
Hey im a young male with vericose veins too. Ive read that bioflavenoids can help and have been taking those along with elevating my legs at night while sleeping. Havent noticed results yet but let me know if you find something that works! Good luck!
I had a "food sensitivity" test done and Thistle as well as Dandelion came up red flagged as a no-no. What can I do to repair the liver besides milk thistle?
You can try 1. NAC, 2. CHOLINE, 3. TUDCA, 4. RAW GARLIC, 5. LEMON WATER, 6. ORGANIC APPLE CIDER VINEGAR......these can all be bought online, btw. These helped lower my liver enzymes quickly.....research them yourself, just google them. Your welcome. Have a healthy day !
Choline Bitartrate Inositol supplement is used by bodybuilders to prevent fatty liver during steroid cycles. I'm sure it would also work against the other causes as well. -Cheers
Thanks for the video, would be great if you added how to make milk thistle, do we just find any milk thistle powder and make in tea, or do we consume it all, or do we find an extract that primarily has silymarin in it?
I recommend growing it and harvesting your own seed if you have the yard for it. You can also buy the dried seed in bulk from Mountain Rose Herbs. It's very inexpensive! I grind it in a coffee grinder and add it to smoothies
I thank you for this video Dr. Berg. I watch all your videos and especially videos about the liver. I had fatty liver and jaundice at one point when I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
