I love repairing stuff on older iMacs. I don't know what it is about it. Ever since doing my first screen replacement in 2011 on an 09' iMac, I've gone on to do more. Thanks for doing a step by step tutorial on replacing power for the 2011 iMac 27" (A1312).
Just replaced the Power Supply in my 27" iMac(Mid 2011), using your expert and down-to-earth guidance and a replacement unit from ebay. The whole evolution took just over an hour, and it's working beautifully (so far!). Thanks very much.
@@IsabelSanMartinMeow I threw away the old Power Supply that I removed, so I cannot refer to that. The replacement unit I fitted was a used one I bought for £14.99 on ebay - andnow (more than 6 months later) its specifications are no longer available visible on ebay. However, I'm pretty sure it was a 1312 that I fitted - and it is still working fine. Sorry I can't be absolutely certain.
Lolol this vid couldn’t have come at a better time! I have this same iMac and it died back in 2017 (I’m guessing the psu died because it wouldn’t turn on again) and I’m planning on fixing it soon, your video production was definitely spot on. Thank you good sir!
Just repaired my wife's. If you dont have suction cups just use your nails to pull off the screen although wifey bought some. Also there is a clip part you need to depress on the bottom of that big power supply cable. Only took me 15 minutes and a quarter of a beer. Thanks for the assist!
What ere the symptoms of a bad power supply. . Mine has a black screen and three out of the four diagnostic leds light up ? It chimes ,fan runs ,CD drive spins etc. But my screen is totally black all the time. Any ideas ? Anything?
It's a common enough issue in these iMacs that looking up the symptoms came back nearly universally as a power supply issue. Before replacing anything I'd get into it, clean it out and re-paste your CPU and see if that does the trick... sometimes reboots like this can be a heat thing.... but most commonly it's a power supply issue.
