Champion has a video on how to replace a starter cord. You would have found it interesting. I was wondering how you tightened up that cord, you should have shown us.
Thanks! The achilles heel on these generators is the recoil mechanism. It is a poor design and hard to get to when it breaks. If you own one you will be doing this at some point. If it is not the rope that fails then it is the recoil mechanism itself. In my case; the latter. In the video you see on the recoil an outer ring holding the rope and an inner ring housing for the spring. A number of thin plastic convoluted plastic bands/straps connect the two and this failed on mine. You cannot just buy the pulley but need to replace the entire assembly which is not a huge deal. Champion knows this problem exists, yet when I called they had no inventory. I have had this issue with other parts as well. My choice is to wait for perhaps months for Champion to re-inventory the parts or order what looks the same on Amzn and take a flyer. That is what I did. When the generator runs it runs well but on propane it is not always easy to start. Pull the cord straight out so it doesn't get chafed and when priming pull slowly so it does not kick back and break the rubber straps connnecting the outer pulley to the spring mechanism. My advice is, if you buy this generator, save some future brain damage and order one or two spare recoil mechanisms so it isn't sitting collecting dust while you wait for partsb that Champion should have stocked in inventory. Champion would be advised to redesign the generator covers so the recoil mechanism is accessible without taking the generator completely apart. Shoulda, woulda, coulda bought a Honda.
Nice! I own the same generator and hope I never have to bother doing this. haha .... I have the worst luck changing out these pull cords on lawn mowers too. I never seem to get it right the first time. Have a happy day day man! :D
