Thanks for this. I started not to watch the whole thing, because like many....I felt it was a little basic, but there's more to it than I thought. Good info about the extra turn on the spring and how to check it.

I have a very very old Homelight chainsaw that belonged to my grandfather. I would say it's probably from early 60's. It's so rare I could only find one place in Poland that sold the spark plug for it. So I bought two plugs, and paid for the overseas shipping. It runs but have trouble with pull start. This video was super helpful. I don't have an Instagram account but will get one now, and follow MPI Built. Thanks for sharing 👍

Damn, it is like watching me change a rope, even the same knots, and same use of lighter to melt the ends! And no, it isn't a true figure eight knot, this one is way better - I have used this knot for 35 years, I even began using it before Stihl started using it. About using somebody elses chainsaw, it like using somebody's toothbrush, you can do it, but you don't like it! ^_^

Yes, we use it all the time - this knot however isn't a true figure eight, but it is way better for this job. Found it on the internet, it is a double overhand stopper knot - now I know that, for the next few minutes.

Just replaced the pull cord on my ms290 before finding this video. I bought it used and the pull cord housing had enough built up gunk that the cord was loose and got frayed on the flywheel. I ended up jury rigging it with paracord and pulled everything apart to clean it and oil it. It took my three tries to get the cord tension set right.

That skiptooth chain is one of the reasons the saw is so slow. That engine is plenty strong to pull a full comp chain at that length.

Super video! You are a great teacher. Can you please explain, because I might have missed it, why did the knotted pull through the handle. Thank you again! 😊 One extra thought, I have an old 1984 Jonsered 520SP. How do you determine the diameter of the pull cord? It looks like nylon is the deal now. Mine was a cotton rope. The dealer installed nylon with a new Stihl pull handle. I never thought to measure the thickness of the old cord. That said, maybe there is a difference between the nylon size of cord you would use versus the cotton old-school pull cord that was in there. By the way my handle pulled off of the knotted cotton cord, maybe for the same reason your friends did? There was a washer beneath the old cotton knotted cord. Thank again! 😊

The knot is a figure 8 knot. The fisherman’s is sorta similar but its more like a hitch rather than a knot. The knot you tied, though, is definitely a figure 8

Awesome vid, have always felt the same IE lube it then dry it, just like bicycle chains you need no dry-metal but cannot have 'loose oil/grease' or it becomes a grit sponge in short order and begins grinding as it lubricates :P MPI seems very very sharp am gonna have to go check him out now thanks!!

It’s really hilarious that as soon as I read that Third Generation of machinery… I was saying what the heck does that mean…thinking… what are they trying to say here???? It’s really funny that keen minded folks are reading that tag and having my exact response. I don’t necessarily think that he was not necessary wanting to run it because it was a blue China saw… he was running a ported 661!!! He had a 90cc blaster to smack down his sticks for the day… not really stopping to laugh and have fun and play around with the blue saw and still get the work done if it’s an additional so what attitude… seemed like a blaster dude… knock it out as fast as you can and get gone dude type… he wouldn’t have run a real 460 that wasn’t ported either… why dick with a stocker 70cc when your hotrod 90 CC’s sitting right there and it’s running great… I think it was more about his being familiar with his own saw …more so then hating on the blue beast!!! You need 32:1 mix and to re-tune it after that run!!! You don’t have the super high quality nikasil cylinder lining in your Chinese engine that topend will last another 10-15 years if it’s running on 32:1… on 50:1 you’d burn it out in a couple three/four years running the way you were… I use the Chinese saw’s for residential tree removal and I freakin love the cheaper saw’s… I don’t understand not wanting to spend as little money as possible to complete the task… it’s reduced overhead!!! Their cheap parts will put them OEM saw’s that are broken back into the game too!!!
