Hey yo! Thanks for the video, it is extremely helpful! Amazing, you gave me the confidence to attempt to fix my keyboard. I haven't used my keyboard in over A YEAR and the batteries were really corroded, I couldn't remove the battery cap either. But after I followed your instructions, I managed to fix my keyboard and save myself $150 on a new "magical keypad". Here are some things that I think would be helpful to note if all you people are facing the same problems: 1)A STUCK BATTERY CAP (due to battery corrosion) -I sprayed WD40 on the cap as well (quite abit) and let it sit for awhile before I try unscrewing. 2)A STUCK SCREW (after opening the middle compartment cap) -spray WD40 as well, it should work! 3)STUCK BATTERIES -my batteries absolutely did not roll out like in the video. They were very, VERY stuck. Don't fret, take WD40 and sprayyyyyyy. Then, take something long, thin and sturdy (I used a screw driver) and a hammer and hammer the battery out. It took me awhile and quite a lot of strength but eventually, my batteries came out! 4)REMOVING THE CORROSION WITHIN THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT -well, I followed Google and used a toothbrush dipped in vinegar. I couldn't fully remove the corrosion within, but it did kind of help. My keyboard could still work although there's corrosion left. 5)KEYBOARD STILL WON'T WORK? -ahhhh, when I completed everything you've said but my keyboard still couldn't work, I got pretty disappointed but I realised CHECK and ensure that all your CONTACT POINTS are CLEAN. (I forgot about the battery cap that had the corrosion crystals so I cleaned it and it worked) Thanks friend for helping! I'm really extremely thankful! (Also another thing to note, I'm just a ordinary, super noob non-techy girl and I managed to do this so I'm pretty proud of myself! Even though I was afraid that I might ruin stuff within like the wiring)

You are an absolute legend mate! I was just about to jump into the car and go to the apple store and fork over $140 for a new keypad, then I thought bugger it, I'll check out a video on how to possibly repair it first. I followed the exact steps you said and my wallet is $140 better off! If you ever make your way down to Melbourne Australia, look me up and lunch is on me!!!!! Many thanks :-)

Thank you for your thoroughness. I really appreciated that you so elaborately described your methodologies that didn't work to open the compartment, because I think everyone who undertakes this task eventually gets to the impact driver or ceremonial dagger. The painters' tape tip is great advice for those without magnetic bowl, so listen up people! My only note would be to retitle your video, something like "HOW TO ACCESS APPLE WIRELESS KEYBOARD COMPARTMENT WHEN CAP IS CORRODED," so others can find your video easier. BIG THANKS!

Martin, check to make sure the ribbon is seated all the way into its slot and making a good solid connection across the entire ribbon. Use a small plastic flat head screw driver or what ever you have to push down on the ribbon cable to seat solidly in place. If it is not uniformly straight all the way across you sometimes will get keys acting up on you.

Way cool video....Doc! Found an IMAC in a dumpster with corroded batteries in the keyboard. Couldnt get the end cap off either so I turned the end cap side up and dripped some light oil onto the cap every night and tapped it a little for 3 days. If you wait a couple days for the oil to soak in it will usually come out. Soaking and time is the key.

Cant figure why you would use a screwdriver when those slots are always designed for coins. They're rounded to take coins because coins are the most at hand tool. Mine is the other 3 call keyboard though Your 2 cell board looks easier to remove the bluetooth.

@Leyland---Doc...just figured out something on your video. Now that i see how to remove the maintenence cover and get the batteries out through it you could remove the batteries, shoot some WD-40 into the end, then let it stand up and let the juice soak into the end cap. Tap it every few days like I did, then try it aghain later with a nickel and it will come out.

@docs...hey this reply thing works pretty well. I'm still figuring out YouTub e though. Another solution might be to drill a hole in the bottom of the battery tube to inject some oil into it. Then tip the keynboard up so the oil runs down to the battery camp and soaks in.

Thanks for this. I ended up throwing mine away. The battery was so stuck I couldn't get it out even drilling a hole in the door and hitting it with a screw driver. I really don't get the point of wireless keyboards and mice. 90% of the time they are just a pain and I end up using an old wired Dell one from years back!

Thank you. The screw was screwed in so tight I couldn't undo it but managed to use a skewer which I had to bend to force it out. (took me a while but I got there).

Thanks for the video. It really is helpful. I have still have a problem though. I have removed the circuit board but the batteries are still not coming out. Your first one came out fairly easily, whereas for me, I have been hammering the keyboard and its still not coming out!! I guess its on to a new keyboard for me.
@omcdocs5114
@omcdocs5114 8 лет назад
+yoho7788 Sorry to hear that they are still stuck. You might try running a stiff coat hanger down the length of the tube to jar the battery loose a bit. Then apply the force to dislodge them. Sometimes the batteries swell so much the pressure may be to great to remove them. Shine a light down the tube and see what you are dealing with. I personally would try running something long and firm down to the battery and try to spin or wiggle it enough to bang it out.

excellent - easy to follow... unfortunately my batteries are fused n there - i got the first one out but the second one when i jammed a screwdriver up there it pulled the middle of the battery out! the casing is still up there and no way to get it out... but thanks for the guidance!

Thanks for the video. I followed the steps of the video but the keyboard does not turn on. I cleaned the remains of the batteries but I do not know why it does not work. I put aluminum foil on the tip of the pile in case it did not make contact but nothing ... can you think what can happen? Thank you very much! regards

if you have not resolved this already you might try to make sure that you hear that little click I point out in the video that indicates the batteries are seated in tight with a good connection. It is entirely possible that you have a lot of dried up battery juice still down in there. It that is the case you will need to try to reach it with a small wire bottle cleaner or the like. You should feel and hear that click with the batteries are seated correctly. Best of luck.

If the batteries wont come out this way, do you have a suggestion.
@omcdocs5114
@omcdocs5114 8 лет назад
+Sandra Kanagasabai I have found always found that once the tube holding the electronics is removed tapping the keyboard on its side will release the batteries. It is a matter of force I believe that is the question. Some batteries are stubborn and need a little more force to break them loose. You can also try straightening out a coat hanger to run down the tube to jar the old battery a little bit before applying the force on the side of the keyboard to dislodge it. Best of luck.

Not sure exactly what you are describing but if the plastic cover is missing and you want to keep dust out you can always use a little painters tape or the like to cover the gap.

I picked it up last night and was able to take out the electronics and the first battery. Just can't get the second battery out. I think its rusted in there or something. :( Any suggestions? Hitting it against my leg def isn't working.
@omcdocs5114

Try setting the board on its side with a towel or small pad under it. Make sure the ribbon is still removed, place a protective layer of wood or coin over the key board end facing up and use a small hammer. You can hit it with a good force. Use a heavier hit than on your knee. I feel like if you are going to throw it away anyway because you cannot jar it loose then why not hit it hard enough to see if it will break free. I had one corroded bad up in there and I was able to knock it back enough to use the knee trick the rest of the way out. I then spend a good bit of time trying to clean down the tube after that to make good contact with new batteries. It is not an easy task but then again you are trying to save $60-80 bucks. Best of luck.

so get this...i called Duracell and told them what happened. They said they will send me a prepaid label and i can mail the keyboard to them. They will take a look and then determine "compensation". I'll keep you updated on what happens. Thanks!

This is generally cause day the ribbon not being pushed in all the way so some of the key are not making connection through he ribbon. Try reseating the ribbon and make sure it is push in all the way.

I got the first battery out, but the 2nd one close to the end still stuck inside :( I'm letting the WD40 juice sit in there for a day in hope it will make it loosen up.
@omcdocs5114
@omcdocs5114 8 лет назад
+Joanne Liu were you able to get the stubborn one to break loose? If not try that knee trick I showed in the video. Get a block of wood if that doesn't do it and tap on it a bit harder. The keyboard is very well built and can stand a good hit on the side or two. Make sure that the WD40 has all been removed and evaporated out of the tube before attempting it though. Otherwise it will stick on you. Best of luck.
@joanne4449
@joanne4449 8 лет назад
+Dale Smith Mine is a lot worse than yours because I left the batteries in there way too long. The knee trick definitely won't work, I was using wood stick pounded at end, also used a knife try to loosen up the battery inside, but it's stubbornly sticked. I used WD40 juice to soak it, it didn't help either. I might just as well use the electoral drill to make a hole in the center from the end; that's what I am going to try. Thank you!

Someone help me. My keyboard stopped working. I tried changing the batteries still doesn't work not even new batteries. I don't know it's either the keyboard keyboard or it's just the batteries. 😩
@omcdocs5114
@omcdocs5114 7 лет назад
Sorry late response, but once you figure out if the batteries are good make sure they are inserted in the correct way (both should be facing same way). Note that "click" in the video that tells you the batteries are seated correctly inside the tube. It is possible to put the batteries in and still they are not pushed down far enough to make a good connection with the terminal inside the tube. Use your index finger and push them down into the tube until you feel or hear the click.

This is the last thing I'd want to do! If you have to do all of this to remove a simple set of AA batteries, before breaking something else, I'd go to an Apple dealer and get a new screw for the side and next time, be gentler with it!
@omcdocs5114
@omcdocs5114 8 лет назад
+OPUS390 Yep, I get it. It is easy for many to agree with you. It is a last ditch effort to save an otherwise perfectly good wireless keyboard. In many cases just getting another screw cap for the end is not a solution. The acid in the batteries sometime fuse the cap and tube together and you cannot remove it so a new part by itself will not help. If you can get the cap off then your problem is solve. I agree with you on being more "gentler" when ever possible with electronics of any kind. I will say if you go to an Apple dealer for any reason you might want to just buy a new keyboard. They are cheap enough. The fix I recorded was to aid others looking for an alternative to try to resolve the issue on its own.
