Great video! Just been handed my nephew's laptop to check out (dead screen) and I wanted to get into the motherboard safely to check the connections. Thanks for the video the battery replacement I can see being done but normally if the motherboard needs replacing it is cheaper to buy a new laptop.

With most higher model computers, yes. Its cheaper to purchase a new one. But with many older / basic computers, motherboards are much cheaper than one may think.

How did you get the screws on the motherboard to come off so easily? I can't even take off the cooling assembly because the screws are in super tight and I'm afraid of damaging the teeth on the screws. Good video btw

Can u pls help me, my fans rnt running, I have the same lap. My temps r reaching 75 at idle use. Do I just remove the back cover and clean the fan? Or do I have to remove the fan from the cpu and seperately clean?

@@antoninobalinado6192 If its the exact same model as used in the video, with the exact same sized and shape Easy Access Panel, then after removing the screws, just pry it up. There will be nothing still attaching it as seen here.

I have the A315-51-31GK. It shipped with a 1 Tb HDD and 4 gigs of ram. It was impossibly slow. I upgraded the ram to 12gigs and replaced the HHD with an SSD. Now it runs much faster and smoother.

The nut with the small screw in the top is an M.2 module retaining nut and screw, as you can see the M.2 interface up from the screw on the motherbaord.

Hey, can you tell me that unused ssd slot. Is it m.2 sata or nvme? i search it online and it only support m.2 sata which is m+b Key. And that slot only have 1 gap.

I dont understand your issue. This is a tutorial on replacing a battery. Your computer works without a battery? Yes, most laptops will work with only the power adapter plugged in :)

Hi, thanks for the video. I have an Acer Aspire A315 - 21. Do you know if the laptop will run without the battery in it like some do? Having trouble with the battery dying and I am just trying to figure out if it is a battery or charger issue.

Yes, the laptop will operate well without the battery in as long as the charger is plugged in. However, for some heavy uses like big gaming, the computer will need a healthy battery if its drawing more power at some times then the charger is supplying.

Hi there, I have a acre aspire A315-31 and It won’t go past the boot screen and I’ve tried every other boot option that I’ve been able to find and still nothing. It powers up then shows the acer boot screen then goes back and stays black. I can get the F2 boot screen and tried changing boot up processes and I’m stuck. Any info you might be able to provide me with would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Eric.

Awesome video! Im actually trying to reset the bios on this model... cant find the CRLP1 jumpers on the motherboard - dont suppose you would know?

To reset the BIOS, you could just remove the CMOS Battery on the bottom right of the MB for a 15mins. That should reset BIOS.

I would make sure to purchase an OEM Acer battery. In my experience, only 50% of generic ones work.

Btw, another question how can I maximize the use of my laptop battery. I'm an avid gamer of fps games, so what are your suggestions in using my battery while playing?

@@raymondgamboa6420 Definitely dont have your power adapter always plugged in. Thats a sure way to cut the battery life in half. The battery needs to drain out and recharge regularly to stay healthy. Also, dont put the computer in sleep mode. Its a horrible feature. Perform a proper shutdown when your done using it :)

I have a Toshiba C55Dt-A5307, The power light is on and the on/off button light is on but the only thing that runs is the fan. It will not boot up, there is no start up sounds, I checked the power cable and the battery and both are good. I have removed the CMOS battery and waited 30 minutes put it back in but it still will not boot up. Is this my Mother Board or is there something I should check. Thank you for you assistnace and videos, they are very informative and easy to follow.

If the fan is running and the lights are on, we will assume for now that the computer is turning on but the screen isnt working. If this model comes with better options, then you may be able to find a used motherboard online with that upgraded processor in it. If not, then no, most likely you wont be able to upgrade that way

I have the same laptop series, I thought the part number of the battery that I bought was the same with the original battery but it wasn't. The online shop where I bought the replacement says it is compatible if it fits with the same laptop series even if the part number is different. My laptop works fine with the replacement one. Should I buy a replacement battery with the same part number or it is okay to use the battery I bought even if it has a different part number?

So, I stumbled upon your video trying to find out how to access my battery as my cat had knocked over my glass of water onto my laptop. It's been air-drying on an angle for around 72hours now. When I plugged it in, the battery light lit up orange and then went back out. I'm figuring it just needs to sit to regain a charge but I don't know. Not sure what steps I should take from here. Any advice or information would be great.

Different models will have different sized screws. It depends on model. Most electronic or hardware stores will have small enough drivers though if you dont have the correct one :)

I dont understand your question. Anything you unplug from the motherboard can always be plugged back in. It can always be reassembled. Are you looking for a disassembly guide for your computer? What brand and model computer do you have?

I’ve had this exact laptop for maybe 3 years now and it hasn’t given me any drama until recently, the keyboard will not type except for certain letters after some angry button mashing and the power button. I’ve tried uninstalling the device driver, turning my computer off and on again, running malware scans and now tried removing the battery so to see if that was the issue and nothings working 🥲 am I on the right track asking here?

Unfortunately those screw sizes are not listed anywhere :( Its just by sight or trial and error. Most computer shops build up a stock of them over time. We just grab one that looks right lol. You can sometimes purchase some as seen here in the Computer Component list: www.amazon.com/shop/pcmonkey. Or very often, you can take the computer into your local repair shop and they will just give you a screw for free :)

In many computers, you can buy 'larger' batteries that will hold a charge longer. However, most cheaper computers have very limited motherboard upgrade options. What is the full model number for your Aspire 3?

@@uwkcal Unfortunately I could not find a larger battery for that model :( You can try the manufacturers website and see if you have any better luck there. What CPU does your current motherboard have? You can search for options with a higher end one

I usually get most of my parts on ebay or amazon. Search for 'acer aspire 3 a315 battery' first. See what that gets you. Try to get a brand name Acer battery. They are better than the generic.

The power button / keyboard may be damaged. I would replace the keyboard.

It would depend on the model number of the battery. You would have to look them up. An easy resource is Ebay lol. Check out the batteries being sold for both models, their part numbers and ratings.

@@PC_Monkey i opened up the laptop to check the battery mAh and clean the heavily filthy fan, heat sink. The model no. Is AP16M5J which is a 4610 to 4660 MAH battery it says on the battery (4610 mAh /37Wh) and (4660mAh / 35.9 Wh)

Some models have the option of a larger batter. Most models do not offer that option. I would research what battery options the computer was sold with originally.

Thanks for clear explanation. I was surprised that my new Acer Aspire A314-21 didnt have a quickly removable battery. I bought 4GB extra rom which was easy to install. Where your hard drive is, on mine there is an empty space. I think my C drive is a solid state thing? Can I increase the memory of the C drive by putting in a hard drive ( one that wizzes round?) I have a 1TB Passport backup which is very useful, I am not very good with computers, so if you have time to reply, please no stuff I have to google to find out what they mean. thanks. Skizzy

Yes, it seems like your computer already has a solid state drive if you dont see a hard drive already plugged in :) You can definitely add storage by adding a hard drive :)

Can you locate the part number on the board? You can also search Ebay for your full model number and the word 'motherboard'. What is your full model number?

Oh and 1 quick question is it safe to ditch the quad core's and go for some different cores? thx!

Can i use this laptop, continuously connected to the power socket like a desktop, my laptop has no battery backup. Is there any problem using the laptop like this way?. Also can I use the laptop without battery, is there any performance loss or anything with this model?

That wont 'hurt' the computer at all. However, some functions that are power draining such as extreme gaming, or some kinds of updates, require a battery. The performance of those may suffer.

@@ananthupradeep1456 If the battery is just dead, it wont affect anything. It just wont be used. However, if the battery starts to leak or develop another issue, the computer may not run very well.

@@PC_Monkey I have removed the battery and it is working without battery. One thing I noticed is that when I shutdown the system a tick sound is heard around the charger plugin area, is this normal.

@@ananthupradeep1456 Depends on the computer. Hard to say without being able to examine the computer. It is designed to be run with a battery though. So normal with a missing part may not be normal with all components accounted for and working

@@PC_Monkey I tried the things in the video, operating with and without the battery. Note that I had to take the back off to remove the battery. No luck. And I don't think it's the other things in the video like the RAM because it shuts off too quickly. It just has a brief flash of life. I had noticed that sometimes it appeared to be running off the battery when it was plugged in. Is that evidence of something? But no spills, overheating, or updating. What would be the next thing to check?

Hello there, We have an almost new, one month old Acer Aspire 3 315-53 3215. It doesn't take a charge, no lights come on, totally dead. The power supply cord is fine 19.5 volts. we need to know how to access the CMOS Bios battery to try to get it to work. For a laptop that wont turn on, start your troubleshooting process here; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_MOe71kBPOY.html However, if you wish to perform the BIOS Reset by removing the CMOS Battery than refer to the video you are currently on for an Acer Aspire 3. At 3:29 in this video, you can see the CMOS battery at the bottom Right edge of the Motherboard, just above the main computer battery. Its a small round silver component. Can you see that? Let me know how that goes :)

@@PC_Monkey Yes I can see the battery on this video, I was a little hesitant to remove the hard drive because I didn't quite see how you disconnected the black connector of the hard drive, can you get a close up of how to remove it safely , do you pulled out on the socket bigger part or the ribbon , is hard to see from this angle. @@myriammilyroman3448 With the computer used here in the video, the hard drive cable simply pulled up and out of its snap-in connection to the motherboard. You can usually tell it is this type of connection by the black loop tag on the top of the connector used to pull it up and off.

Perhaps. Look up the other motherboards on sites like Ebay, Amazon, etc. See if they look the same first. If so, try and see if they have the same part number.

My acer aspire3's orange light is blinking when the laptop is on so i tried the reset pinhole and waited 15mins but nothing happened, then the laptop been chargung for 1hr and 30mins snd it is still on 83%. So they told me to drain the battery completely and charge it, after 3hrs it ia on 15% so i unplug the adapter and put it on then suddenly irs on 100 already and the orange does not blink no more (sorry mahaba) is it resolved or not yet.

The battery is okay I THINK it is chsrging up but it is reaaly slow, earlier i managed to full chsrge my laptop but it took a long ehile to do it, care center, manage device, configure update, security settings, lsptop health reports that my battery is okay, when.it reached 90 it went up or charged up really fast, but from 50 to 87 it is really slow.

Possibly. Its possible the game is using so much power that the computer cannot run it and power the battery at the same time. That could be an issue with the battery, the charger, or the computer specs not being on par with your game.

The small battery could be a CMOS battery. It is used to keep power to the motherboard and BIOS while the computer is off.

'Reseating' or unplugging and then plugging back in is always an easy first step in troubleshooting why a component is not working. I would definitely try that first. Also, make sure your updates are all updated as shown here; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vt0t0rNEDp0.html If that does not work, then I would assume the Keyboard is starting to go and would look into a replacement.

@@PC_Monkey so I’ve tried the static test, removed the round battery for half an hour etc. i couldn’t do the ram test or checking the voltage of the charger cable, but then again I have two charger cables. So guessing then it’s the motherboard? Do I need to buy a new one? Thanks so much.

@@PC_Monkey also, it looks like, having watched the full video above, my laptop very similar to yours - but there’s no ram where yours is, it’s empty. However, there is a gap in your laptop (above the bit where you had the bolt) which is filled on my laptop so I’m guessing that’s the ram?? I don’t know why it’s in different places on yours though.

@@mamasj9589 What is the full model number for your aspire 3? Most likely, your RAM is integrated into the motherboard if you cant see it. That would mean a RAM issue for you is the same as a motherboard issue :( Ya, if all the steps seen here dont help, you may need to replace the motherboard. I can help you find one if you like after getting your full model number :)
