Throat was bugging me, so no talking much today Observe belt sizes and types. They are crucial for operation 375 has extra screw to hold support headphone jack and extra plug in cable.
I just changed my belts thanks to the help of your video! The old belts were so stretched and saggy, it’s a wonder they worked at all! My CD changer works like new! I bought a 2 pack of the 2 belts I needed for the job off eBay for $10. Well worth it!
This video was my guide for doing this repair and it worked perfectly. I ordered the belts through Amazon for about $7 USD for the pair. Took about a month for these 2 tiny belts to arrive as they were shipped from Greece to NJ. At least they were the correct sizes. This was an usual project for me. If you do it keep careful track of your screws. Perhaps you have noticed that this kind of CD Carousel player is not widely available anymore so if you use it it is worth repairing.
Great video. I was able complete the process. It fixed a horrible screeching noise when starting to read a CD. Tray works like new, wasn't too bad though before the change. Hope it helps others with the same issues. Thanks Jordan!
Thanks, this helped me learn how to eject the turn table so I could resolder a new optical audio jack. The factory style had a stick style plug that got knocked and broken. So I replaced it with the style that has the dust protection door built-in. It looks great! and best of all sounds great.
Outstanding! Thank you so much! Following your excellent step-by-step instructions, accompanied by a bit of technical inquisitiveness, I was able to replace both of the belts on my CDP-CE345. I like digital, but I also insist I own non-digital copies of my music. I needed this player in order to enjoy them, of course. And now, I can do just that! Highest and Best to you, Jordan! I appreciate you sharing your expertise. I viewed several videos, but yours is the one that made it happen.
Toshiba VCR CD players are just as bad. They put the mode switch ,which needs contacts cleaned every two years or so ,right under the VCR carriage on the main board. Takes about twenty or so minutes to get to it. Clean the switch contacts then twenty minutes to put back together. Oh damn an extra screw. Aggh!
I have a Sony CDP-C435 that make a loud chunking noise when it changes disk, I should open it up and try to diagnose the source of the odd noise. All of my CDs are now ripped and served to all of my devices without the use of the cd player but I still like to spin a disk on occasion. Thanks for the video.
Great of you to share this. My replacement was successful and I owe it to your video. I had taken the player apart a while ago, and it took weeks to get the belts, after putting it back together I had 1 screw left, one with the washer/shoulder built into it, like the one that attaches the carousal. All works but I would like to know where this should go please? Listening and thanks from Texas.
What no extra screw??? Your good man! Try taking apart a Toshiba combo machine. Twenty minutes of disassembly . Clean the mode switch then another twenty minutes of reassembly. Argggh!
Too bad Sony didn't just include an access panel on the bottom to get to the belt underneath that opens the drawer. That would probably cut the time in half, but then more people might fix them instead of buying a new machine..
My player was ejecting and hit the inside of the cabinet it was in and did some damage. I watched this video and while I did notice the tray was off it’s track and one belt came loose, it’s still not ejecting and not reading any CD’s. It’s making a weird noise when I go press the open button too. Any ideas what else could be the problem?
Great video regarding belt change on the Sony CDP-CD375! I ordered the belts and followed your instructions to the letter. The belts seem great but I am still getting an error code and wondered if you might have ideas. When I turn on the unit, the tray rotates a few times, then changed direction and rotates the opposite way for a bit, and eventually just stops at which point "error" appears on the display. If you have any thoughts I'd appreciate them. Thanks for the excellent, easy to follow video!
Thank you! I will doublecheck. It seems to me the door open/close button may be "stuck" somehow, it doesn't seem to respond. I really appreciate your video and this response. Cheers!
I was thinking about some sort of sturdy frame that can be moved in 2 axes (rotate and tilt) with a couple strong magnets or maybe clamps to hold the device under repair for easy screw removement ^^ some devices are a hassle right ? not just one screw to hold it all together like in the good old times XD
Great work! Wish you lived close. I have the same model. It's worked great till now. Tray goes in and out, knows the disc is which slot. I took the top off to watch and the arm doesn't pick up the disc. Is this issue more than belts? No one in my area wants to work on these anymore. Thanks again!
@@JordanPier Hello again, another question. What type of lube do you use on belt wheels? Do you only need to lube the bottom belt and not the top? Thanks! I got into both belts. They were still on but seem loose. Would this cause my problem?
@@GunnarSande belts cant be too loose or too tight. Correct tension is crucial as all operations are timed with programming. Too slow or fast ans the set will malfunction. A drop of sewing machine oil or mo98 on the sleeve bearing on the carousel pulley is usually all thats needed
Jordan, great video, thank you! My Dad and I followed every step, and you made a difficult disassemble quite easy. I do want to ask for your help: before we found your video, we started taking it apart to see where the worn belts were, and we only got as far as taking the plastic tray that holds the 5 disks out. We then followed your steps a few days later when the new belts arrived, and noticed that we have one screw unaccounted for! It is the exact same screw that holds the plastic tray in place (the gold one in the middle that is a washer and screw combined that you put in at 8:48). Can you help me determine where that second one goes, please? Thank you so much.
Hi Jordan, I have a Sony CDP CE500, and it stopped playing any cd. It loads but doesn't spin inside. In this video, its the same design in taking it apart, but I do not see any switches that need to be cleaned in this video, as I saw in another video with my same model. Could you share what I should be looking for before I break it down to the point in this video? Thanks The CD doesn't spin when picked up.
Too many possibilities. Regulated power supply voltage missing Spin motor defective Spin motor control ic defective. Cable to carousel from main board defective Defective laser not giving info to begin spin up command. Defective pickup detect switch Defective mode switch (rotary encoder) not sending ready pulses once disc has clamped.
Hi there Jordan it's mark from Liverpool uk how are you . I like your videos on fixing things . I have a Sony midi system. The model is hcd rx70 . It's a 3 CD changer twin tape deck and tuner it's a 1 piece component . When its turned on the disc try opens even though I've selected tape or tuner . When I put a disc in its scans and says no disc when there are discs in . Also it won't play CDs. I wonder what's causing the problem please.
Hi Jordan, great vid. I've picked up this model and have a problem where the disc table runs slightly past and the pick up point and jams. Any advice, thanks in advance. Regards Jason
I had one of these fresh from some dumpster, plugged it in, enjoyed it for like 6 years, then i guess the belts pooped out. I think i threw it in the trash can right on its off-white paint blotch. (probably why sum silly dope had tossed it)
I have a Sony CDP-C445 five-disc carousel player that is about 25 years old. Recently, it has developed a problem when the carousel rotates, one cd will come out of its round tray compartment and onto the carousel itself which causes the carousel to jam. The problem occurs occasionally---not every time I play cds. It takes of lot of manipulating the carousel to get the loose cd out so the carousel gets unjammed. Any solutions to this problem?
Could be a loose belt. Surprisingly Sony really relies on belt tension for EVERYTHING on alot of their designs. Too tight and it won't complete a cycle to the next disc. Too loose and it doesn't do anything. Kinda loose and stuff runs faster than normal. You'd have to pop the top to check. If yours has the belt easily accessed at the rear of the machine for the carousel you can see how much slop is in it. I'm betting it's loose. Otherwise youll have to remove the carousel like I do in the video. If the mechanism looks the same, an sco-4.2 belt is ideal, but you can get away with an scx-4.3
@@JordanPier Thanks for the reply. I opened the cd player up and ran through five cds repeatedly to see if one would come out of its compartment, but none did. As I said before, the problem doesn't occur often----maybe 5-6 times in the past year. However, I found a clear plastic filament about 3 1/2 inches long that resembles fishing line near the laser unit that picks up the cd to be played. It is curved which indicates it originally MIGHT have been circular and broke. I'm not familiar with the belt, so what do I look for to see if it's loose? Any other suggestions?
@@JordanPier Thank you so much for your reply and the great video! I would never have been able to find the culprit carousel belt were it now for your video!
I just replaced the little rubber band belt with an elastic hair band about the same size. Ridiculous how much they wanted for a little 1 cent rubber band. 10 bucks or something
Hi I've got a pioneer VSX-5000 all works fine except the tuner won't put out stereo reception! Nothing helped I even checked all solder joints and some had cracks but I resoldered them and still not working! Would you know about his unit?
@@Jammerk40 I can do the work, but between the shipping cost both ways and the time to do it, might not be worth it. The primary way you tell whether it needs an alignment or vco adjustment, is see if it stops correctly ona channel with the auto seek function on. If it stops on 101.45 or 101.55 instead of 101.5 you've got alignment issues,.or the step switch on the back isn't set to 10/100k. If it stops on the correct frequency it may just need an adjustment of the vco Of the multiplex. The vco adjustment is on the left side of the tuner board labeled VR401. Find a good, strong station and rock the control back and forth slowly and see if stereo is received. If so, note the middle position between the two points where it drops out of stereo.
@@JordanPier On auto seek it just keeps scanning for channels but when manual tuning no problem it tunes on the channels fine! I will check the VR401 as you said to see if i can get it to tune stereo!
Don't have to buy black ones. Dollarama sells a bunch of rubber belts (some 50 pieces? various size including a few of this one) for $1. Those don't last as long (not 20 yrs), but will do it for most repairs, considering that laser and motors are chinese anyway (=disposable, long-term).
