Hey Jim another great video as always. This was one of the best videos I have seen for brakes. Especially the rear shoe replacement. Those springs still intimidate me but this video was so good I just might do my wife's Honda this time. Thank You Jim.
great detail! some other peoples videos miss the detail like stopping the flow of hydraulic fluid or show examples like you did sometimes its rushed or left out and its important thanks for the detaill
Nice helpful well done vid, I'm in much better shape to do my sons 2003 Civic tomorrow morning. Have done many rotor brakes but never rear drum brakes. Thanks for the great instruction!
I tried to remove the large spring with a pair of diagonal cutting pliers, but I had trouble. So, I used a hook set that one would use when removing O rings. I find those small hook sets with the curved ends work very well to hook onto the spring and allow the pulling off of the spring.
Hi Mr Jim, i have Camry if for some reason while putting back the sliding pin bolt original pin bolt rubber on the bottom accidentally reversed it what will happen? thanks :)
I notice this video is quite old already, but I couldn't help but notice that your white gloves are the reason you camera keeps getting dark. Using darker gloves will help you camera better keep a constant exposure. Keep up the good work in helping people learn how to work on their cars.
Hello I’m watching your video and I see how you mentioned if the drum won’t go on just tap it and I’m having that same issue due to the drum won’t go over the shoe
+Greg Robinson You know how I found out to pinch the brake line when doing the brakes. You guess it .Back when I was first starting out the wheel cylinder blew out.It happen one time and that was enough :-)
I just did front brakes on my wife's Toyota Corolla and the pedal didn't feel as solid as it should and so I checked rear brake shoes and whoever did them before installed the self adjuster backwards and 1 brake spring was broken so I tore into it and didn't pinch the line off and the wheel cylinder blew out on me that's how I know! and those corolla cylinders are a lot more delicate then the big fords and chevys it's like one wrong move and there gone! lol
I'm a lot off topic here.. I have an fyi, that you probably already know, but I have not seen in any of your tutorials... my 99 grand marquee would start but not shift out of park, off, on ,running, no shift, nothing... ok it's the brake light switch, but if the car won't move and you are stuck there.. there is a way to get it out of park, into neutral, then start it and go... turn the key to on, put your foot on the break, pull the shift lever towards you and give it some slight pressure down towards reverse, slowly keep turning the key to start... before the engine trues to start the shift lever will release, drop it to neutral, start, and go.... I have done this and it works..
+jimthecarguy ..... no... solid as a rock... and when it didn't want to move I did not revert to my German ancestry... you know.. if it don't work (or fit) force it... but that episode, which was in a circle k parking lot today.. tried my patience... so I looked online, thus tip was simple, if it didn't work... ok... but it did!!! I got the car home, just waiting for my wife to come home so we can check the brake lights... one question.. I assume that the third wire on the brake light switch sends power to a solenoid in the column that releases the shift lever???
oops.. there is no third wire... looked like there was, but no it veered off to something else... brake lights were out.. third light worked.. used the trick this morning to start the car again, took my wife to work, went to the auto zone right across the street from where she works. got the switch, all good... have a nice day sir...
