You made this video with sufficient details for someone like me to do it. Excellent step-by-by step narration. Also it gives me an appreciation for your mechanical expertise!

Thanks Charles I appreciate the feedback. That's what I was shooting for but I feel like I went into too many details? And you could definitely do a brake job no problem!

@@NoNonsenseKnowHow You absolutely didn't go into too many details Chris. It is always nice to know the " why " and " how comes " when it comes to any type of mechanical procedure. The student may become the teacher some day. I've done disc brakes my whole life but I still picked up a few tips from you. Thank you.

You know what is cool Chris, even though I have changed plenty of brake rotors in my life, I just learned a ton of tips. Two especially good ones, the spray squeal reduce and the fact that you crack the bleeder open for opening the calipers. I would never have thought of that. Thanks!

Thanks bro. You were right about investing in a mic. The audio is pretty rough in this one at points.

The other purpose for bedding in the pads is to deposit brake pad material onto the rotor evenly. Ideally your first few stops should be something like 40-5, not coming to a complete stop as that can deposit more material in one spot, making the pad not ride the surface evenly. Steady even pressure for a few slow down cycles to heat it up and evenly bed pad material to the rotor is ideal. Lastly, you want to be careful with pushing pads back in. A few car manufacturers have pistons that screw in and out, and they won’t retract without a tool to screw then back in.

Lubrication between the bracket and the shims is the "Rust Belt" trick. Overtime, the rust at the bracket will jack up the shim thereby made the pad really difficult to move. By putting lubrication there, it slows the rusting process thereby prevent the jacking. Personally, I would get all the rust out, Paint, then Lubricate. However, this type of treatment only goes on my own car. 🤪 (Friend's car, Lub only).

Idk about adding lock tight on the caliper mounting bolts. I’ve never seen anyone do it or even suggest it. They’re not on there extremely tight to begin with.

They place those screws there to assist in the assembly process.
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 3 года назад
Yes. But they also serve a good purpose by keeping the rotor secure and flat against the Hub. when you take the wheel off for a rotation. At least that's my opinion. I know they are not needed but I prefer to put them back on
@papabits5721
@papabits5721 3 года назад
If you can't get the rotor off then your in trouble, some vehicles like Mazda are notorious for seizing on. So mucus can go wrong when doing brakes.
@NoNonsenseKnowHow

Yeah I totally agree. Everybody says how easy brake jobs are, but when something goes wrong... not so much

I have seen several channels that say it is a good idea to anti seize on the pins. Why do you say it is a bad idea?
