My cousin got this for Christmas and I smashed it by accident the very next day... Of course I went out and bought him a new one - but I was left with a smashed tablet and no repair shop would accept it. I managed to find a replacement digitizer for about £40 on eBay. This is a quick and simple tutorial on how to take the thing apart.

Thank you very much !! I accidentally broke my glass when I was pressing my back cover onto my Tablet. The 2 clip on the back have a bad placement, when forcing cover outside the Tablet you are also pressing in the glass :\ But thanks to your guide I did fix it myself easily without any trouble. Tok me about 10-15 minutes :) Thanx again for sharing.

It wasn´t easy to me, but at the end it worked! Theres are a couple of tips to do the reassembly as to fit the cover starting by the buttons´side. Thanks!!

So question, if this unit has a the digitizer fused with the LCD display, how did you separate them? My daughter smashed her screen, I was going to buy a digizter only to replace it as no damage has been done to the LCD screen.

the plastic part that holds down the screens cable broke off when I removed the old screen. any ideas how to fix?

+WholeWideWorld I got the Service Manual for this from Samsung. But it doesnt really show you how to take it apart, but it does give you part numbers of everything

Just did mine fine, used Heat gun though ( so much fast then hair dryer. paid like 15% for it on ebay. Anyways This for the vid bud, help me out :D

question, I see the one you did was the SM-T550 as there is now cut out for the s-pen, I have a SM-P550 with S-PEN, not sure if the digitizer is the same on the T550 and the P550, anybody know??

+David Williams im thinking in buying the t550 screen and take apart the magnetic part of my p550 and paste it in the t550 replacement, just a thought

hey Emilio, have you tried this idea yet, I have separated the magnetic pick from the LCD, there was a small ribbon cable connecting mag pickup and LCD, any ideas what that is, the T550 does have the small socket on there too to plug this cable in but it already seems to have a cable in it

David Williams hey so I'll try to explain what happend to me, I had a broken glass on my P550 (spen version) I bought the glass on Amazon for the T550, assuming that there were not going to be any problems, because the magnetic function is not dependent on the glass/digitizer, and I replaced the glass from my P550 with the T 550 anddddd it didn't work.... sadly the only problem I had with this replacement was that the X axis on the screen was inverted (Y axis was ok) so when I pressed on the right the tablet perceived it on the left. I have found the correct replacement on sstparts.com so buy the correct one there. And I ruined my lcd display on the handling of the repair, so now I'll have to buy the whole lcd $186 I'm so fucked now.

I woke up this morning, turned on my tab a 9.7, entered my password, went to check my emails, next thing i know is that its going from cold to on fire in seconds!!! It was not even on charge or anything! I took the back off as fast as I could and umpluged the battery before any further damage could be done, luckly the flame wasent big and quikly went out on its own, Im no tecnition and this was my first time taking it apart, all i know now is that there is a chip right behind the exspandable sd card slot, it has a metal cover over the chip and it has a + on it with 475 below, I purchased my tab a brand new and its just reaching the 30 day mark of me owning it, unforchuntly no warrinty, can it be repaired?

I have done many of these and there is no way any of them come off with a credit card. Dont even try it. Use something thicker.

kay Schaeffer Yeah finally got the back off with a little flat head screwdriver and pry tool. One question though, how do I get the little black clip on the digitizer to flip?
