Ball joints are a moving joint connecting parts of the steering and suspension on your vehicle. The joints can wear down over time, becoming loose, or water and debris can enter causing rust and seizing. Either way, you'll need to replace the joint eventually. This video shows you how to install a new TRQ ball joint on your 1999-2007 Chevy Silverado 2500HD.

Typically the lower control arm ball joint is somewhere between stuck and fused together. This video glosses over the frequent difficulty encountered in releasing ball joints

I love to see all those NEW parts in there but the reality of this type of work is not being shown. Great video procedure wise but any vehicle from northern regions requires some special skills, Liam Neeson level skill, to get some of this stuff to yield. I'm doing a Pennsylvania driven 2002 hd2500 front end right now, not as sanitary as that, lol. Keep on wrenching!

EXCELLENT VIDEO, very educational for me. I need to replace all of the ball joints in my '05 2500HD 4 X 4. I am very mechanically inclined, but this helps me know just what to do. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

@@winkiiiie Mechanically inclined doesn't mean you know exactly what the process is. Just means you have a good idea and can figure it out. I'm very mechanically inclined and can figure it out if I've never done it before, however what he is saying is this video helped to give him a good idea of the correct process before just diving into the job. So not sure how that didn't add up in your head lol

Very helpful. Thank you for. All the torque specs. Also. If you’re like me going to. Do this. It’s always a good idea to call a dealership and relay your vin Number and see what parts are on the vehicle. To insure you have what you need. With no trips back to the store

That was an EXCELLENT tutorial of replacing a ball joint on the same model I own. Our world is different here in upstate NY where salt is used on the roads from Nov. thru April. The undercarriages look a little less familiar after a couple of years exposure and jobs like this are a nightmare. VERY well shot with carefully thought out camera angles and lighting. At least I know what the parts should look like. Thanks.

It’s a lot easier to just replace the control arm that comes with a new joint already pressed it and there’s not much of a cost difference

Did this Truck have a Torque Rod front suspension? If so, do you not have to release the Torque Rod Tension with this method since you didn't remove the Lower Control Arm?

No, as long as the shock is on it will hold it back. You also don’t have to remove the drive shaft or sway bar link to replace ball joints on this truck.

Just so everyone knows this is on a 2wd if you have torsion bar type suspension dont try it like how he does or you might get hurt. This only applies if you have a 2 wheel drive or newer trucks with struts up front with 4wd. Good luck.

I didnt remove the sway bar bushings, thats probably why i couldnt separate the lower ball joint from the lower control arm doh!

All these comments saying its usually harder than this.. the video is to show you the steps. Its not a reality tv bit. Yes, you may need to know some tricks for getting stuck things loose, but thats another video. So quit pointing out the obvious, that things dont always go as smoothly as the how to video depicts.

The upper ball joint comes as the entire arm assembly. Only the bottom balljoint gets pressed in.

Thats not true my upper and lower ball joints are pressed in on my 2000.

This is apparently a 2wd. Most older Silverados are 4wd, because the 2wd types are more often junked.
