Was able to successfully change my rear brake pads/rotors thanks to this video. I am a high schooler with virtually no experience, but was easily able to follow. Thank you so much jimthecarguy!

That’s such a massive save on how the rear piston goes back in. I was scratching my head about that one. Thank god I can use the pliers for that one

great video! I appreciate that you lubricate everything including the bolts. All those bolts squicked pretty loud for the fact the you said you will lubricate them! But you really should have pointed out the torque for those 4 bolts! Thats as important then the rest!

Great Video! Was having trouble trying to figure out how to get the caliber off. So odd that you had to push the caliber back while its still in the bracket. After I watched your video and bought a breaker bar it was a quick and easy change. First time working on a Hyundai and everything was fairly straight forward

Didn't have the special tool or long enough pliers to rotate the part. I used channel locks. Was able to hole them in the notched and spin it in. Great video. Thanks for the help.

I noticed you mention to use a 9/16th wrench for the rear brake, but I didn't see any part of the video where you actually used it?? Is it necessary for rear brakes?? Please advise

I just did rear brakes on a 16 elantra. I've done brakes on many different cars and have never run across this type of piston on the rear brakes. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't compress them with a C clamp. So I came to youtube and found your video. I was able to grab the piston with a pair of channel lock pliers and turn them. But I'm still confused how these work. If you have to screw them in to compress them, how do they come out as the pads wear? The tab that fits into the slot will prevent it from unscrewing.
@tristansimpson9249
@tristansimpson9249 4 года назад
If I'm not mistaken the Piston that turns is for the rear wheels and are used by the ebrake so when you pull it up the Piston is pushed against the brake pad and when released the opposite happens
@jeffflowers729
@jeffflowers729 4 года назад
Tristan Simpson I don’t think that’s right. There is only one piston and has to move when you apply the brake pedal. It was a weird looking ebrake setup though.

Is the metal plate plate on the inside pad that the caliper piston pushes on supposed to be transferred to the new pads? I bought the Carquest Platinum Professional pads.

should have lubed (with the copper grease or anti seize)the flange between the rotor and hub .makes for easy removal the next time

Great video Jim, I love Hyundai but I feel like thier ABS system is sensitive. I get customers that complain about pulsating and think it’s thier breaks mostly on Santa Fe. Do you ever hear that? .... Jay

Hi Jim, is there any reason why you did not open the bleeder when compressing the cylinders? I thought it was not good to push the fluid back into the brake system.
@GuitarGuy650
@GuitarGuy650 Год назад
It's a closed system. Pushing the pads in makes no difference, unless someone overfilled the resevior, in which case it may spill over
@brianmiller1161

Great video! Is there much difference in anti seize and the brake silicone, or can anti seize be used for both?
@JimLambier
@JimLambier 3 года назад
The anti-seize and brake lube serve different purposes and shouldn't be interchanged. Over time, the anti-seize will start to thicken and become gummy. If you use this on the slide pins or on the areas that should move, it will cause problems. The anti-seize is great for areas that don't move but might need to be removed in the future. It's job is not to lubricate; it's job is to prevent rust. In addition to adding it to the bolts, I add it to the surfaces on the rotors that contact the wheel hubs and where the wheel will mount. I started doing the latter after an experience where a tire would not come off even though the lug nuts had been removed.

You hang the caliper so the hose doesn't stretch, thus causing a leak.

What is ya don’t have the two screws or cannot put in none because the holes is blocked
@jimthecarguy

If you are not able to install the screws it is ok but just make sure that if the screw broke off it is filed down to be flush with the hub.

My Hyundai Kona the engine vibrates mostly when at a stop light or bumper to bumper traffic. I wonder if that’s a serious concern. It only has 8,000 miles on it

jimmy i am a hyundai tech I was the first tech at my dealership to touch a kona when they first arrived. it was not long ago that they arrived they are new vehs. I want to be honest with you any and all hyundai sales people will say to you that there grate vehs. the truth is they are JUNK in plane english but at 800k what ever it is will probable be under waranty this concern you speak of can be caused by many things motor mount misfire and so on take it to a hyundai dealer and have them test drive it and also scan for any codes .
