Very good video footage. I like how you overdubbed the instructions later in a small room to eliminate the echo you hear in a garage. Better message transfer.

A local shop fleeced my gf on replacing 4 brake pads ($660!) and quoted her $337 and change to replace the window regulator +motor (they didn't say how much would've been for parts & how much they estimated labor) Reading the mechanic's note on the invoice infuriated me. I remember watching this vid back when her window first started giving her problems & hate to admit I shoulda just replaced it for her sooner. Just ordered off you site, easy and secure. Thanks for this so much

Nice explanation of how to disassemble the door. Found the switch was dirty and after cleaning it up it worked fine. Added a bit of grease to the track the roller runs in .... after 17 years it was rough running.

Wow, almost flawless video, I replaced mine quickly with no prior knowledge! My only thing is that you said 4 bolts when there were 2 additional ones taken out... the ones attached to the window. I was a bit confused, but you guys kept it simple, so I was able to figure it out with no issues (clearly I'm not a hand-man).

+1A Auto Parts Thank you very much for your answer.I have a Honda Civic.My car’s passenger side window regulator stopped working properly.I could open the window,but when I wanted to close the window,the window went only half of the way,and I had to bring it up manually.So,it was like this for a while till one day when I took my car for oil change,I asked them if they can fix this problem.They told me no,and they introduced me to Window tint place that they change regulator as well.When I went there,they told me that your regulator does not work properly,and we should replace it.When I asked about the fee,they told me it is $150.So,in this economy it is too much money for me. Then I started to search about this issue on You Tube,that I came across your video.I really loved it,because this was the same model of my car,and you explained it clearly.I watched your video several times,and I took important notes.I ordered a new regulator online,and I received it after a few days.The day that I decided to do it by myself was really exciting.It was really challenging for me since it was my first time that I did not,and the most challenging part was holding the window,because I was alone,and I did not have a helper! Also window adjustment was very difficult for me.First time after I tried it,I saw that the window does not go up all the way! So,I opened the window again,and I adjusted it.This time worked,and I really got happy! Thank you again! It works very good now,and everything is OK. Just after I fixed it,I met a friend of a friend,and I talked about this issue.He told me that he changed auto-glass(as his business) a long time ago.He told me that the tint store was probably wrong about the replacement of regulator.He told that the regulator worked,because it took the window half the way,and it just needed a window adjuastment!Anyway I met him late!I changed it,and I did it successfully! I am really happy that such good people like you are on You Tube,that you teach us very helpful things,and we can save some money especially in this economy.Thank you again,and I wish you good luck!Thanks for your time as well!

Very useful video - I was able to replace my broken window regulator by following the instructions - thanks! I'm wondering about the water shield though - you mention that in your case there is no water shield, my car has one however. I'm sure Honda didn't put anything in there for no reason, including the water shield, but given that this car didn't have one, I'm wondering if I should bother putting it back on. Given its placement, I'm wondering what it is even protecting against - water normally would enter the car from outside, not inside, but what do I know?

Great video showing how to access and replace the regulator. However, based on my experience, you ALSO HAVE TO FIX THE ROOT CAUSE of the problem that caused the regulator to fail. If not, the new regulator may prematurely fail after one year... My Civic is over 23 years old. In my case, I additionally had to PARTIALLY REMOVE the rubber window "run channel" (I only removed the left and right "sides" of the channel), CLEAN THE CHANNELS of accumulated dirt (I used cotton swabs soaked in "Goo Gone" but I guess soapy water would work as well). In addition, it was easy to completely REMOVE THE WINDOW from the door. Once removed, it was important to thoroughly CLEAN THE FRONT AND BACK EDGES of the window. Finally, I read that the "run channel" should be LUBRICATED WITH SILICONE GREASE. In particular, I read that Honda's Shin-Etsu Silicone Grease, part #08798-9013 should be used to lubricate the channels. My local Honda dealer price-matched another dealer's price; I paid $18.15 for one tube. Since I had gone through two regulators, each lasting only about one year, I GENEROUSLY GREASED the channel AND both sides of the window's left and right edges BEFORE REINSTALLING THE WINDOW. After re-assembly, the window moved up and down without any hesitancy. In comparison, the other windows moved much slower - so, I will do preventive maintenance for the other windows by removing the windows, and thoroughly cleaning the window edges AND run channel. Cleaning removes the accumulated dirt, which allows the window to move freely, and reduces the load on the window regulator motor and assembly. Hopefully, reducing the load on the regulator will prevent the regulator from failing again.

Hey, everything works out for me perfectly, except when I connect the door rod back with the door handle, the door lock doesn't work. I figured that if I pull the rod then the lock works, but it doesn't if the rod goes back to its place. With this problem on, I have to leave my car open, which none wants to. Any suggestion?

I commend 1A for this very informative tutorial. I am a DIY'r myself and I have exactly the same problem on my 96 Honda Civic LXI. But the regulator motor still runs. It is just that the cables that wind in the plastic reel inside the casing, which pull the glass window up and down are unwinded out of the reel. The metal cover of the reel popped out, thereby unpacking the winding cables. What do you recommend? Try repacking the cables to the reel or replacement of the assembly just as seen on your video? Thank you and more power.
@pc6181
@pc6181 3 года назад
This happened to me, too. The motor is still ok but the metal cover popped off, the cables are all twisted. I think you will need to replace the entire window regulator assembly. BUT before replacing the window regulator, please be sure to thoroughly clean the rubber window "run channel" and remove accumulated dirt from the channel, thoroughly clean the front and back edges of the window that contact the channel, and lubricate the channel and window edges with Honda's silicone grease (part no. 08798-9013). For a thorough explanation, see my comment posted on Dec 9 2020.

When I plugged it back in I brought the regulator up to the window that I had taped up but it still won’t go down. Just like the original one it went all the way up but won’t come down. I can see the lights dim when I push the button. What else could be bad? My rear left window sometimes gets stuck too sometimes. Could the switch be bad?

Brother I need your advice and brilliant ideas PLEASE. I'm Michael in England by the way brother and own a 2000 Honda Civic EJ9 Hatchback but right hand drive for the Japanese Market. So unknowingly I've only gone and ordered a Dorman 741-736 window regulator which is for a USDM Honda Civic's (Passenger side) so have just discovered that the regulators motor electrical plug is a 2 pin whereas on my UKDM Civic (Driver side) it's a 4 pin plug. So basically regulator and motor would fit as it's for the right side door, just theres 2 wires and a 2 pin plug instead of 4 wires and a 4 pin plug to connect to my UKDM wiring as my civic is right hand drive and regulators are reversal compared to left hand drives. Any ideas to work round this bro? Damn totally my fault I should've known plugs would be different being that RHD - UKDM and LHD- USDM, Totally my fault 🤦🏼🤣 Your advice and ideas would be greatly appreciated please brother, Kind regards Michael in England

If you need to remove tape glue from holding up your window, Goo Gone works well. It takes a while, but it will remove it. I had to do this job 3 years ago and I'm back again due to a misaligned window. Coat the window tracks with silicon grease!

Got a question hopefully you guys are still replying lol so I have a Honda Civic ex 99 coupe my window motor stopped working so I got one from eBay it worked for a month then it stopped then I got another one and it wasn’t working at all but there’s power is it because I need the factory window motor?
@pc6181
@pc6181 3 года назад
I also replaced the original Honda regulator with one purchased from eBay, and then another purchased from Advance Auto. Please see my latest reply made on Dec 9, 2020. You probably also need to correct the ROOT CAUSE. In my case, I had to partially remove the rubber window "run channel" (only removed the left and right sides), then thoroughly cleaned the channel and removed accumulated dirt that was on the channel, then completely removed the window and cleaned both sides, and most importantly, clean the left and right edges of the window that contact the channel, and finally, lubricated the run channel AND window edges with Honda's silicone grease (part no. 08798-9013). Now, the window moves fast and without hesitation. Hopefully, it will last for many years.

You may want to test the switch to see if it's working correctly and that there's also power to it. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-393

I need help, my girlfriends window is stuck half way, when you press the window switch the motor turns on and it like bounces or jiggles the window but it wont move. I pulled the window up and taped it. Does this mean the i need the part you replaced in the video or that part that looks like it has teeth like a track. I found both parts on ebay claiming they were window regulators for the same car but they look like different parts.

Yes, sounds like you'll need to (or already did) replace the window regulator.

my 98 ex coupe has different regulator. It is a gear instead of cable and the gear is stripped out right before window gets completely closed
