Thanks very much for recording and uploading this awesome DIY Power Steering Pump Repair video. In a few weeks, I will be performing this same repair job on my son's mother's Acadia. I will be referencing this video again. Amazing quality video. Thanks!

I Just performed this repair today on my girlfriend's acadia. I'm glad this method was discovered by someone and memorialized on youtube as it did work for me. It did not go as smoothly for me as the gentleman was able to do it. A third hand would have helped tremendously as its tricky to hold the pulley in place and get the tools set up. In the end it took me about 4 hours but the problem is fixed! Much better than paying the shop 1k. If anyone out there wants me to do it for them I'll do it for 400 lol

I'd have you do this for me for $400! I'm trying to do it, and can't figure out how he gets his hands in there to loosen the high pressure not. My hand BARELY squeezes in blind - it looks like he has all the room in the world. Almost looks like he took out the rack!

As a avid DIY'er i must day thanks for the video. Most of the ones on YT say to pull down the frame. I was hoping to avoid this and you just saved me some time and money. And your right the Acadias is hard to work on. I get frustrated but at least Ik its not just me. Its always something with this car.

Hey boss thanks for the video . I was able to do it this way . Wasn’t “easy” as I have massive large hands (I’m 6 6). Also this one had been leaking for months so it was well coated in slime .

Could not wiggle the pump out in '08 AWD Acadia as suggested. Instead used pulley remover from HF with an impact wrench to remove pulley.It then easily comes out the front.

thanks for this. was dreading the idea of dropping part of the engine cradle without having access to a lift. just got home after work and all of a sudden my power steering is intermittent. not sure if something else is wrong besides the pump but i may need this video anyway.

I found the best and easiest way to take the pump out. Remove the axle, and the pump drops down easy peasy. There are no leaks from the axle.

No need to remove the pulley,,the whole unit slides out easily by pulling it out towards the back of the vehicle,over the crossmember,,,just did it yesterday👍👍👍

Is yours an awd or fwd? Having an issue getting the 16 m and rear bolt off. It’s an awd.

@@KayHillFashion Make sure you take off the heat shields, they are easy to take off and give you lots of room. Yes It will come off from the back.

@@tonyfry6531 Thank you. Ended up taking off the heat shield- gave up putting it back on 😫😂 said it was a 6 hour job.. took me 6 days 😂 working outside in 30 degrees without a lift was no joke.

@@KayHillFashion thanks for your post. Preparing to do this job myself. Can I confirm that you were able to get the pump out on a AWD (2011 - if it matters?) by taking off the heat shields - but otherwise following the instructions shown here? I have access to a lift so I hope that will make it easier thoughts?
@KayHillFashion
@KayHillFashion 2 месяца назад
@@scottgillespie4781 I did it on the ground with the front 2 tires on jack stands. After I took the bottom heat-shield off, I used 2x 12” 1/2” extensions to reach that tricky top bolt on the pump from behind the heat shield/ exhaust area. The swivel head extension I bought from Harbor freight was trash, would slip off the bolt. But if you had a quality swivel head socket that isn’t floppy it would probably work better. But I did it with a regular socket. Somehow I broke the bracket that held the upper hose that attaches to the firewall but it worked out because it gave me the extra room I needed to pull the pump out and put the new one in. I definitely did not reattach that bracket and had to wiggle that hose by pushing it up (bigger thicker one) when it was time to line the bigger hose to the pump to reattach it. You probably won’t have as many issues as I had since you have access to a lift. Im definitely not a mechanic just a girl who loves flipping cars and I figured it out in freezing weather in a parking lot. If you have any questions feel free to reach out. I did take the outter tie rod off trying to get more access to that top bolt but in hindsight, I didn’t have to do that. Hope the information helps. Mine was a 2014 awd Acadia. I did NOT drop the k frame or remove the exhaust, cat or top heat shield (couldn’t reach the top bolt with my short arms). You got this buddy! Just think of all the money you’ll save since it’s a 6 hour dealer job.

I thought you first bleed the power steering with engine off, to avoid a ton of bubble in fluid. Then after 10 to 20 turns with engine off, turn on engine and do some turns. Otherwise, great video, helped me save some time.

On your new pump you used power steering fluid instead of automatic transmission fluid? Weren’t most power steering pumps on acadias switched to ATF? Love the video though, been searching for a way to avoid dropping the subframe. Thanks
@scottrobinson2286
@scottrobinson2286 Год назад
Only use AtF if you have put a new rack and pinion,or steering gear, GM says just use powersteering fluid if your just changing the pump.GM says the old rack and pinion seals will swell and leak using ATF.I did mine just as he did it but had to drop the cradle to get more room.8hrs later done.No crawling underneath.
@renan8486
@renan8486 Год назад
It depends on the year of the car, mine is 2012 traverse and requires ATF. BTW, the idea of removing the pulley is awesome 👍
