Good video, thanks! I've got a 2013 Accord Sport with a manual, 122k right now and mostly trouble free, but that's tanks to preventative maintenance like you show in this video.
Great video! I'm about 140k miles on my 2013. This engine has been bullet proof so far but i do need to get my preventative maintenance done as small leak started developing around the head cover.
@@Brandon-id1td valve covers gasket failed, and caused a leak. By this time i also had replaced a starter, and rear wheel bearing. And a tension pulleys due to noise it was making.
@@jasonb8307 ya mine is making a weird clicking sound I change the serpentine belt it seems like it’s only at start up.. I’m leaking oil for valve cover and my spark plugs are misfiring I think it’s time to replace the gasket?
So the part # is 12030-5a2-a01. Honda original is 55ish$ knock off is 30ish Great video also you can do this job WITH OR WITHOUT OIL. Ill i did was replace seal my honda had 170k miles as well. But again AMAZING video and informative like fbi interviews. Took me 30mins once i saw this video 5 times on different days.
Thanks for the video. Bought a 2017 Accord and at 63k miles the valve cover gasket is already leaking significantly. In my 01' it lasted until 200k before I had to change it.
You mentioned NO OIL in the engine, what is the reason for that? I am only replacing the gasket. Does the "NO OIL" have to do with the valve adjustment? Thank you
Thanks for uploading such a detailed Video. My 2015 Accord Lx,92000 miles is Missing while moving out of a stop sign, the car will hesitate to move then will pick speed after 1-2 second of pressing gas). Recently the check engine turned ON..
Man this is helpful but I cant stop thinking to myself with all the plastic. They don't make them like they used to 😒 great video man hitting like for the others
Thanks for video. I just did the starter on my accord today at 95k. I bought a remanufactured one for 70 bucks. Not as good of deal as you got on yours but it still was not bad. Thanks again for making these videos. The starter replacment one really helped me out. So 170k on the Accord now huh. How much longer do you think you will keep it?
My 2013 Accord needed a new starter at about 100,000 also-- worked great until one day my wife stopped to get gas and engine would not start... No warning- I read that they were designed poorly in that slip ring dust gets into a contactor inside and shorts it out-- I replaced with a remanufactured one also but afterwards I wished I'd just got a new one from Bosch as it likely isn't a poor design like the Honda OEM one.
Thanks for the video. Really appreciate it. I have a question. I have a 2017 Honda Accord hybrid with 80, 000. There's no leak on the head cover gasket. I'm asking about the valves. Should I check the valve for adjustment or just wait? Let's say to a $100,000?
Well made video. What is the purpose of the little squarish gasket on the middle inside of the cover? It looks like it communicates with a port going down the block.
Thanks for the video! I have a 2014 Manual 2.4 with 204,000 Km. I have a horrible rattle on start up. I’m thinking of calling her the “Rattle Box” The V-teck actuator was change at 158 or so just in warranty. But it’s bad again. It’s used oil since new, not that bad. What air intake do you have I see?
Excellent video the best so far!. Question I have 2015 Honda accord sport 4 cyl can you provide OEM valve cover gasket set with all the small gaskets part# for my vehicle?
Just went to check my tensioner pulley because I've had a new noise when the engine revs. Was planning on replacing it so I took the drive belt off to check and the pulley is smooth and doesn't make any noise. Started looking around and saw oil near the valve cover gasket. I recently had to add a quart, which is something I've never had to do. I have a 2014 with 71k miles on it. Have you ever heard of the valve cover gasket needing to be replaced this early? That's what brought me to your video. I appreciate the depth you went to in your explanation. Thanks in advance.
@@carlspackler91 Man, I hope so. My 93 Accord was easy. I watched this video on the valve cover gasket replacement and it seems a lot more involved than the older ones. I'm swapping out the PCV valve, as well.
Great video! Wifey has a 2015 CR-V with this earth dreams engine. Is the valve clearance the same? A lot of the info ive searched for shows the regular K24 specs and directions.
Hi Michael, thank you for sharing this video that will help me in the future. where did you get the steps you showed in the video can you share the PDF or is there anywhere I can get the maintenance book that shows how to do any job in the car? I have a 2013 accord 4 cylinders and right now I have 125k miles on and do not have issues and im thing to do the water pump. Thank you and appreciate any help
Thanks a lot, really well-explained video! I apologize, but a couple of questions are on my mind: I heard the leak could be coming from a bad PVC valve, is that true? Do I need to change the valve instead to replace the gasket? Any help with the gasket maker, what is the best and has a little amount ?? I don't need to buy something for only a few drops! Thanks again!
Well done video, thank you. Just one question about rotating the engine. In the past Honda engines rotated counterclockwise has this changed on this engine?
i have 15 accord sport would you give a link for the parts?? or should i get one from rockauto or 1aauto? im kinda worried about parts quality. appreciate the feedback.
AT 80,000 mile my 2015 Accord started leaking around the valve cover. I had to replace a sticking PCV valve which was causing the problem. When the PCV goes out pressure builds and causes the leak.
Ashraf Sunesara Yeah, I meant to do that, but time is always an issue for me. The tools are listed quickly early in the video. It’s mostly basic tools other than the feeler gauge which you can get at any auto parts store. Make sure if you do buy a feeler gauge that it has the size you need. I also highlight my other video with valve adjustment at about 6:30. Good luck and take your time.
wow that engine is spotless. My 2012 has a dirtier engine and i'm at 93k. My question is, the dealer told me my "timing chain case cover is leaking", and when I look down on the side of my engine there is a bit of dried oil. Would changing this valve cover gasket fix that or do I need to change another gasket?
At 5:37 there are good mm measurements but obviously incorrect inch measurements. People should try division by 25.4 to reveal that the intake range is 0.008-0.010 in or 0.0083 - 0.0098 in.
If they are noisy or when you are replacing the head cover gasket. Honda suggests checking after 100k miles, but if you drive mostly freeway you can likely go longer.
It’s always a good thing to remove the negative cable from the battery to prevent causing an electric short and blow a fuse or the worse damaging the computer. Thanks so much this video gives us lots of confidence to perform this work
Hi Michale,,I have 2016 Honda Accord,,,,the engine looks about the same like your car ,,,now I try to replace the brake flush , but I couldn’t find out where’s the brake flush locate at ,,,,,please help,,, thanks
Hello Michael, what do you think about oil catch can installation? Would you recommend? Rumours say installing one can prevent oil burn and valve cover gasket leaks...
Nice video. Have the same car and I see seepage from the valve cover gasket. Does your engine consume alot of oil? Mine has from day 1 but not enough for Honda to do anything about it. Seems like consumption has gone up alot recently.
I have the same Honda Accord 2017 Sport with only 25.000 miles on it. The car is loosing coolant but not much just a little bit after 5.000 miles changing oil. Coolant in reservoir is lower than MINIMUM LINE now. just bought it brand new in 8/2017 from a local dealer. any recommend sir?
Hi Mike, i have a question for you. I have the exact same car Honda accord 2014 Lx (same color) I just got back from the honda dealer because i had code P0128 and P0303 (mis fire on cylinder 3) And they told me that i blew my head gasket and need a new or used engine. I then took it to 2 mechanics and believe honda is taking it to a hole different level. What is your advice on that? and can i just replace the heads on it ? i dont want to replace the hole engine its very expensive and not thinking on keeping it for more then a year. Please help! Im stressing out and very confused!
What caused the initial issue? Did it overheat or were there any other signs of problems? If you do need an engine ebay is the cheapest and they offer engines out of salvage cars for less than $1000.
Personally I drain the oil first and when finished I pour another quart down with the drain plug off to wash out anything that may have come loose during the job.
@@Sunshone7311 i gotcha, i thought it was required. but im assuming its just a preference? but a great preference in that instance to avoid any contaminants
Great video but ....what is the torque on the valve cover bolts you said 5 or 7 and also the torque on the spark plugs my only question please answer back
The throttle body is super touchy and it can major problems if you throw off the position during cleaning which may require a trip to the dealer. I decided I didn’t want to be blamed if that happened to people.
I bought a 2016 honda accord used and recently I am noticing im losing oil somehow and i checked all around the engine also underneath but i cant find any leak. I noticed one thing around the gasket cover its kinda dirty and black all around it could this be the issue? but I don't see leaking but it's dirty and black. should I change the gasket cover? I changed the oil twice so far and not even 2000 miles my oil is below half on the dip stick. I drive a lot and also do uber. my car has 40000 miles on it currently. I'm guessing this car maybe in a car accident before but I don't know. Do you think I should change the gasket cover and see what happens?
I do notice when i change my oil im down quite a bit from when.i.put new oil in, also do you wver get a noise when shifting into park a sorta buzzing noise i have a video i put up of the noise itself n its driving me nuts cause i.cant find where.its.coming from
Hi I have a Honda Accord Sport 2.4 2013 with a mechanical gearbox. Could you please show how to replace an oil in a mechanical gearbox. Thank you in advance.
Andres Cruz vazquez changing the valve cover gasket is pretty easy with this video and doesn’t require rotation of the engine cams. Rotation is just for measuring valve lash / timing gaps.
Zimbo Simmons check the torque on all 8-10 bolts. If you can tighten a few (gently with one hand on the ratchet), then you may be able to stop the leak in about a minute.
