You don't need to take the whole cluster apart to take off the transmission bulb casing. You can work it open with a bit of work from the back side.

New here. Working on Honda's is a treat that I have missed. Quality walk-through. A kind thank you to those involved.

Thanks for the info. On my 2000 CRV I followed your directions all the way until I realized that you don't have to actually take off the clear and black front parts. It is quite simple (was for me) to very carefully loosen the back white box directly from the back. then simple switched the bulbs. great ideas tho.

Thanks! once you take the cluster out, there is no need to pop the cover. All the rest of the work can be done by removing the gear shift bulb block directly from the back.

+Zaigui Wang Hi, yes it can be done that way, but this is my preferred method to limit possible damage. Thanks for watching.

Haven’t been able to do it either way . At least not with the knifes . What a pain in the ... . The 2 little white circle heads there are no way to get them off .

Hey, another question. Noticed last night that its awfully dark around sideview mirror and window switches. Is there supposed to be backlighting there? If so, mine is out.

Mahalo for this video.. need to do this on my 99 CR-V LX.. but I think I wanna do it all in LED's and I need to do the Center radio and climate control lights too. Any chance you know or have a video on it's disassembly and if they're all the same bulbs. I'm gonna cross reference this one's someone previously posted as the stock replacements on "ebay " Acura Honda speedometer Park reverse drive LONG socket bulb size T5 LOT of 4 .

+Jonathan JDM4forLife Hi I can only say for a 97, but I think you start in the glove box, and then remove the bottom part of the console, then up to the middle part that push out from behind. I'm sure there are some hidden screws, so be warned. There must be some vids on youtube for it. As for changing the lighting no idea, sorry. Thanks for watching.

Awesome. Got the bulbs from the link in previous comment. Also unnecessary to take all the stuff off the front if the cluster. Now does anyone know how to remove the window trim rails. They were black, and paint is chipping and peeling. Might just strip them down to polished aluminum.

Honda part number: 78181-SF1-612 in case you missed it. The 97 CR-V part number is 78181-SF1-610. I understand why you want to be so careful and not do anything rough with the bezel, but since that cover is on the back and is NOT held in by any screws, why can't you release the clips from the back??? I've got one of these bulbs out and I think I'll give this a go, but get it apart from the back. I don't like the idea of taking the whole bezel apart just to get to a bulb under a cover on the back.

Can I replace mine with led lights?
@BoxsCarFix
@BoxsCarFix 8 лет назад
+Yewon2001 Hi, I'll be honest and say I’m not a fan of modifying things on cars with aftermarket equipment. I tend to take it case by case, for instance I will have a video soon about fitting aftermarket central locking. The main thing when adding to the original is do your home work, make sure what you add is not going to damage the vehicle or you. In this case theoretically it should be possible, if you were able to acquire leds with the same electrical rating and fabricate fitment. But there are other things to consider even if you can fit it; what happens over time on that circuit which was not designed to take that kind of bulb? What are you gaining and is it worth possible expensive damage if it goes wrong? Also, the colour lense in-front of that bulb may become damaged. I dont think there is adjustment for brightness on that cluster, a different light may interfere with driving at night. I would NOT do it. Thanks for watching.
