I have to say this is a great video. I am a female that sometimes takes on small projects. However I have assigned the electric stove top replacement to my loving husband. He was an aircraft mechanic and has general good knowledge about working parts electrical is so so. (I have replaced my own electrical breaker cartridge). This video was great step-by-step. No nonsense. And seems to have everything we need to replace the stoves tomorrow....😊

F for sears. F for the Cooktop. I came across your channel when I was searching for instructions to get the gunga out of my Maytag dishwasher. The nefarious Gungalungus also gave me a hard time so thank you for the help in vanquishing it. I have to say you have a hilarious take on how you do things and I really cant get enough of your videos. Love the content.

Ohhh I feel for you with that break! I'm over the top with protecting things now because of breaking an expensive item just from not taking the extra time and effort. Thanks for the video, I'm going to replace my mom's coil top with a radiant one and your video is what I needed!

I, too, miss Sears-That-Was. Sad to see them go. Thanks for the video. I don't understand the letter; but I probably share the underlying sentiment. "F" in my day was not a mark of respect, but failure. I feel your pain for the loss of the very nice cooktop, too.
@Bootstrappin
@Bootstrappin Год назад
Thank you for the kind words. The "F" has a long story, basically it originated from a video game called Call of Duty, where upon approaching the casket of a fallen comrade, the prompt "press F to pay respects" appears. Pressing "F" makes your character salute the grave. It was thought to be so over the top insensitive and impersonal that it became a meme for sharing a sorrow online, especially in forums.

😲 Everything was going so well 🙈😖😣🤦🏻‍♀️ Great video by the way. My husband is replacing the stobe top, it's a pain, he had to smash it with a hammer since it was glued to the granite 🤦🏻‍♀️ Im not a fan of electic stoves by the way, but this one was too old, broken and was acting up. RIP as well 🤷🏻‍♀️

Love the video. Not much of a DIY guy but I think this is something I can manage. How do I find out the "power issue" you mentioned in the last minute of the video. Too much vs. too little for the new top? Thanks for your time in advance.
@Bootstrappin
@Bootstrappin 2 года назад
Look at the breaker supplying your current cooktop, the number on it will tell you the max current it can supply. The specification sheet of the new cooktop should have the current/max amperage requirement, which should match the breaker. If it's smaller (as in max current on cooktop is smaller than breaker), you can just swap the breaker for a smaller one. If it's larger, that's a no go unless you are willing to replace the wiring from the panel to a larger gauge.

Thank you!!! I am replacing my cooktop and the opening is about .5 inches too big. I've been watching videos and googling and finally came across this one. And it worked!! :)

With metal flex housing for the wires, "usually" all you have to do is ground to the box if the metal wire housing (That I can't remember the name of) goes all the way back to the panel. The metallic housing is the ground on those.

Is there a way to disable individual burners? The two burners on the left side of my cooktop had cracked glass like your poor cooktop at the end (F) but the other two are perfectly fine and I'd like to just disable the 2 left ones and then put a single-burner induction stove unit on top of it.
@Bootstrappin
@Bootstrappin 2 года назад
You could probably remove the whole potentiometer underneath the knobs and cap off the wires going to the pot with some heat shrink -- but this will likely require a lot of work (you'd have to turn off the breaker, remove the cooktop and disassemble it through the underside) - enough work to justify buying an entire new/used cooktop with built in induction. I don't know if there's an easier way. Newer cooktops do have an RJ45 port, implying that their firmware can be modified, but I wouldn't know where to start.

Table saw is certainly on the wish list! But mostly for if I had a space large enough for a woodshop. I always thought he was saying 'stepping on the beat' but that makes no sense. Oopsie!

My house has a supply wire is white and black and a bare copper, how do I hook that up?
@Bootstrappin
@Bootstrappin Год назад
I'm not sure -- because that sounds like a conductor for a regular outlet. I guess I would first figure out what's going on with that cable, see if it's 120V or 240V. Measure between black and white, bare and white, and black and white. And just in case, I'd be cautious with that bare, just in case it was wired strangely.
@MAGAMAN
@MAGAMAN Год назад
That is definitely not the correct type of wire for an electric range. If that is hooked to a 30 or 50 amp breaker, that is a massive fire hazard. I would call an electrician. Remember, if you make un-permitted repairs or upgrades to your house that cause it to burn down, your insurance company does not have to cover them.

@Bootstrappin
@Bootstrappin 8 месяцев назад
Not necessarily, apologies if I didn't mention that. Mine didn't have anything holding it down so it slipped right out, but yes - it's possible there's clamps screwed down on the underside.

Make the hole big enough so you can throw the cooktop through it. If you don't have an RCD, neutral and earth should be the same.

Good video (we have a 20+ year cooktop that has seen better days) but dude…you could have pushed up that cooktop to clean all that “gunga” from under the edges at any time 😂😂😂
@MAGAMAN
@MAGAMAN Год назад
A sheet of 3/4 plywood with a few pieces of 2/4 around the edges would have probably prevented that problem. I have a glass top electric range (I hate electric!) and when I put my range hood in I moved that sucker out of the way. No way would I take a chance wrecking a brand new $1200 (pre-Bidenflation) range.

LMAO I’m laughing my ass off… The last 30 seconds of the video is my life completely! I was just now trying to open a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and the cork screw malfunctioned, broke loose, and I dropped the bottle onto the glass top… Of course, you know that it shattered it Lol I said F that stove… Let me find a way to get this damn bottle open SMH

Don't you need to secure the cooktop? You just drop it in and that's it?
@Bootstrappin
@Bootstrappin Год назад
I think it depends if the manufacturer provided anything. I don't recall this cooktop having such an attachment. But from what I've seen, it'll just be a couple of angle brackets that clamp on to the underside of your countertop.
