Wow, great video Joel. Thanks so much. I have to replace my POS leather seat cover and since my driver's side heater doesn't work, I'll change the element at the same time.

Great video, just completed the seat bottom and heater element replacement, looks good as new, took about 4.5 hours since the bolts attaching seat to frame were near welded tight, all four of them and limited leverage!

One of the best made instructional repair videos I've ever come across. My JKU has defective drivers seat heat (neither bottom or back will heat). Looking for more trouble shooting videos. Yours will be ideal should I find the problem be what yours was. Thanks again and walk proud with what you posted.

Hey Joel. Amazing tutorial. A few questions please. Your thoughts on just installing the new element right on top of old one? Trim the existing end off that has wire and connector? How did you know it was your element verses a switch, connector etc. Were you tempted to replace the upper heater element with the seat removed and nicely dissembled? Thank you, I think I can pull this off.
@joelwallisadv
@joelwallisadv Год назад
I am not sure about installing the new element on top of the old. It wasn’t too difficult to remove the old element just took time and patience with the heat gun to avoid ripping more foam off. In theory it could work with laying the new element on top but the only thing I could see is you may or may not feel the two of them when you sit in the seat. Might be more firm in that area… For knowing it wasnt the switch, the back element still worked when turned on. Hope this helps! If you do the new element on top of the old and it works out feel free to leave a comment in case others don’t want to deal with the foam part 🙌

Thank you. It’s pretty easy and the trick is to go slow for removing the element and putting the hog pins in. Good luck on doing it on your 2014 🤘

Great video! Both of my seats have stopped heating and need to have the elements replaced, I've been reluctant since I thought it was going to be a nightmare, but this doesn't look too bad. The lights come on ( drivers side sometimes turns off quickly ) but the seats don't seem to get warm : /

I am actually dealing with almost the same issue now as my passenger headed seat is no longer working at all. I get the same where the light turns on and then turns off. Debating wether to replace the module or just change both elements on the passenger.

@@joelwallisadv I have the same problem in my Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. The dealer wanted $1800. Watching your video, I can see why. I just ordered a seat heading psd you plug in the cigarette lighter for winter. I'll probably tackle the heat element this summer. I'm assuming my seat is similar to yours. A very poor design and irritating to say the least. Thank you for the video, now I know what I'm looking at with the replacement.
@joelwallisadv
@joelwallisadv 8 месяцев назад
@@failingup4907 If you tackle it yourself make sure you get the latest version for the heated element that way it hopefully lasts longer. The install wasn't too bad. It is time consuming but if you take it slowly, you should have no issues with doing it yourself. You could also see if there are any car stereo places that do heated seats and they may be able to install a new element or an after market option for less then the dealer quoted you.

i wonder if we can upgrade the element, my heated seat light blinks and then turns off, i dont know what it means but it sucks being in canada and -50c with cold seats
@joelwallisadv
@joelwallisadv Год назад
I know that with my 2012 they have a new model number then the original that was in there but as far as the blinking it could still be a bad element or something else. I would do a google search to see if you can isolate what the problem before replacing things.
@spcjunk
@spcjunk Год назад
I'm having the same problem on my 2012, searches turn up either a bad module or the seat pad, with the pad being the most likely culprit, it seems that they short out. I wonder if the "updated" version has corrected this? While I would love to buy a new Jeep, I just can't afford one , so the JK is going to be well taken care of for years to come, and I love to go to the snow, those heated seats are a must!

Thanks. I've got a 2012 bottom heater element that is bad and it looks like sites are either out of stock and unavailable everywhere except for a few on ebay with a premium price tag. Has anyone happened to find a reliable source for the OEM part or non-oem brand that is reliable and works?

There are 2 total. One in the butt part of the seat and one for the back. If one fails you don’t need to replace both fyi
