Chad takes an inordinate amount of time replacing the hub bearings, adding hub locks, replacing rotors and brake pads, and fixing a window switch on the 1998 Mitsubishi Montero after the trip to Utah.

This is a good video for new Gen1-Gen 2.5 owners as I noticed many of them are a little intimidated with the work involved doing the brakes on these. Great video

@@MogsAndDogs All I had was the FSM and some self confidence when I did mine for the 1st time.😁 Hardest part for me was initial torquing for the bearings. I modified a locknut socket for a GM vehicle and it worked but not ideally. I went ahead and bought the actual Mitsubishi tool for future uses.

I think it would be helpful to either and the description of the window button fix to the video description or take it out of this video and make a whole other video completely for it. This video was very helpful and I think others would benefit from the window switch fix. Thanks for the video!

Just noticed you have the left rotor on the right and will be mindful of this when i do mine today lol. With the aisin hubs, if theres too much grease in the cap they wont lock/unlock sometimes

Hey man, great work! I am about to do the CV axles on my '95 Gen2.0 and there is A LOT of rattling going on in there. I am going to go ahead and replace the wheel bearing, race, race seal and that plate/shield behind my rotor is eaten away partially with rust. My calipers/pads and rotors are fine though. Do you mind sharing your parts list for this job?

41:35 you did 18 ft lb...right after you went to the next step. it seems you didn't back it off by 20-30 degrees? Per Service Manual that why you see the it dragging as you turned the rotor.

I just bought a '92 mighty max 4x4 and today was the first time I was able to look at the hubs with the wheel off. I realized replacing the brakes was going to be more complicated than average. Your video gave me a really good idea of what to expect. Did you notice a big difference with mileage after the manual lockers?
@MogsAndDogs
@MogsAndDogs Год назад
Right on. I saw maybe 1 mpg average improvement. A recent trip to Washington and back averaged 15 mpg.

Goodwork sir! Just want to ask. If I just want to replace the rotors, do I have to disassemble the hub system like you did or just take out the 6 bolts and nuts attaching the rotors to the hubs?
@MogsAndDogs
@MogsAndDogs Месяц назад
Thanks! It looks like you might be able to if you can get to the rotor bolts from the back. Maybe you could remove the rotor bolts and then hammer the rotor off. I do not know for sure though because I have only done this once as you saw in the video.

@@MogsAndDogs it seems like i should renew the bearing and the grease like you did. Might as well am I right? 🤣 question though. Where did you get the tool that you used to press the bearing shims and the gasket into the hub? Thank you sir!

This is a very detailed video, one that will help many new Montero owners. Great job. So you replaced the stock rotors for same size new rotors (15” wheels)? How much improvement did this made?
@MogsAndDogs
@MogsAndDogs Год назад
Thanks Paco. Yes, I still have the 15" wheels. I was not ready to invest in wheels, calipers, and tires. Sorry but I am not sure I notice any improvement. The truck stops well - past that I cannot tell a difference.

@MogsAndDogs

I only did the front. Not sure the rear is possible or why you would want that. If you want all four wheels disengaged you could just put it in neutral.

I know most vehicles this age might have seized or close to being seized caliper pistons so I would go ahead and replace the calipers as well, otherwise you might find your rotors keep warping.

I’m stuck at 6:55 I have all the rings off but the rotor and hub won’t come off. It’s loose but it won’t come off. Any ideas what might be holding it from coming off the way yours does ?
@MogsAndDogs
@MogsAndDogs 6 месяцев назад
Sorry, nothing I can think of - I think the bearings are the only thing holding it in place. Maybe it just needs some extra persuasion from the mallet?

I ended up having to get a 2 ton 3 jaw pull because the inner bearing was holding the hub and rotor from coming out. All is good though. My gen 2 Montero is running smooth as ever now! Thanks for the video it was very helpful!
