How to install a mower deck belt on a YTH 2246 Lawn Tractor. How to fix a uneven mower deck. • Uneven Cut? How to Rep... . How to replace the mower deck belt on a Husqvarna YTH 2246 Tractor.
Thank you. I was able to just pull the pulley covers off on either side. Clean all the grass underneath and replace the belt without taking the deck off. This helped me understand what I was looking at under there.
This is the most uplifting comment I've seen all week... because in about 30 minutes, I'll doing just that for my Husqvarna YTH22V46. So far, all the videos I've seen involves removing the deck. I was beginning to think it wasn't going to be possible to replace that belt without removing the deck. Now I have hope.
In my opinion, a good diy video is one that answers the questions that are not in a manual, PDF, or repair literature. They never tell you the tricks of the trade. Your video is awesome. Short, straight to the point, and answers the little questions that can make a job much easier. Don't you hate the diy videos where the guy is more concerned with making a blockbuster with a ten million word dialogue, Talkin' and talking and trying to be clever. OMG, it'll drive a man who only wants the data crazy. Thank you for keeping it professional and you're very good at describing the entire process. I especially appreciate the tool recommendations at the very beginning. Good job mate 👍👍
Hi Brad. Excellent video along with terrific tips. I was just talking to my wife about how RU-vid videos are 80% waste of time, 20% actual helpful instructions. Infuriates me when people put up a video then talk about everything except the task itself. Further, picture quality and sound are often terrible. Not so with your videos! They are absolutely pro quality. Your descriptions, speech, and actions should be featured in a video of "how to make an effective RU-vid video". Can't thank you enough for your professionalism and super helpful instructions!
Excellent video. I'm going to try to replace my belt without removing the deck, but your video gave me the information I needed just in case. Your comment on how to remove the cable detent was very helpful. Thank you very much
Nice job. This is one of the best DIY videos I've seen. After watching it though I decided to try threading a new belt without removing the mower deck. That was successful and only took 15 minutes!
I’m glad it was helpful and thank you for commenting. I always perform the job, so anybody who is non-mechanical should be able to perform the task. Yes there always many different ways to perform a job. I just try to make them so everybody will understand. Please give this video thumbs up subscribe if you haven’t already, and share my channel with your friends to help me grow! It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for watching.
You covered it ALL….even putting the butterfly clips back in properly. I followed it step by step successfully, and I’m not very mechanically inclined. Well Done! Thank you very much.
Hey, this was amazing! Broke my belt while mowing over the weekend and was worried this would be a few hundred dollars to fix (having someone else do it). You made this look immaculately simple, though. I'm 100% confident this is within my skill set and I'm going to knock it out this weekend! Absolutely fantastic video, thank you so much for making it.

Very understandable video. you explained everything so clearly that even a city slicker like me can understand it. i have the manual but this video is so much easier to understand.
you can absolutely replace the belt with deck on i have a 20k46 and i dont remove the deck to replace the belt, to each their own though ! great quality video
@@WrestlingDaze-mi5mu yes, he did. All you would need to do if you left the deck on would be to lower it all the way, remove the belt guards that are covering the spindles, remove the belt and install the new one then replace belt guards. The underneath of these mowers is fairly open and easy to get the belt routed.

I replaced those four 3/8" dust cover bolts with stainless sidewalk bolts cut to size and so glad I did. Now I can use either Phillips or standard screw drivers. BUT, the most important feature now is that THEY WON'T RUST and bond to the deck threads......

My AIRENS is exactly the same except for the hood, they wereade a couple years by Husqvarna, they quit making yard tractors for Airens, best yard tractor i ever had just turned 10 years old, 22 horse, Briggs going strong 🎉
Thank you for your informative video.. I never had a manual and the store that assembled my riding tractor gave me the wron product #. I never looked under the hood for the part# labels plus behind the battery. Thanks again!!!

great video as always. I love that you tell people to make sure you have the right part. I have an OLD hardware store near me. I have used any belt that was the same size on my old mower I had 15 years ago. It slipped off at times, and it was a real pain in the A. If I had bought the correct belt, I would have had less trouble, SO to everyone else get the right part always. Have a great day Mr. Johnson.
Hi Steve, correct, just as you have found out. Aftermarket belts can be more of a nuisance then it is worth. Get the correct belt and be done with it. I also have learned that the hard way. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

That was another great video, I used your video to remove the deck the first time. I'm just making sure I know all I can about the belt too. It seems the quality of the Husqvarna is a bit lacking. The complete bracket that holds the deck on broke off, the weld job was so bad they missed most of the bracket. Even if they would have gotten it the weld was cold! All repaired now and I have everything serviced and ready to put he deck back on.
I’m glad you are able to get the work done with a little help from my videos!Thank you for watching and commenting. I have welded many mower deck brackets. You are correct, all they needed to due was a little more welding and all would have been fine but they had to cut corners to save a dollar and this is what happens.
I sincerely want to thank you for this awesome video. I was going to bring my Southern States tractor to the dealer to replace the belt. It’s the same model as a Husquavarna. I watched the video and then played it for every step of the process. Some of the clips were a bear to get off but got it apart and followed every step. My only issue was putting on that back tensioner. I don’t recall you saying to raise the deck and I did and was able to get it on. My wife was like do you think it will work and I was like yes this nice man told me how to do this! I started the yard tractor and cut my whole yard which takes like an hour. Thank you a million times over. Can I send you a tip? Do you have a virtual tip jar? You are smarter with one hand than I am with 2 ! ~Rick
You’re very welcome. Thank you for sharing, watching my video and the very kind comment. Thanks a lot for this. Nice & clear. Will try this tomorrow on my CTH 184t. I doubt it's that much different. It just dropped the belt and I suspect the bars that keep the belt on the pulleys need adjusting.
Lol! Im glad it was helpful and you got the job done! Thank you for watching and the kind comment. Please give this video a like and share my channel to help it grow. It would be greatly appreciated!
I was able to replace the belt on my YTA33V46 by simply removing the pulley guard covers on both sides and dropping the deck all the way. I didn't have to remove the deck at all. It took me less than 15 minutes.

I followed your steps exactly. When reassembling I can't get the two black arms to line up back up with the frame. I unhooked the belt from pulley then attached the arms. Now I can't get the belt back on the front pulley.

I have been doing replacement belts for 50years. Good video, but now my blades won't turn Spring woks to engage, but no tension on belts. Any suggestions?
Thank you so much for the detailed instructions! We successfully changed the belt! Do you happen to have any tips on how to fix the engine surging? We have a new carburetor and air filter and the fuel filter is clean… and still no luck. We think it is the governor spring that won’t stay connected. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!!
Impossible to diagnose correctly without seeing an the machine. Surging normally means a lean condition, not getting enough gas. I would suggest finding out how fast the engine is going at full speed. It should only be around 3300 to 3600 rpms. If your engine is surging only at full speed but if you bring down the throttle a little is it still surging? If it is still surging at lower speeds and you purchased a aftermarket carburetor? That most likely is your issue. You could also have a gas cap vent not working properly or a blockage in the fuel line.

Awesome video. But can you help me? I have looked up my belt on line, got size and number, bought and it's too big. I have the YTH21K46. I have seen many say it's a 105 in belt. Some say .75 and some say .85. we bought the 105.85 because the numbers matched. But as I said it's too big. Do I need the 105.75 then? When I used the product number it gave me the same number for this belt which seems too loose when engaged. Thanks 😊
When I purchase a mower deck belt, I always use OEM original equipment manufacturer and if you are not using that belt, then that may be the problem. Other than that I have come across one machine in 30 years that I could not get the correct belt to fit as in your case it was too large, so I just came down in sizes until I found one that worked well, if you have that issue, then you may need to go down to the 105.75 but I do not go by inches I normally go go by part number and purchase the OEM belt.
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines I was actually trying to get the OEM, but my husband saw the pix I sent him for the right size vs part number and saw the name Husqvarna and just bought that one. Thanks for the reply.

I need your help. I have a ts 242xd. It has the electric blade engagement. I used your video and got the deck off, my belt was broken. I got the deck and belt back on but it’s too much tension to put it all back together. What am I missing??? It’s the correct belt.

Hi there. Amazing video but I have a Husqvarna YTH2246TDR that the new drive belt keeps coming off. Is there a tightened adjustment as says v be,t can’t be tightenEd in manual. Is there a way I can check it’s in the keepers without taking the who,e deck off, I’m 76 and want to avoid big charges to get someone ou. Thanks in anticipation
You will need to check to make sure you have the correct belt and all of your belt guides are in place. If the belt guides are all in place and all adjusted properly, the belt should not come off when you disengage the blades. If your blade belt is coming off when you are using the mower deck? you may have something else wrong with the mower deck or the person who installed it did not use the correct belt, installed incorrectly or the belt guide are either missing or not aligned correctly.
Thanks so much for your informative and well-produced segments! Question, please: I’ve replaced the left and right belt keepers on my YTH 18542, both which broke directly below the mounting bolt on separate occasions. I’m really puzzled by this, since my lot is flat, and I go pretty easy on the mower. It doesn’t seem like these belt keepers are under much general stress. Would you be willing to speculate on what might be causing them to fail? Thanks!
I have seen if the mower deck is adjusted to high, the mower deck will hit the guides and after time they will get weak and break from the mower deck hitting them constantly while driving. Or possibly the belt is running on the incorrect side and putting stress on them making them break but in that case the belt would also not last very long. I’m sure there are other ways that they brake, but I am not aware of them, normally I see them already broken and just replace.
Hi Michael, Thanks for watching and commenting. The video was only on how to install a mower deck belt. If your asking why the machine doesn't have two adjusters? They do not come with two. I did install one on this machine for the customer but this video was not about the adjuster. Not sure if I understood your question?
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines that question would probably be for the manufacturer. They know to level a deck would require one on each side. But ya you do explain the mechanics to fixing one is great.
Helpful video, thank you. I replaced the mower deck belt - still struggling that it does not engage even when installed correctly. I did find one of the belt guide posts broken off - I think it was the J bracket on the right hand side of the drive pully - not sure how essential that is or how to repair. I also wanted to suggest that the "nub" you refer to on the belt tensioner bracket is intended to make sure that the belt tensioner bracket is aligned correctly. On my mower, the bracket was installed so that the nub fit in the bracket slot and ensured correct alignment. Does that make sense to you?
Sounds like incorrect belt? I have seen the blade engagement cable bracket every way possible. Welded to the deck, the nub on inside, nub on outside, no nub at all. I have found, it does not matter how the bracket is sitting. If you have the correct OEM “original equipment manufacturer” belt and your blade engagement cable is in good condition, the mower deck is mounted correctly, it should work.
