Step by step instructions on removal and replacement of the mower deck on a Husqvarna YTH22V46 Yard Tractor. This procedure will work for all the YTH and YTA tractors. It is good to periodically remove and replace the mower deck so that you can clean the deck, replace the blades, replace the belt, inspect the deck for damage or maintenance needs, etc.

Thank you! I am a 63 years old woman, and I was able to take the deck off, clean the dead grass out, put a new belt on, and with the help of my 65 year old husband, get the deck back under the tractor and get the cotter pins back on. It works great now!

I was having a bad day on Monday, a large piece of cloth got caught up in the blades of my mower, and I had to take off the deck. I was quite stressed, but your video was very helpful. And it may sound odd, but your smile at the beginning of the video when you mentioned how easy it is to remove the deck, was actually kind of comforting. Thanks for posting this.

Good video. Straightforward, no b.s. Gets right to the point of disassembly/assembly. This is the way all "how to" videos ought to be done. Don't need to have 15 minutes about how the mower is bought or why the deck is coming off. Just gets down to it and gets it done. Easy peasy. Thanks.

Really great instructional video for changing the deck belt, and your camera angles for all the steps are EXCELLENTLY filmed. Thanks for sharing this with everyone, it's greatly appreciated by all! BTW-- Agreed that this tractor deck traps and holds way too much debris, hopefully Husqvarna engineers are addressing this issue.

@@dwcoffey Dennis, I have to agree...this video about the deck removal/install was direct to the point without all the garbage that others people have put out. I have a question for you though, in front of the deck you have the two anti-scalping wheels and brackets...my unit is missing the right one. Could I get you to take a look at yours and see if you can find any part numbers on yours? Thanks.

Thank you Dennis! The belt on mine just broke and after learning from you on another video how to change the oil I knew you would come through again! One thing though, I was surprised at all the build up of debris on your deck. After each use you may try lowering the deck and cleaning it with a leaf blower. I’ll even blow off the motor too and get all the dust off. Thanks again!
@dwcoffey

Hi Don, thanks for watching! I normally do take my leaf blower or the garden hose and clean off the deck when done cutting. As I recall, on this particular day, I had just cut a lot of property back in the woods and had a ton of stuff get blown onto the deck. Knowing I was going to remove the deck to change the belt, I didn't bother to clean it off until I had the deck out. Thank you sir, I appreciate your comments!

You made it look easy.mI looked at other videos of the same thing, and each had a broken weld as yours did. I bolted a piece of angle iron there, with some bolts through the bracket and into the deck because I was in a hurry one day. But now I will bite the bullet, take down the deck, clean it, and have it welded. Next project is the decl lever, the bushings need to be replaced, takes all my strength to move the lever. Can’t say the quality of their welds were so great, replaced the starter motor, and gas tank twice.

Well, after owning my new Husqvarna YTH22v46 for three years, the underside of the deck is like new again and I did decide to re-install the pulley guards. The guards are easy enough to remove to clean the deck. AND I also found that the deck was 3 1/2" side to side at the blade cutting edge, but, when I turned the blade to check front to back for levelness, I found 3 1/2" to the rear and 2 7/8" at the front on the cutting edge of the blade. I loosened the lock nut and turned the adjusting nut a few revolutions till I got 3 1/2" at the front to match the rear measurement. No wonder the grass didn't look like the cut I expected. I'm pleased now. I removed my 'black' colored blades that looked as worn as yours and I bought a couple pairs at Lowe's that are Orange and they appear to be heavier duty than the black ones and are the same Hi Lift style/shape as well. Thanks for all your help buddy!!!!
@dwcoffey
@dwcoffey 4 года назад
I'm so glad this helped! I agree, I've noticed that some of the aftermarket blades are thinner than others. I've had a set that was so thin, I couldn't get the bolts to fully tighten on them and had to put an extra washer on the bolt. I'm very careful now about checking blades before I buy them. Thanks again for watching!

Dennis, I have a Husqvarna YTA22V46 (I don't know what the 'A' vs. the "H" signify. I used your instructions to remove the desk today, and the result was excellent. I thought I must add a few things that others might find helpful. In the video, the left-rear and right-read connectors have cotter pins only, while on my machine they both had a thin silver washer in addition to the cotter pin. In the video, the left-front and right-front connectors have washers (fairly substantial black ones), while on my machine there were none. Having been given the heads-up by the video, I am sure I did not miss any washers. After pulling out the deck, I found the deck cluttered with debris, as you showed. I had been in the practice of blowing our the grass, leaves, etc. on the desk each time I used the machine. BIG mistake. The debris was fully packed in, to the extent that it took a long time to get it all out. The biggest problem was the protectors on top of the spindles. They were packed solid. I had to take these protectors off (it takes a T30 to do this) the deck and physically clean out the spindles. I replaced the blades at the same time. Your suggestion to use a 16mm instead of a 5/8" socket is a good one and worked much better. I could not have done this without your help, Dennis. Many thanks! You have more mechanical skill in your pinky finger than I do in my entire body. Your suggestion (I think in screen text only) to use this opportunity to to lub the steering apparatus while the deck is out was also a good one. Dave

Thanks you so much Dave!! I appreciate you watching and all this helpful info! The difference between the "A" and the "H" tractors is the type on transmissions....the "H" tractors are hydrostatic.

Dennis, once again thanks. I think some of my comments regarding the spindle covers may have influenced your recent video on the same subject. Hope so anyway. Your comments about using the time with the deck off as a good time to clean the desk were also helpful. But, I can I request one more thing? My engine compartment if filthy (the fact that I forgot to replace the dipstick for a few moments one time may have something to do with that). I have cleaned it the best I could with with heavy-duty paper towels, but often that just moves the muck around. I have been told not to spray water on the engine (even when it is cold) so as to avoid getting water into vulnerable electrical connects, to to mention circuit boards, etc. Could you do a video on cleaning the engine? Many thanks, Dave

I just use my leaf blower on the entire lawn mower after each mowing session. On occasion I'll take a damp cloth and wipe it down. To me using a water hose on a mower causes rust prematurely. I've had my Husqvarna for 5 years and no deck rust and still running the original deck belts. Great video on taking the deck off.

Thanks for posting this. Watched it yesterday, and today I removed and replaced my deck without any problems (it was time for new blades). Not my first mower deck removal, but the first time on my YTH22V46. It was nice to know what I was doing ahead of time, instead of trying to figure it out on my own. I'm sure that cable would've messed me up!

Hi Dennis: Just an *FYI NOTE:* In this video where you pull the hook end of the Blade Engagement Cable Spring out of the hole in that bracket (at 5:00 min.) ... that hole wore completely through that bracket on my mower. (Obviously the blades would no longer engage.) I did NOT replace the bracket, I just drilled another hole about the same size through the bracket and attached the spring through it. No problem since. My YTH2246 is 12 years old now (2007 model) and still going strong. :)
@dwcoffey
@dwcoffey 5 лет назад
Thank you very much for watching, Jim! That is a great tip too! I can see how that hole would eventually wear all the way through....drilling a new hole is much better than having to replace the whole piece! Thanks

Excellent video, Dennis. I had to take my mower deck off today because I had the exact same bracket break off of mine as yours. Hopefully it can be welded back together. Thanks for the great instructions. My owners manual does not explain how to release that clutch cable from the bracket on the mower deck. You demonstrated how to remove the cable easily. Thanks again!
