Thank you for showing the frustrating part, so I'm prepared before I try to replace my bulb, too. Most demonstratios don't show how things could or might go wrong, and you made me understand how to prevent problems. Good teacher!

That's so awesome to hear. These videos, simple as they may seem, take a lot of time to produce and make projects tske 5x longer, but it is my hope people find them useful and enjoy them. So, it means a lot to get that feedback. It really is nice to have the under kitchen cabinet light though, you almost forget how nice it is to have that little extra, or even use it as a night light. Thank you for your video! I had the same issue. What a horrible design! Bulb blew and manual doesn't tell you if it's a screw in or pop in bulb. Tried pulling... nothing happened. Started unscrewing and ended up with the darn bulb in my hand. I needed to use a tweezer, needle nose plier, mirror, and flashlight to change a darn bulb. Now I need a coffee!

@Steven Gross it sounds like it. I am not 100% on where it would be, probably involve removing the entire bottom bracket...but if you can get the map housing loose first I would check there. Mine still goes out after a few months...I myself have decide to go with LED next to hopefully reduce the draw and last longer I'm there...plus I am sure will be brighter too.**SK**

@@SKLIFEstyle Thxs 4 your response. I live in an apartment; this microwave is probably 2 years old....replaced a 'whole' bulb once ready. I'm thinking of getting with QVC...they have an LED rechargeable strip set for a very reasonable price...it has a removable adhesive the length of the LED strip. LESS STRESS for our overworked and under paid maintenance team...great team...but totally over worked!!!

I don't want to be one of "those" people who comment but here goes. The cover is actually intended to hang from the end opposite where the screw is taken out. Many types of lights have the "T" type hinge to hold the cover in place while the light is being changed.

Very helpful video. I have a problem you didn't mention: The screw was put in so tightly that I can't turn it. I have changed bulbs in microwaves before. It's not rocket science, but whirlpool put the light is in a very awkward position (much too far back) and makes a simple chore a real pain.

SK LIFEstyle>>>There is a big problem with this video. Instead of advising to turn off the microwave, you should advise viewers to UNPLUG COMPLETELY the microwave. DO NOT rely on a on/off switch. But I'm sure the video helped others out! Thanks!

I did mention right after to completely shut off power to that area for complete assurance..but I get just mentioning that first thing. It should say on the outgoing bulb, might help to put a piece of paper behind it to read it better. Or, the model and such of the microwave will be on the side of the inside of the door. Then you can look up by that via google/amazon.

Excellent. However, when I twisted the old appliance bulb to remove it, the cap / stem stayed in the socket. What is the best way to remove the cap from the socket?
@SKLIFEstyle
@SKLIFEstyle Год назад
I used a thin rubber glove or at least wrap your finger in like masking tape (Make sure to unplug the microwave first) and stick your finger in and turn. Fyi - You may actually turn clockwise since you could be facing the opposite direction the bulb is facing. You can do it bare handed but its thin metal, may not be cleanly rounded, the cap or the socket, so it could slice you if you aren't protected. Happy Friday! I still need help. The bulb was damaged and when I twisted it out looks like the metal has rusted around there or something. It won’t budge
@SKLIFEstyle
@SKLIFEstyle 7 месяцев назад
You can use some wd40 if needed, very small amount, couple drops on two sides. Be sure the unit is unplugged! Use a rubber glover if you can or thin towl for grip and protection and after letting the drops sit for 5 min try twisting it out. After that I would try some needle one pliers perhaps, grip one side and try to twist it out.
@SKLIFEstyle
@SKLIFEstyle 7 месяцев назад
Also be sure to use paper towels to dry off the wd40, very well and perhaps use a fan to dry it off for 10 minutes before attempting to place a bulb in and turning the light on.

@SKLIFEstyle
@SKLIFEstyle 2 года назад
I'm not an expert on electronics but sounds like the ballast (houseing the lamp connects with) is busted and sending too much juice. Assuming the bulbs are exact like for like, that's probably what finally blew it out..and what is causing them to continue to go now.**SK**

@@SKLIFEstyle idk, I did a little more research. Apparently when the glass of the bulb separates from the base some filaments can get crossed and short something else out in the circuit board called a triav or triad. These things have a diode in them. Perhaps the diode is stuck open letting way to much current thru. Idk though, I'm not that savvy with all that circuit board stuff.

@@arubaguy2733 microwave works fine without it. Is there something I should be worried about? I can do without the light so the rest functions fine.
@arubaguy2733
@arubaguy2733 Год назад
@@carcasscruncher9354 The light malfunction is unrelated to the cooking function of the unit. Go ahead and keep using it without the light, it's safe. Replacing the blown triac is not difficult if you can use simple hand tools and can solder. The triac only costs $0.99 and replacement takes 1/2 an hour start to finish. The design is much more complex and less robust than necessary. More complexity = more opportunity for failure. Perhaps intentional.

That sounds more electrical that having to do with the bulb. Idk if you can even really check fuses in one of these without pulling it out. Might be easier to go without the bulb rather than pay to replace the unit. I would try taking the bulb out, and then turn the light switch off, install with what you believe should be a light off scenario and see if that works.

UNPLUG THE MICROWAVE BEFORE YOU TAKE ANYTHING APART. This is just common sense. The "OFF" setting of the light DOES NOT remove all power. He's using metal scissors unsafely! You could get shocked or cause a short circuit that WILL damage the light electronics. If a short happens you may have to take the control panel out and replace a component called a "triac" to get the light to work correctly again. (or pay for a $150 service call) BE SAFE!
