So, I just changed all my calipers, rotors and pads and bled my fluid on my 09 Accord and all Ive ever done is change my own oil. Ive never even seen someone do brakes before besides on RU-vid. It went great and your video was extremely helpful to the whole process. Thank you so much!

Just an FYI, if you live in an area with road salt and long winters it is a good idea to add anti-seize to the mounting screws, if you choose to use them again. It really helps the next time you need to take them off.

I did as described last summer for the passenger side. Come this Saturday, I'll repeat this exercise for the driver's side. One thing I learned (yesterday) is that when you replace one side, you should replace the other as well. Do them in pairs. Don't wait a year like I did.

Great video, I'm tackling this next week on my '16 Accord. Honda wanted $470 to replace RR caliper because ebrake has siezed, then another $450 to replace rear brake pads and rotor. The front would be another $480. Over $1500 for brakes...no thanks. Bought all the parts for $250.

For first timers, rear brakes are different to front. Front brakes you can leave calipers on the rotors whereas, rear brakes, you have to take the entire caliper off. Keeping V strings on is a pain.

You'll also need the special tool to compress the caliper piston as it needs to rotate to compress. There is also a specific way that it aligns to the brake pad.

If I'm doing piston and caliper replacement on the driver side rear, so I need to bleed the caliper/piston on the passenger side first and then go to the other side? I've changed break pads many times and rotors once, but never had to replace caliper before.

No way in hell that those rotor screws came off that easily, 99% you will need a impact driver to knock them out and this is coming from a honda master tech here.

I just bought my son a 2008 Honda Accord, and during the test drive I noticed a slight wobble when braking, so I plan on changing all the pads and rotors. I do not want to hear about stuck rotor screws... I had a 2014 Camry with the rear rotor screws practically welded to the rotor. I even tried drilling those bad boys out, unsuccessfully. Just called it a day and took it to the shop for the guys to mess with it. They said they had to torch it off (heat it up before twisting it off I guess)

You guys sometimes do things that I find really questionable. For one thing, you can't clamp off old brake hoses. You will destroy the inner lining. It's far better and cleaner to simply insert a rubber port plug into the banjo end. An assortment of them can be found at any parts store for $5.

Great video. Helped immensely with my install. However, I’ve read elsewhere that the torque spec for the caliper slide pin bolts is 17 ft-lbs, not 10 as stated. Should I be worried about this falling apart? Also, some other comments say that we shouldn’t clamp the brake line hose. Did I damage it by doing this?

I've never seen or heard of someone spraying the friction side of the brake pad (or the pad at all) with brake cleaner. I've only sprayed the calipers to remove the oils used in shipping. I guess that's ok to do?..
@erickelley9888
@erickelley9888 3 года назад
the brake cleaner evaporates with no residue, it just helps dissolve oils and grease that could've gotten on the pads that could make them slick when you fist use them

Why do you tear out the slide pin boot at the same time as the slide pin? The pin is designed to hold the boot in place. If you remove the pin first, the boot comes out easily and is not destroyed. It can be used again many times if it is not cracked.

Just finish the job and realized I put the left caliper on the right side and the right on the left. Seems to be working fine. Does it matter which side I put the caliper on? The only difference I can see is the emergency brake is mounted on the top instead of the bottom
@mustangjoe8352
@mustangjoe8352 5 лет назад
You will have some trouble when it comes time to bleed the brakes if you ever need to do that your bleeder screw is now on the bottom instead of being on the top which will make it difficult
@mustangjoe8352
@mustangjoe8352 5 лет назад
I did the same thing and have to switch them back over because of that bleeder screw won’t bleed properly next time you need to
@genespleen
@genespleen 5 лет назад
This will mean that your bleed bolts will be towards the bottom of the caliper, rather than near the top. Bleeder bolts are always oriented at the top of the caliper, so that air can be bled. What you've done (and it's not an uncommon error) will make bleeding the brakes in the future unsuccessful, since it will not be possible to push entrapped air out of the caliper.

Do u have to bleed breaks after putting new break calibers on or is this something u wanted to do?
@daveclark8337
@daveclark8337 Год назад
You must bleed them. See how much brake fluid he drained out of the old caliper at the 8:45 mark? That much new fluid needs to be pushed back into the new caliper and you have to get the air out of the lines. Also, if your brakes are so old or neglected that calipers need to be replaced, the existing brake fluid is probably old and shot too, so you might as well flush it through until the fluid runs clear.
