Awesome I was afraid it was going to be a lot more complex but just buying a new hub is so much easier. Thanks for instilling some courage in me to do it myself!
Such a great video! I have a 30 year old gen 5 that needs some tlc. I believe it’s definitely time the wheel hub bearings get replaced. Thank you for this video.
This is a great video, thank you! I used this is as a guide to replace the wheel hub on my 93 Civic CX. The drum and hub took a bit to come off, but got it off fine. Didn't take more than 30 minutes to replace! Saved me a lot of money. Thanks again for making this video.
Well after replacing my front two wheel bearings the noise was still there than I tried the rear wheel bearing which was the easiest to replace... and it worked perfectly fine I wish I knew this from the beginning. All the money i wasted. Great video helps alot!
Thanks man I did mine today but a 30 min job became in a 3 1/5 hour job, the part of the hub assembly that seals the bearing got stuck in the spindle, me and my dad had to take the hole drum brake off to hammer the s**t out of it.
Awesome video mate, great angle to show what your doing, clear precise instructions, you should do a lot more videos for all the noobs out there like me
Thanks for the info. I'm about to do both of my rear hub assemblies on my 2000 Civic DX Hatchback 5 Speed. I'm not much of a car guy, but I'm certain I can do this. Plus, me doing the labor is much cheaper! I spent $141 on two Timken hub assemblies vs. $160+ to get one done at a shop!
Thanks Roygillin, Great job on the video ! Make some more ! LOL Doing mine today to see if it will quiet down new tires and it still is noisy, the old bearing doesn't seem bad but we'll see if the new ones make a difference. Thanks
I like your video because it also shows where all your springs go to do break pads...all the rear brake pads videos leave the hub in and you can't see where the springs attach to...would of took two seconds to take off too..
Nice camera work and description. Only comment is using compressed air and getting the brake dust airborne. Just spray brake clean with a pan underneath.
Just to reiterate, use brake parts cleaner so the dust doesn't get airborne. You must wait until your brakes have cooled down completely or you run the risk of creating Phosgene gas, will kill you.
Thanks for the great video roygilin, it helped very much. But I still have an issue. I had to take apart my driver side rear brake drum because, when the car was jacket up, with the parking brake off, the passenger side wheel spun freely, but the driver side wheel would have much resistance and only spin a few times before stopping. I took off the drum and got the wheel, basically, looking like it does in the video. But it still does not spin freely? What do you think could be causing this?
what if it is a front wheel drive civic same year. drum style in the rear. would you have to remove the whole knucke to remove the hub assembly? (doing the rear hub assembly?)
Hi there, thanks for the video. I have a question. I have a honda civic 2001. I remember changing the 2 rear hubs because they were making a rumbling noise (2years ago). The noise never went away on the left side, now is even louder. You think anything else could be wrong in there? You think is something with the Lower control arm. or Should I just change the wheel hub bearing again? Thanks for your time in advance.
A BETTER METHOD for getting that dust out is to use a shopvac so you don't breath all that nasty dust that I'm sure has something bad for your health in it! Or hose it down with some soapy water and rinse. Then air dry it lightly with compressed air / hair dryer etc.
I do have rear drums, Now, It can't be the front because that noise bothered me so much that I changed the 4 hub bearings then. But I didn't do it my friend did. I replaced all the breakes. But after replacing breaks, dics and drums..my emergency break wasn't working properly (meaning it doesn't break at all). 3 months after my pedal started bouncing a lot! so it must be that. I will replace disks, drums, breaks and the Left rear hub. I will take it to a professional and thank you for your time
I have a random question but when you removed the wheel hub assembly you know how there was 4 bolts that hold the backing plate to the car, can you remove the whole back plate/dust shield from the whole car with all the drum brake springs connected & assembled ??
Hate to sound stupid, but does the bearing in the hub come packed with grease already? I got the same civic and need to change my drivers rear wheel bearing
Got a question here...I have a 2002 Civic Ex coupe. I've noticed a noise that's been progressively louder for the last few months. Sounds like a train inside the car, and loud as hell, especially on the highway. I also get a metal to metal sound when I go over speedbumps. A mechanic said bearings and CV joints. Just looking for a second opinion here, thanks
I have a 99 ex sedan saids abs have drums in the back and need to replace the rear hub assembly I been ordering parts left and right and none of them fit !!!! How can I make sure it's the right rear assembly hub for my car???? Please help
If you can't get the drum off just take off the 32mm hub nut and slide the drum and hub off in one piece. You can then easily separate the hub/drum off the car on a workbench.
is the front the same way, because i call a few places and they told me that it was gonna take them about 3 to 4 hour of work so that why i was i got a 97 civci so yehh..
