Thanks Brother, made replacing it fairly easy... little tricky with double wrench but worked and i ended up putting spring clamp on crank pulley to hold belt in place while looping it up, really appreciate no drama, no meaningless distracting music, focused presentation, thanks again, car runs beautifully.

Thanks for the great video. One thing I noticed is that the belt size listed is 7PK1742. I believe the correct size is 7PK1755 which would be just slightly longer and maybe just a bit easier to install. Another thought I had was that the belt and power steering fluid could be changed at the same intervals. When flushing the power steering fluid, the system is drained, meaning you could then just remove the reservoir altogether. Get two jobs done at once and make the belt job a little easier.
@VinnieT
@VinnieT Год назад
Thank you for the support, and yes that's a good idea, knock out two jobs at the same time. The belt I installed was what I found to be the OEM size, and so far so good. Everything seems to be running very smoothly still.

Advanced Auto gave me 7PK1745 and I couldn't get it on. Admittedly, this isn't my regular gig, so someone with more skill probably could have made it work. Anyway, the 7PK1755 went on with little trouble--thanks!

The belt layout has been changed to reduce the alternator pulley load as a high load on the alternator pulley causes premature wear of the pulley bearing, resulting in a whirring noise or clicking from the engine which increases with engine speed. This might be the reason for the size difference

Video was a life saver! Thank you for posting. Found while I was working that a 1/2in breaker bar will fit snugly into the open side of the 14mm wrench , it was very easy to get the leverage on the tensioner that way

@JSICycles
@JSICycles 20 дней назад
After a lot of cussing the tools that worked for me was a combination of a 14mm box end wrench on the tensioner held up as straight as possible and my biggest of the two 1/2 inch torque wrenches I have that fits right into the open end of the 14mm wrench. Torque wrenches tend to have a flatter head. Then I could ratchet the torque wrench to a spot that gave me the longest throw to really get that tensioner to its loosest position. Take off your front right tire to give much easier access and bungee the reservoir back towards the right side hood hinge too

Another tip if you're still struggling to get it on fully is to rotate the crankshaft by hand with a 17mm socket. You have to get it on most of the way first. And rotate the crankshaft clockwise. Don't rotate it counter-clockwise as it could mess with the timing chain. In my situation I was finishing up a timing chain job and struggled with getting the drive belt fully on. I managed to get it most of the way, but just needed more leverage. Instead I rotated the crankshaft to get it all the way on and then double checked that the belt was fully seated correctly and running in the correct path.

Thank you. I struggled getting the belt into position while also working the tensioner- there wasn't enough space- but it would have been easier with a helper. I ended up doing the two box wrench method from the bottom- with the car jacked up- and it was much easier to lift the belt over the bottom pulleys. I then worked the tensioner from the top because the belt wasn't fully on the PS pump pulley.

Hello and thank you for watching my video! I am not sure exactly but I have been reading some comments of people saying they’re are other belts that are very similar in size, some slightly bigger but that will go on easier. The 2007 crv may have a different size belt. When selecting on Amazon just make sure your YMM of your car is correct, and usually you will be able to find the correct belt.

Hi, just to clarify as I am unsure, but when looking for belt most places recommend the K070690 Gates.. would a smaller belt not cause issues with being too tight?
@VinnieT
@VinnieT Год назад
I am sure a smaller belt will also work, the car is equipped with an auto tensioner, so the tension is kept automatically through that auto tensioner pulley. It may be more difficult to get the new belt on the vehicle if it’s smaller but it should operate as normal. I would have to see a size comparison side by side to really see how much smaller that other belt is.

No the belt should not snap off normally. But if you haven't changed the belt in 165k miles then I wouldn't be surprised if it snapped off.
@davecullen5986
@davecullen5986 4 месяца назад
Surely youre pulling the spanner the wrong direction? Or is it not the centre of the tension pulley youre pulling towards you
@VinnieT
@VinnieT 4 месяца назад
No you can only pull the wrenches in one direction which is towards the front of the vehicle, the tensioner pulley would not go the other way. If you pull the wrenches towards the back of the vehicle then you risk loosening the bolt that holds the tensioner pulley on.

Hi! Great video. I kept getting a noise when i select “max AC” and the belt keeps slipping off one or two groves to the left. Before that, it was squeaking and I out just a touch of wd40. I saw it slip off one grove, but after putting two new belts in it keeps slipping off enough for it to rip against metal. What could it be? My mechanic maintains that the water pump doesn’t look bad, but it obviously doesn’t make any noise when I take it to him.
@VinnieT
@VinnieT Год назад
There could potentially be a bent pulley, Also you want to make sure that the pulleys are clean of all debris and are dry of any lubricants. Another thing it could be would be the auto tensioner going bad, which would mean it’s not keeping enough tension on the belt, which then causes it to slip off.

@@VinnieT im thinking it’s residue of that wd-40 because it wasn’t slipping before that, just squeaking. My mechanic says all the pulleys and lever are good, hence the confusion. Thank you!

@@badass_seabass great and did he mention anything about the auto tensioner going bad possibly? Please let me know if you guys fixed it and what the issue was! Thanks

@@VinnieT we replaced the tensioner yesterday and, after two ruined belts (for which Auto Zone honored the warranty, thank God) it looks like that was it! Haven’t had any issues today.

Would this help on a 2012?

The process may be similar but you will need to look up the belt diagram to ensure you install the belt in the correct orientation.

Do these belts pop off pretty frequently? If so...what's the average milage?
@hellagrant
@hellagrant Год назад
The OEM belts last a really long time. Usually people change it before there is a problem, so it is hard to say how long it would last. Mine is at 150k miles, OEM belt. It still looks fine but it really should be changed by now so I will be doing that. Probably OEM belt, I think it was only $30 more than the well known aftermarket belts.

The belts do usually last a long time. Not sure what the average mileage would be but I use these belts on a lot of cars I've fixed and never had any issues. These Gates belts are top notch belts IMO. They make great Serpentine Belts, as well as timing belts. Haven't ever had one of these pop off. Also if your belts are popping off, then make sure its routed correctly and that you have no bent/damaged pulleys.

That smooth back belt may cause chirping sound. Does it happen with yours?
@VinnieT
@VinnieT Год назад
No mine does not chirp, but if yours is then it could be the belt tension going bad, or your belt may need to be replaced.

I cannot get the belt back on the last pulley. Does anyone have any tricks?
@VinnieT
@VinnieT Год назад
Depends on the tools you have, it’s always easier with that special belt tool, it has a long handle and in angled correctly to get the best pull/tension on the tensioner pulley. You really gotta pull it back as far as you can and that will give you enough slack on the belt to get it back on.

You could have a bent pully.

Hi, I wonder which year is your crv belong to? Cause I search the belt for my 09 crv on Gates website giving me the model of K070690, which is a 1767mm belt. Perhaps there are differences in the middle of the 3rd gen CRV era?
