how to replace the shell on a Honda Accord remote key fob. this is for the Honda Accord 2003-2007 models. this includes swapping the chip also from the OEM remote to the new aftermarket key fob shell.
Your video saved me $165.00 dollars, the price local locksmiths were asking, after my Honda Pilot key fob was damaged. I brought the replacement fob from Amazon for a mere $6.75, then watched your video and had the re-fobbed key working in 5 minutes after the time it took to watch your video.
I thought I could replace the shell, but your video helped me to KNOW I could. I was going to return these, as the Amazon ad deceptively made it sound like it had a chip slot (“Replacement for 4 Button Honda Remote Key Shell - with Chip Holder”), but 2-sided plastic carpet tape worked fine. The only frustration was in cutting the key blade out of the old shell: It was just tedious. Saved $250 from dealer quote (May 2024). $10 for 2 shells plus my labor. Thank you!
Thanks! This is the most detailed instructional video for my 2007 Accord with the transponder. Helped confirm that would need to destroy the old case in order to get to the transponder.
Transponder would be on the car. I think you mean the transmitter. But I knew what you meant. These companies rob people. Image spending hundreds of dollars for a device that is cheaper then a universal tv remote. Disgusting.
Thank you so much for the help and tutorial in getting this project done. I was able to successfully change out two of my Honda car keys, which were broken, and it saved me a fair amount of money by following your video. All it cost me was $10...parts were purchased from Amazon.
Thank you so much man! I just bought a case from AliExpress. But was confused with the small black chip.. took it off.. put a double sided tape as you mentioned. Cleaned the remote and button with small smooth paint brush, installed on new case shell. All went smoothly, even the sticker was ease with heat gun. I heated the back of the sticker, stick on the new one. Now the key looks like new 👍and solid.
I also recommend cleaning they key itself (metal, teeth) from dirt and old residue and lubricate it with silicone spray & wipe the excess. To reduce stress on plastic, make it last longer.. by making the key slide in & out easier and smoother. Good idea too to lubricate car door looks with Q20 or silicone spray.
bought one of these kits off of eBay. worked for the most part but the screw they included was too long. So I may need to source a slightly shorter one. It enough to go through and then pushes the two pieces of the key apart
No good. If you have to get another remote, you will have to have it professionally programmed. Its better if they supply the remote, in case you have issues, they have to deal with it
I am quite surprised that the heatgun is not used for dissasembling the case with heavy glue work. Any particular reason ? Is it to protect the pcb inside ?
These dont have blank keys. If your has a blank key, you have to have it keyed. I don’t believe those keys come out. Its not the same as an original key, that you can swap over to a new case
I had this same problem. Try using needle nose pliers. I was able to break the plastic off from around the key, Once the plastic is gone the screw sticks out enough I was able to clap down on the screw with pliers and twisting it till it came out. You've probably already fixed yours, hopefully this might help someone else in the future.
I have a 2007 Honda Accord Sedan EX-L. Bought it used. The guy I bought it from had only 1 key. After a year, the battery died. I continued to use the key to enter and start the car just fine. I eventually took it apart to get a new battery. and used (just the key) the side without the chip...to enter and start the car. So the RFID/Microchip wasn't needed. Idk if it's just my car, but I wonder of anyone has ever tried it. Honda wants like $300, online an "unprogrammed" one cost $85...with then you need to bring it o Honda or a locksmith. The locksmith told me $110 if I needed it duplicated if I didn't have a "blank" replacement key. I told him I just wanted a laser cut part of the key. After insisting I don't need it programed he told me $40 for just the laser cut. I think the older version of cars that still have an actual key, some may not need that "chip".
@@raiderman28 I have a V-Tech V6. I wonder if anyone has actually tried without the chip, just like I had done. My car key has a chip. I left it home and drove to get a new battery (several miles away from chip) And it is not needed (on my car at least) regardless of what Honda or 2 locksmiths that I went to said. Maybe it's possible a fuse for that system went and therefore made the chip null and void? I also notice the 1 key was not an original Honda key as they have their logos on them. I didn't realized that until I watched your video. Also the guy I bought the car from put a rubber Honda logo cover over it. Maybe if someone disconnects the alarm system you can override the chip function?
@@chrismccabe1795 its basically a resistance ring on the ignition. In some cases if the vehicle has or had remote start, they install a bypass module, and a extra key ( old version) , but nit sure if they have come out with anything else, since i had stopped installing remote starts years ago.
