Thank you! This is the best video out there for how to replace the lock and corner pieces on an aluminum storm window. Good close up pics and clear instruction. My repair was a success!
It seems when I need to see it , it appears in my feed. I noticed the corners didn’t seat tightly. I saw the light coming through the 45 degree areas. Any suggestions? Also I have a window frame that became rickety after the glass was out. Can the dimples be punched bigger or harder in some way? Respectfully
Well this video is very old so this is probably a long shot….but how do you measure to know what size slide bolts you need without taking it apart first? I don’t have any of the original info for the door and there’s nothing on there anymore with a manufacture name or anything
What is the part numbers for the corner key set, and the bolts? I bought PL 4 corner set, but had to file them down to fit my frame. The bolts I repaired old ones by jbwelding in a piece of steel to the bolt, the ends of the bold had bent and sheared off. What I bought is Prime-Line Products T 8689 Tilt Key and Corner Key Set, Diecast,(Pack of 4), Comes with 2 of the PL 15226 As Well as 2 of the PL 15102
So if I wanted to build a window exactly like this from scratch (our new house is missing one panel) what frame would I purchase? There seems to be a dozen choices. Or is there a kit available that has all of the necessary parts such as latches, tilt keys, gallery, ect?
Can you make some custom storm window inserts for me. I am missing a few. Local places say they are too big for their stock material inventory (they take apart old ones and refurbish them). My missing storm insert is roughly 46"×33" I have 2 windows one side is missing the insert. I swapped the inserts to make sure they were the same size. So I got the measurements off an actual existing piece. I dont need the glass inserted someone local can do that. I just need the frame made with the slide locks. I can put the frame together when it arrives.
I'm confused about the using the nail set to relock the corner keys. I thought the indents were drilled out in order to remove the key, so what material remains that the nail set pushes into the key?
There's still some material around the edges of the hole. If you're worried about it coming apart, you can also use a small pointed punch, and punch down right next to the old holes.
@@PrimeLineHowTo - I had the same concern bil expressed. I like your suggestion. I am also guessing you could make another dimple in Corner Key and then use the nail set (or similar) to place a new dimple in the frame (in the corresponding location)
Very nice video. Unfortunately, I had already trusted a local home supplier to fix my windows and they drilled out the dimples with too large a drill. They squeezed the frame with pliers to hold them together, and the frames have now fallen apart. They ruined my frames. So how do I hold them together now?
You can use epoxy glue, or use PL Premium polyurethane construction adhesive. If you use glue, make sure the glass is in the frame as that will keep the frame squared up. Cause after its cured, it wont move. I suggest PL as it likely could still be banged apart. Or an epoxy that melts if you lightly heat it, dont JB weld the frames corners in as heat wont soften that epoxy.
Just in case you or anyone still monitors this vid can I get replacement channels that the window slides up and down in?? All I get when I search is upper and lower slide parts for horizontal sliding screen and patio doors. The slide bolts are fine but the small cutouts in the channels are really chewed up and the window constantly falls down when the door gets closed.
You just want to drill far enough that you break through the layer of the frame. This removes the indentation and will allow you to pull the frame apart. We sell 41 different kinds of window frame. You can see what we have here. www.primeline.net/product-categories/window-and-screen-repair/window-frame#/pagesize=36&orderby=5
That would depend on which frame you use. We have even more different types of glazing channel. www.primeline.net/product-categories/window-and-screen-repair/glazing-channel#/pagesize=36&orderby=5
I'm going to replace slide bolts and pivot corners ( ? ) or whatever theyre called,, but my windows don't have the punched indents to drill out,, would I just tap them out anyway or would they be held in place with an internal notch?
I can't believe I put back my storm door the wrong way, now the lock facing outside and I have screen protector and can't open the sliders without tear my screen!
This is probably much easier on shiny brand new windows. Mine are at least thirty or forty years old and they aren't coming apart as easy. Most of the pivot points break off if you blow on them, if they weren't broken already. I think I know why some of these storm window companies went out of business. If you are averse to using profanity you may want to pay someone else to put new windows in.
