@mengel420

Normally, I absolutely love your videos, and this is no exception. However, he did not need to cut that plastic piece out of the linkages. He could’ve just hit it slightly on top with a hammer and push the whole bolts for the sway bar link out of the bottom. That’s how I do it all the time. It just pops right out of the bottom and falls apart with the bushings and caps (or plastic spacer - in this case). However, I am glad that he had an opportunity to diagnose and rectify a seized sway bar link and spacer - which is GM stock OEM. It might be good, if people have that stock plastic spacer on their swaybar linkage that they coat that middle section of the bolt with some anti-seize before putting it back on and maybe try to coat the inside hole for the sway bar to prevent further rust/impedance. That is...as long as the anti-seize doesn’t get EVERYWHERE lol 😂

A reciprocating saw with a metal blade cutting the bolt off about halfway and then hammering it through works great other than struggling so much with that plastic spacer

I dont even waste my time trying to remove those with ratchets and wrenches, I go straight for my angle grinder with safety guard removed and a cut off disc big enough to get where I need to cut and whoolah, time to put the new link on!

Try pumping grease into the zerks located at each bushing on each side of the truck. Also, when assembling the end links, wipe a little grease onto each bushing prevent squeeking. The brake wear indicators may also be the cause, so check your pad thickness when you pull the wheel off.

Honest question, is it necessary to torque it down to 17lbs?
@bucketofsteam9260
@bucketofsteam9260 Год назад
I know this comment question is old, but yes it is a good idea. If you don't have a torque wrench, or even if you do, pay attention to the 4 bushings when they start to get squeezed. You DONT want them to look like pancakes. Just a moderate amount of pressure on them is OK. The point of the sway bar links is to connect both sides of the front suspension. There needs to be some play and ability for those bushings to adjust as necessary while driving. If you don't compress the bushings at all, the link doesn't really serve a purpose. It would basically just be a rod that goes from the sway bar to the lower control arm, not giving any resistance to the sway bar itself to limit excessive vehicle roll around corners, etc. Sorry for the long response. Hope this helps someone. The torque spec is usually around or right on the money when it comes to how much compression is needed. Depending on the type of rubber and shape of the bushings, there could also be different torque amounts as the aftermarket bushings could be make out of a denser material. When buying, go for a poly instead of just regular rubber bushings if possible.
