Hey there, can you please let me know where on the print head that you cleaned, and what you used? I'm curious to know if isopropyl alcohol would work. Also, the one rectangular and one square section where the ink comes out onto the paper - did you clean that with a qtip as well? Thanks.
Just had the same problem with my MX922 and was able to get the head out, cleaned it and now the code is gone and the printer is working great. One thing that I wanted to add is that to take it out there are a couple of copper clips holding the head at the back. I had to pry those with a couple of small screw drivers to be able to get the head out. Same when putting it back in. For the head to be seated properly, those two copper clips have to be on top of the head, otherwise the head is not going to work. Thanks so much for posting this.
Like others, THANK YOU for posting this easy to follow video. My Canon Pixma MX 922 was printing but the pages were coming out BLANK. There was no error code. I thought for sure I'd have to get a new printer = $300-400. As shown in this video, I took out the print head, which was super easy. Used Q-tips, alcohol and alcohol swabs to clean the lower part (flat nozzles) where ink was coagulated. Did not use any water or any other cleaner. After thorough cleaning, reinstalled it, which was very easy also. There is a guiding track for sliding in the print head. Snapped back the part with the color labels on it. Put the ink cartridges back and voila, the printer started printing again. Thanks again!
Ultimately mine was a simple fix. I put the print head in a sauce pan, making sure that the head side and the circuit side was NOT down in the hottest part of the pan. Then I simmered it for about 20 minutes, the set it on a paper town head side down on the towel for 24 hours. This will completely clear and clean any hardened ink. SHAZAM! It cleared the error and is printing almost like new.

Thank you so much. I removed ink cartridges, and cleaned heads with hand sanitizer. Didn't even remove the print head. I replaced cartridges and plugged printer back in. Turned it on, and error message is gone. I am using cheap print cartridges too, and I will never buy them again. Thank you for your vide. It was extremely helpful!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! i cleaned my print head with hand sanitizer and q tips like you said to and removed a lot of ink. The only problem was when I reinstalled the clean print head then turned my computer back on the code came back and my printer still would not work. I found another video that showed me how to "reset" the code (by setting the print head/ink cartridge holder in the middle -like where it was when we removed the printhead, then keeping the print head door open until the print head, after being on the right for awhile, started to come back to the left then immediately closing the door). Anyway, they sure don't make it easy but thanks to you my printer is back in action!!!

Very helpful. I watched a different video and couldn’t get the printer head out. This one was very helpful to at least get it out of the printer. I will try distilled water as a cleaning solution.
Thanks goodness I found this that is like my 722 model. The front does not fold down like yours, but when I center the print head in the opening I could pull out the spring loaded front part. But I could not lift out the printhead with two fingers like you did. I had to use needle nose pliers on the top center tab to pull towards the top and to the front. At this point I had to re-grip the tab to pull straight out towards me to get it out. Thanks for showing us this method that worked on my model. Now I need to clean out the large black opening that is clogged.
Thank You! I did clean the heads with hand sanitizer and q-tips, but still got an error message. I ended up removing the printer head and running it under warm water until no ink streamed from it. After reinserting, the printer only printed pink hues. So I next: Right clicked on the Printer Icon, went to Printer Properties, Maintenance, and clicked on Deep Cleaning. After the Printer performed this, I printed out the page it offered. All colors printed. I have printed great photos since then. Yay!
When you ran the printer head under warm water, what parts of the print head did you get wet? Just curious if the electronic parts were wet too and then dried off, and it still worked. Or you were very specific as to where the water was put? Would really appreciate hearing back from you. Thank you.
@@LEKOVISION I admit I was frustrated and just let the water stream over the whole printer head. Dried off, and let it air dry for a time. (I have read You should not let those parts get wet, when doing other reading.) BUT because the color wasn't right after I returned the printer head to its right place again, I did the maintenance and deep cleaning. Printed the "print check pattern," and it worked fine. I have had to use the maintenance "deep cleaning" again, two different times, when the color came out funny on a photo, but never physically had to clean the heads again. And the printed check pattern came out fine. Prints great. Hope this helps. :)
@@pattylinsley9922 I just cleaned the print head and had it soak for a good 8 hours or so, then dried it for another 8 hours. I put it back in, and printed the Print Check pattern" and the PGPK line had some missing sections in it, so i performed a clean nozzle. printed the check pattern, and it got a bit better, but still not how it should be. Did the clean nozzle again. Printed the check pattern, and it got worse! Much less was printed than should have been. I then did a deep clean and printed again, and it was still screwed up with missing sections not being printed. I did another deep clean, and printed it again, and this time the PGPK line was pretty much not there. Only small traces of it was there. Something is VERY wrong with my printer. I'd upload the pics to show you, but don't think i can here. Do you know of any good forum i could try get some help from? I'm ready to pull my hair out!!!
@@LEKOVISION Gosh, keep Your hair! LOL. Are Your ink cartridges newish? The PgPK? You can order a new print head, on Amazon, but they cost a bit. Part #QY6-0086. They seem to have discontinued this printer model. Ironically, before I fixed this one, I found a last model left, advertised at My local Office Max for $60. I immediately drove over and bought it! I wish You the Best of Luck!
Great tutorial! I used cotton swaps with Purell to clean the print head and the B200 error went away. Saved big money as the price of the MX922 has gone way up!

Thank you! Worked for me after using crappy Chinese refillables. Gave me the courage to pull the head out and clean it (with rubbing alcohol). After cleaning, watch position of the head, carefully feed it back into the bottom slot- slides right in (don't force).
This worked for me! Thank you! I tried gently cleaning it with swabs initially and that got me no where, then ran it under the tap (I know it's bad, but eh) with hot water for about 20 minutes, cleaned it all up, dried it out. It didn't work initially and I repeated this process numerous times but what I think finally did it was after I cleaned it. I began to power it back on with the ink carriage in the middle with the top cover open then when it began to move was to close it again. I then opted to scan something - took about 10 minutes for it to actually do it the first time but once it printed it looked perfect! I then ran all the cleaning options and it is as good as new!
Great video and detailed instructions but I don't advise using hand sanitizer to clean the printer head as it contains other additives that may cause clogging due to residue. It's better to use rubbing alcohol/isopropyl alcohol that doesn't contain additives
Thank you very much for the reply, actually finally i have succeeded in getting the print head and clean it. I found it was full of ink and that is because i used the cheap Chineese jet ink cartiledge. I am waiting for it to dry up because i used the hand sensitizer and i hope it will eventually work. I had B200 error code a month ago. I tried to turn off then on couple times, did a cleaning and got it to work. This time, the problem persisted. I took the head out, dip into warm RO water multiple times and flushed until water was perfectly clear. Put it back with old cartridges and tried to do a head cleaning. Same B200 code. kept trying 3-4 times, same code again. I guessed I need a new head or printer. Almost hit a buy button but then I tried a manual B&W copy, and it worked. Then I start to do color print, it worked. Then I did nozzle check and cleaned 3 more times. It is still not perfect but getting better. At least I don't have to buy a new head right away. Will see.
Removed the print head and there was ink leakage, wiped using the q-tips and sanitizer and re-installed the head. Voila! no more B200 error. Be careful not to touch electronic components. Looks like issues arouse because of 1. cheap ink and 2. ink seepage during house move. Anyways issue resolved for now, saved $70 bucks for new print head. i would recommend laser printers though.
Thanks. This is a good video of how to remove the print head. I used denatured alcohol and a lint free cloth to clean the heads and also the ribbon cable. It had BLK ink on it, probably causing the B200 error.
This worked for me just now! I used 50% rubbing alcohol and Q-tips. There was tons of accumulated ink on the bottom of the head. I had an MX922 that is about 2 years old. I also poured the rubbing alcohol through the bottom, and dabbed with paper towels

I cleaned my print head (same model printer) under warm running water until no more color came out, shook it gently until no more water came out, dried the outside, and reinstalled. Worked perfectly! (I know, I know, you're not supposed to use tap water because of the minerals. Whatever.) :-)
It worked for me. I was wondering if you know how to clean and/or change Canon MX922 ink absorber pads. I was not able to find a video with this info. Tks again.
Thanks for the positive feedback: Unfortunately I'm not a Canon tech guy and that's the only thing a know. I was able to remove the head, cleaned in distilled water, and put it back, but never worked. I got some tips from a German site, but not how to clean absorber pad, sorry.

Looking at the price of this printhead for mx922 from 65-72 USD, I recommend buying a whole new printer again if this operation of cleaning the printhead is not solving the problem. Why is it so expensive?! Canon is falling deeper and deeper. Thank you for the video.
Thanks - exactly this happend to me now, but at least MX922 price drops to around $70 from time to time and there are super cheap ink-jet cartridges with good quality available online and so you can save lots of money with this printer.
At the moment I am looking for pixma MG5750 (offers good photo quality, double side copying, scanner, wifi and cloud / no fax ), for lower price it offers a lot and good reviews. Also as you say cheap ink-jet cartridges and after up to 2 years, you buy a new series with more features (who knows what more will come in 2 years), so I don't recommend to buy the same series again hehe. Also worth mentioning canon ts5150.

I have a Canon Pixma 922 printer that will not turn on. I've tried a brand new power supply to no avail. I was wondering if you know of any documents , web pages, or videos that would help me get at the logic board. I guess I'll start taking the printer apart. I will also need to test the supplies which some say, is hard to do, probably not. I just need to use some load resistors or something to emulate the printer. But now I think it's the logic board. Nice video for the print head - I assume that this saves on ink - to clean the print head this way?
Thanks ... oh, never thought about that ... saving ink. My printer was just not printing and I tried to solve it with cleaning the head. Some ppl are successful and some not - as I. So I ended up with buying a whole new printer and disposing the rest (means everything - except the head - means exactly what you probably need now ... what a shame ...).
Yeah, I mentioned cleaning the head your way as I just did it on an Epson Workforce 600, and after five nozzle cleanings, the printer prints great, only problem is, the brand new black ink and brand new cyan ink were down to like 20% already. Takes a lot of ink apparently to clean the nozzles. Not sure why.
Finished up injecting distilled water and 90 percent alcohol in the ink head buds. Still gets the same error even after soaking and drying. Still, one of the best videos on this matter on RU-vid. Congrats. Until finding u I wanted to throw my Canon out the window. Stupid, expensive, ink eating piece of crap

Thanks, I tried this, it cleared the code, but came back when I tried printing a test page, I did it again and it cleared the code and now I will just use as a scanner.
Failure symptoms were incorrect color balance - particularly red and blue. Cleaned two bottom 'grills' with methylated ethyl alcohol using cotton buds and it worked beautifully. Would never have been able to try this without your instructions on head removal. If symptoms return I'm thinking of ultrasonic cleaning whilst immersed in methylated ethyl alcohol. Any comments anyone?
I have the same problem that is error B200 and i have tried to follow the video exactly but i could not get the print head out, i do not know may be it is stuck. I even tried to use some tools and i was very careful because all the parts are plastic and because of that i did not use excessive force. Now what shall i do? Can i use a cleaning spray while the print head in its place? May be i end up with bigger problem and lose the printer. Please advise
Doesn't look too good. If you use too much force you will 99% break it and if you use cleaner inside ... guess what ... you will break it too. My first recommendation is to get somebody else (e.g. a tech savvy person) to try it. Sometimes we are stuck in making same mistake over and over and with another person it is very likely to succeed. But maybe it's really stuck and can't be removed and then you will end up having to buy a new one (happened to me). I obviously have helped hundreds of ppl here, but couldn't help myself ... hahaha. So I just bought same printer again, but it was only $60, but now it's $200 and not worth to buy. If same thing happened again to me, I just bought a cheap one from another brand where you get cheap cartridges as well like with the "Brother Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer, MFC-J491DW": amzn.to/2xmIw8k. This doesn't look too bad for me ... Good luck anyway!
Don’t Pull the Power! Don’t move the Print Head with your hand! Open the upper ink access door and let printer do its thing. When it’s done the print head will be centered in the front opening. But not really. With the machine still on, press the “Stop/🔺button and hold it down, the cartridge will move back and forth a couple of times and finally center properly. Now let go of the Stop button. The print head is now properly centered for removal. No need to move it with your hand. All rest is pretty much as described in the video. Although, your ink carts should be lit and easy to remove. Then continue with the video . . . Push the front bar with the colors on it back in and it will startlingly lock the head into place. This is the “ONLY” way to properly “seat” the head which is a big deal! Replace the ink carts, close the bottom CD Print door completely, then upper door and then hold your breath!
Just discovered why I couldn't get it back in. The part with the color ink labels had clicked back into place. Once I pulled that back out I could get the printer head installed again.
One should never touch or move the print head assembly by hand. Instead, hold down the Stop button until the assembly moves to the print head replacement position. Otherwise, a good video.
question: we still were not able to find where our paper was jammed. The video was very educational. But we still need help to find where the jammed paper might be.
Thanks and sorry to hear. Never had jammed paper, which I haven't been able to remove. You can open a lot of the lid ... not everything, but really a lot and usually it helps. If you can't see anything, it's maybe rather a sensor error than a paper jam.
left out the most critical piece of information. it enters with the COPPER CONTACTS UPPERMOST then rolls over so they are at the rear when it seats into position, Betcha the folks having trouble are inserting it with the rear facing contacts toward the rear. DON'T DO THAT.
How did you clean it exactly? Did you clean the brown strip that connects the two chips on the bottom. The strip I'm working with seems to have black ink on it, although I'm hesitant to touch it with alcohol.
Hi, following my previous message to after getting the print head out and clean it very carefully then reinstalled and i was very happy and optimistic of getting rid if error B200 but unfortunately it appears again and refuses to go. Also i found something else when i press the printer on the paper door opened immediatly and this was not happened before unless i want to print something. Please tell me what can i do further to solve this problem. Thank you
Thanks for the info. To be honest, I had same situation and had to buy a new printer, but that time the canon printers were super cheap and now the increased the prices dramatically. Very sad. Seems about 50% of ppl are successful with this method and the other 50% not ... :-( I've checked other brands and Brother printers seems to be still very cheap and usually have good reviews and you can buy cheap Chinese cartridges as well ;-) Check e.g. this one here for only about $50 now: amzn.to/2NX3Fx9
I can't get my printhead to seat right when putting it back in. It goes back but is loose, won't fit right before pushing locking mechanism closed. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the positive feedback. Unfortunately was not successful with cleaning ... means it did not fix the problem and hence haven't made a video about. I bought distilled water and poured it over the head and rubbed with a small brush ... but again ... did not help. Maybe your result will be better ... just let me know if you're successful ;-)
Hi there, i'm having a consistent problem with my MX922 printer, hopefully you can help me out? Whenever i print anything, the lines are all blurred and looks horrible. I have done the cleaning and resorted to several "deep clean" cycles to get the Print nozzle check pattern looking somewhat to what it should be. The weird part, is it's always the PGBK line that has issues. All the other colours / lines are perfectly fine. I have replaced the cartridges with new quality ones, and performed several other deep cleans, and still having the same issue. Could this be a printer head issue? If so, would isopropyl alcohol work with a Qtip? If so, where on the print head do you clean? On all 5 of the circle sections where the ink cartridge foam would touch? Any other places that i should clean? Thanks in advance, hope to hear back from you.
