How to unclog & clean your edible image printer tutorial (with blooper)!

In this video I will show you how I clean my Canon Pixma MG5520 edible image printer. After researching the printer I finally figured out how to remove the print head to clean it much quicker and with less mess. I am not a professional printer tech so please clean your printer at your own risk. Feel free to Subscribe, Like and/or Share!

thank u for this video!!! This was my first time printing since I got my printer last week and no blue was coming out!!! Thanks for the tutorial (a life saver). I did everything you did and my PGBK was still not printing. Found out that if you remove the two small screws, you can also clean the white area using the syringe too. Now my printer finally works again!

Kass, you are WONDERFUL ! Saved me from buying a new printer ! Tip: I saw another video where the guy used a stream of hot water into the ink wells (no kit or special solution) so I tried that and ... seems like it works , but takes longer, and you have to force the water alternating between the ink wells and the outflow side. However, your method of using a syringe/tube to force the ink out is more efficient). Anyway, I'm looking for your video on how to refill the cartridges ... (I've subscribed to your channel and I'll find out what other useful demos you do !) Gratefully, Paul :-)

Thanks for vid. My MG6660 stopped Magenta. Followed process no fix. Even though cartridge half-full it had stopped emitting ink!

Thank you for sharing! im about to try this after the hose, syringe didnt work. Unfortunately we didnt use the printer for some time and it seemed to have dried and clogged. I will try and repost how it went

This is an excellent video. I picked up one thing by watching it, but you actually don't mention it. Make sure you put the rubber feet up the correct way. I did it incorrectly and it was part of my problem. The feet have little lips and these go to the BOTTOM as can be seen in the last part of the video. Secondly, the kit isn't available in Australia as far as I know, so I purchased a syringe from the pharmacy ($1), pinched some tubing from another project and used Windex. Great tutorial.

How did you get the tubing that fit around the syringe to fit around the larger print heads? Windex sounds great but what are your thoughts on 50% rubbing alcohol as a replacement? Your a great thinker! Have a good one. :) :) :)

I fixed my Canon MG6250 by removing the print head and washing in water to get some ink out. Then I soaked it in Metholated Spirits in an icecream container, to get the rest of the ink out. the M S combines with water and evaporates quickly ( it is the E10 additive used in Petrol) and I blew it clean with a tin of compressed air. I re assembled it and plugged it in and did the start and stop buttons together which did the reset, and the printer worked perfectly with all colours and no B200 fault. But I dont know for how long, but it is fine. Note do NOT upgrade the software as I have been told that it stops the refillable cartridges being used. from Australia. Victoria.

You don't need to force the carriage to the right to unlock the printhead; just hold down the Stop button for a few seconds and it will automatically go to that spot. At least that's how it works on my Canon MX922.

Wow, great video. I suggest using needle nose pliers to grab the printhead when taking it out. For me that was the most frustrating part-getting the PH out. Your video really answered how the *#%@, ing thing comes out. It drove me nuts until I found your video. I was getting a Wrong PH message. I have two other MG7520 printers and just wanted to swap a PH from one of those into my main printer but couldn't figure how to remove the present PH until I found your video. BTW the swap solved my printer's issue. I was at a loss until you showed me how to get the old PH out. Many thanks. Neill

i soaked mine in warm water overnight. this worked first time. the 2nd time it didnt. i put new cartridges in and worked (for a month). then even with plenty ink in and plenty usage (no drying clogging occured) m prints started comign out with missing colours. i then fucked the printer off and lost interest. lately ive decided to give it a go again as its now aproaching winter so printing is my christmas presents plus i make picture frames from scrap wood. yesterday i ran warm watere through for a good 5 mins and repeated it. twice. refitted after drying and still no ink was passing onto paper. so now this syringe method i hope will furrrrrrkin work. ive learnt not to neglect my passion (one of) through all this frustration and so i will now aim to print pne photo a day. even if it costs me money in ink, as actually in the long run i waste ink by clogging problems

This was a saver.. searched and searched for instructions on removing print head.. how easy it was after watching this...my problem ... I have clogged that is pretty severe... when soaking one like this do let the tubing sit on top and soak that way .. it pretty cloggged I can not push any cleaning solution thru...and my solution is is gone..i see where I can use warm tap water ..you had mentioned you had previously had a severe clogged heads... how long did it take clear the clogs?

i found a tutorial before yours and it worked, and it was exactly this but your tutorial was so much better lol. a do have a question though you think i can leave my printer without putting ink cartridges? I'm moving and will not be using my printer for a while.

oh yeah! I do it all the time. I would clean it before you move so the ink doesn't get dunked up in the heat.

to move the bar in front of the printer head hold the stop button down 5 second and it will move so you can pull the bar and remove the head

goodness lord, I did something similar and the first print had all colours mixed. I am going to run more prints and cleans and I hope my printer gets back in status. I think I'll have to send it back for fix :/

I fixed the printer, the ink went all over the place because there was water excess left inside the head nozzles. But my problem with the pigment black (the one that prints text) is still there exactly the same. I think I need a he

Good vid, thx. Currently cleaning my 2 ts8120 printers to store after moving to megatanks for those non edibles you can use 91% alcohol with 4 tspn dish soap and few drops glycerin from drug store (put lubrication coat). I have no idea was edible ink is. People eating tshirts?

Remove head, run under sink faucet's HOT water till no more ink in sink. Dry & install. Been doing mine several years.

What about the little round rubber gasket ring thingies? And do you put scotch tape over the gold contacts on the circuit board, to keep it from getting damaged?

***** I would check to make sure your cartridge is not clogged up. You can only get so many uses out of each one bc eventually the sugar will clog the cartridge itself. If so then you can buy replacement ones from ink4cake.com or inkedibles.com What did you use to clean the print head?

the print head is finicky when it comes to ink flow so try flushing out your cartridges or using known good replacement catridges.If that doesnt solves your problem then try cleaning the print head be especially carefull not to install the print head wet especially if the whole print head had been soaked in cleaning solution(leave it out to dry for a day )and to apply gentle pressure when using a syringe to push cleaning solution through the nozzles.If the print head does not show improvements then the print head may be really clogged and longer soaking times may be used given enough drying time if that doesnt work then the printhead may be worn and a replacement is required the part may be found on the body of the print head starting with QYx-xxxx (e.g QY6-0078) the replacement will work as long as the previous print head has not suffered an electrical fault (marked by a regular pattern on the test page) it is recommended that you avoid ebay as many marked used printheads as new and may cause irreversible damage to your printer and instead contact a reputable canon parts seller.

Go in to the menu and realign the head (may take a few tries). Should be good after that.

‼⚠Everything is right what she does. But one thing....PLEASE do NOT put your printhead back in until it air dries at least overnight. The tiniest water droplet can burn out your machine! I know, it was a costly mistake!‼⚠ I also just use a white vinegar/warm water solution...works great and so inexpensive!

I have done that in the past. Buy a brand new unused printer and put edible ink cartridges in it. just dont use it with regular ink ever.

I have 6 printers literally 6 edible ink printers that I keep buying more beacuse I think they dont work any more! Until today a girl told me you can wash them! Omg thanks I have Lost customers and alot of money on these!
