Thank you Wayne! I actually installed a new valve cover on my Cooper S R56 N18 and used your video for guidance. Like Tom Carrozza mentioned, thanks for the attention to detail!
Brandon, Thanks for watching. Are you referring to the clip in this link? www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/DC/96891-05819030.html?DN&PartsGeek+Google+Base&+Mini+Cooper+Valve+Cover+Hold+Down+Tab+Genuine+11-15+Mini+Valve+Cover+Hold+Down+Tab+2014+2013&gclid=Cj0KCQjws4aKBhDPARIsAIWH0JXpxJwp7LEczorW5dBr4u_kWoHqi1mvl1bNly02HDs1mttes3e1TfMaApV7EALw_wcB
Hi Wayne no its the sort of cable tie clip that holds one of the cables to the valve cover its a tiny little clip ! its ok though as when you put the top smaller cover on it covers it so its no big deal ... i also put a little RTV gasket maker on some of the corners .. so am testing it all this week to see if it leaks but all looks good so far so big thanks
Thank you ever so much for this, have done the job a couple of times on MR2s but nervous about doing it on the Mini. I get a chirp at low revs/heavy load which I think could be the PCV, a previous attempt to replace just the PCV resulted in snapped clips, so need to replace the whole cover. The aftermarket PCV valves and covers are terrible, so just weighing up paying the extra for a genuine Mini valve cover.
Urghh just seen my own comment. Aftermarket cover lasted ~ a year. Just replaced the vaccuum pump in case that was an oil leak source, but think it's actually the rear of the rocker cover. Bought a new gasket and going to stick some RTV on the corners
Thx you for the vid I’m about to put mine back on hope everything goes well I accidentally wrote my reply to you in Brandon msg I also had hard time trying to disconnect the hose that goes to the air filter to valve cover the part you have to Squeeze plastic was a little brittle
That clip is known to be brittle, some of the mechanics at Mini just break them to save time because they have them in stock to replace. If you look online I think they’re around $5. Part number 11127589618
Great video! Wayne 🤝 waiting for my parts gasket+ pcv. Hey! Mr. Wayne you have any video how to remove+ replace PCV valve??? Thank you 🙏. Pat I have similar car like your 2013 mini Cooper S R56 N18. ** Hope to hear from you soon. ** Want to ask you. Do you put any sealant on the valve gasket before you reinstall it???? Thank you.
Thanks for the video, Wayne! I removed my valve cover last week and when I went to turn on the car it ignites but it doesn’t turn on. The ground cable broke so I had to reground it, is it possible I did that wrong? Thanks!!
It’s possible oil from the valve cover made their way down the spark plug coil tube causing a hard start. It’ll be puffing out dark smoke if that’s the case. As for the ground cable make sure it’s a clean connection and keep me updated on your progress
@@waynesgarage8579 let’s say oil did go down the spark plug coil, what would I do to fix that? Also, if it’s not grounded would the car pop? It sounds like it ignites but doesn’t actually turn on so it makes a popping sound like a loud miss fire.
Off top of my head: 10mm deep socket + extension Variety of long flat head screw drivers. Pocket screwdriver Slip joint pliers Several style of Needle nose pliers Cleaner/Degreaser and rags Pretty much all basic tools but it’ll take some time to thoroughly remove the harden gasket and clean.
