@@JM-AUTO my buddy just had the timing chain and I'm assuming the guides and tension replaced. A week later it's over heating and out of coolant. Seems to be leaking from the water pump area. These kits usually come with the water pump. Maybe this guy didn't do it right.

So there isn’t much fear of the timing jumping teeth doing it this way?

@@josephthespeeddemon no the time will not jump because of the design inside the engine the timing chain passes between 2 guides one on top and one beneath that wont allow the chain to come out so the only loose area is after the tensioner and before the water p but on top the timing chain is trapped n dont take the tensioner out unless you r replacing it but it is good idea to replace it.

Why what happens if tensioner goes bad ? Or why replace it when replacing water pump .

that is always great idea basically I do that all the time but in this case I wanted to feel the bolt on my fingers because of the big risk of dropping the bolt inside the engine. thanks for sharing I really appreciate it.

Don't do that the chain is going to jump there no need to rotate the engine without water p n tensioner

hi thanks for watching, actually you have to rotate the engine till you get enough slack on the water pump so you can remove it, engine will not go off time since it was design to remove the water this way.

there are so many water pumps that they go bad and they dont leak how ever in the nissan 4.0 it is really rear to see a bad water pump that does not leak but if you have not changed your water p then you should replace it, check tharmostat, head gasket, coolant level, temperature sensor, see if the upper and lower radiator hoses get too hard when engine is hot, just be carful dont get burn

I'm honestly thinking thermostat.... The radiator has been changed with a aftermarket unit... I'm just a not super familiar with these 4.0 Nissan engines..

normally it leaks in the rear of the engine by the air compressor, upper n lower radiator hoses get hot if the thermostat is opening n the water p is doing the job, but if you r not loosing coolant, then water p is not leaking but it does not mean it is good because if the impeller blades in the water p are worn out then it wont circulate coolant and most likely the radiator will get hot on one side only. let me know how every thing goes.

sorry to hear that, yes you can spray DW-40 and let it seat may be and hopefully that heps you. hitting it directly with a hammer might be an issue, you should get a rubber mallet and hit the ruber mallet also you can tight zip ties to the gear of the pump and tie a piece of wood or metal to the ties and pull it out, this work for me ones with the same issue you having now.

Actually yes you do. I can prove it. I got the engine up to temp to bleed the system. Then I went and got the stuff for an oil change. I remove the oil cap and it was creamy white !!!!! I immediately drained the oil and it was also completely contaminated!!! I drained it changed the oil and filter. Ran it for 3 minutes. Drained it AGAIN STILL WHITE . Went to the store got two more filters and more oil. Filled it again with new filter and 3/4 quart of trans fluid let it run for 15 minutes drained it and it got better. DRAINED SWAPPED FILTER AGAIN ran it for 10 minutes drained it and then did a final filter and fill. I have videos and photos of the whole ordeal. PLEASE PEOPLE DO NOT START UNTIL YOU DRAIN OIL AND REPLACE FILTER. There was very light gold flake in the pan. Which means BEARING material. Final oil change I also added a quart of Lucas oil stabilizer. I hope I'm able to get some years out of the engine. Prices are going up for replacements and they all have higher mileage. $2500 for 2:22 140k mile replacement engines..

@@Vgk36 unless you have head gasket problem or you mix oil with anti-freeze, if i replace water pump on this engine i dont mix oil and coolant, thanks for watching.

agree, it is a very bad design, and dangerous.

with a sling hammer: get 2 bolts and weld a strong washer on each tip of the bolts, put both bolts around the water p gear on opposite directions and tight them with zip tights so you can pull out the water p out, for this you have to take off the front end of the truck because there is no enough space for the slide hammer.
