Are the vents (dampers) on your Weber Smokey Mountain or Weber Kettle broken? Do they no longer sit flush with the body of the grill? In this video I'll show you how to replace the vents on my Weber Smokey Mountain, but the same process can be used on a Weber Kettle.

Good video Dave with nice explanation. I need to do mine. After removing my old bolts and installing new fabricated vent handles, they look nice but the weight pulls the vent down off setting. So new vents, bolts, and locknuts are in order. Thanks for your inciteful how to.

Great video thanks! I'm going to replace mine too. Do you have any suggestions (or videos) for brushing off some rust spots without damaging the finish? I had to remove the bolts that support the charcoal grate and also the straps that support the bowl and two cooking grates. There are some rust stains that I need to get off and maybe spray some high heat Rustoleum. Maybe some steel wool? Thanks!

I don’t have a video about that. All I’ve ever done to rust spots on webers is heat up the grill and then brush some cooking oil on the rust to seal it.

@@daveshouseofbbq thanks. I used Evapo-Rust (non-toxic) to get the vast majority of it off. I soaked the bolts and nuts in it which totally removed the rust. The rust in the bottom bowl is mostly removed also. I think your idea of cooking oil makes more sense than Rustoleum lol. I didn’t think that totally through. Paint is probably not a good option for cooking. Thanks for the reply!
