Good video. My hub assembly was so rusted that I had to bring it to a shop. I simply don't have the tools, like a power hammer, to remove rust from years and years of salty roads.

I just replaced both front hubs on my 07 no ABS 4 lug. I sprayed both with some PB blaster and by the time I finished with an oil change both came right off. About a year and a half ago I did the same to a 2012 Jeep Liberty I used to own, and the one bearing I replaced took me 2 days and a rented tool to get it off. I hear people knock Chevy and the Cobalts especially, but they are as easy to work on as the guy in the video made it look, even with out power tools.

This video was very helpful! The parts seem to be very good quality for a great price. I did both of my hubs in about 3 hours. Used some PB Blaster on the bolts and let it soak for a bit because it was a bit rusty, and I swear by that stuff. Anyways, my car is much happier now, thanks to 1A Auto! Thanks Mike for the video and 1A Auto for the parts!

Thanks to this video i was able to get the job done! My wheel bearing was on there tight due to rust but after 15 minutes of hammering, PB Blaster, and turning the wheels back and forth wedging something behind the hub to push it out while hammering it came loose (In 2 pieces! it was THAT rusty!) I only did the one side for now but eventually i will do the other when i have more time

If it's really stubborn usually a 3-4 sledge hammer to the back of the flange will break it free. Just make sure that all of the bolts are removed and wear safety glasses.

I think he removed the caliper in two parts because he was using a lift. He couldn’t rest the entire caliper on something like a bucket, which is what I do. I don’t think you could hook the entire assembly onto the strut like he did due to the shape.

So you don’t have to reconnect the ABS if your new wheel bearing doesn’t have it?

Only advise is to mention to loosen the wheel lug with a breaker bar before you jack up the car. Then when removing the wheel hub housing it may take a bit of elbow grease. I sprayed the junction point with PB Blaster and let it sit for a while. Then beat it from the opening where the brake caliper is open. The hole for the housing has relief so the hub should come out. Mine was tough but a small sledgehammer and 5-10 good blasts should do it. Good luck!!! PS buy their bearing. It is identical to OEM and looks to be very high quality. Will update if/when bearing fails

I followed these directions for my friend's '06 cobalt, but the bearing hub is still stuck on. It's a Michigan car. Think it's a rust seal? I've tried heating it, banging it, and swearing at it, but it's still stuck. What should we do?

Do you need to have it on stilts/lifts or can you do it with a simple 2.5 ton jack?
@XxJaguar22
@XxJaguar22 2 года назад
I know this comment is almost a decade old, but for anyone else who reads it: NEVER use a jack by itself. Always use jackstands (assuming no lift). Use the jack to get the jack stands under the frame. Then rest all weight onto the jackstands slowly. Then I re-raise the jack so it is in contact with the frame but has little/no weight on it. But if the stands fail, the jack is already making contact so it shouldn’t slip and should hold the car in a similar position. In short, never substitute a jack for jackstands, but by all means, use it as a backup safety measure!!!

I"m working on my GF's 2010 cobalt, 5 Stud ABS, and i cannot for the life of me get the hub back in through the knuckle. I cleaned the knuckle with a dremel, and it looks like new on the inside again. I even froze the hub assembly for 2 days and heated the knuckle, Still wont go in. Its like its supposed to be pressed in ?!?! which i thought you don't have to do for bolt on wheel hubs.

+Mike Estes It should be the same process, you just have to be aware that the ABS wire is held on by a handful of clips so you will have to undo them when removing!

Hello, I recently changed the wheel bearing hub on a 2009 Pontiac G5 - 5 lug w/ ABS. Web order # 2DNK26WANGD. ITEM: 1ASHS00178. After replacing the hubs and connected the new ABS sensors, Immediately afterwards the Service traction light and ABS light came on the dash. Can you please advise?

Thank you for watching. At your earliest convenience please call my experienced sales staff at 888-844-3393. They would be more than happy to assist you with this. It is possibly a ABS sensor was damaged during shipping causing the lights. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Why no abs on 4 lug
@1AAuto
