This was very helpful. Much easier than removing the entire front bumper! The replacement pump I bought said to install the gasket on the reservoir first and use a dry lubricant, such as powdered graphite to ease the installation of the pump. Worked like a charm. I turned the wheel to the left to give better access. Total time was about 15 minutes. Luckily, I only had to change the front windshield pump. It looks like the rear is more difficult to access.

Can't thank you enough young man, your short-cut saved me from an expensive garage bill.

Good video. Another site suggested taking off the bumper-wasn't necessary. There is a bit more to taking off the shroud however so be aware of that. Splash shield also needs removing {at least on my 2009}. I also tried the new pump on the electrical first to be sure that was the problem-it was. The only other real trouble was pushing the new pump back into the tank. Used the Vaseline but no help in my case. After almost an hour of frustration i pulled the rubber ring off the motor and seated it on the tank first.. The motor then slide in place within secs. No leaking at this point. Hope this helps anyone having trouble. Also not a bad idea to take a pic or two for reassembly later.

This "bush fix" method is far easier than the Toyota Repair Manual method which requires that you take off the bumper cover, splash pan cover, etc. This is 15 minutes versus a couple hours.

Thank You very much for your explanations on how to change the pump. I just changed the pump on my Corolla 2011. Every step is well explained except one. And it's the most important one. When i wanted to put the new pump back in place. I tried doing like you mentioned...twisting, turning and pushing it into it's place. After one hour and a half of swearing… because the pump was impossible to put back on.I decided to take the gasket of the pump and put it in the hole of the container. After that that i put vaseline on the gasket and the pump. It took 10 seconds and it was in place. The only way to put it back on if you don't want to lose time and swear because you can't get it into place.

Holy crap, this comment is a godsend. I was about to throw this pump across my garage till I read this comment. After reading, I reinstalled it in 10 seconds after swearing up a storm for half an hour. Thank you thank you thank you!

I did the same exact thing, I wish I would’ve read this first. It would’ve saved me a lot of frustration.

@@markcjuliano I was laughing so hard by imagining your frustration. Swearing up a storm for half an hour was classic.

I watched this video before replacing. I thought the new gasket was too big and I compared it to the old gasket and theyre the same. It took me 20 mins just putting it in and I almost gave up. I did what you did, too bad I didnt read your comment before doing it. I was at the backyard no garage and -10c weather with snow.

Thank you - this was a great help. I did not know which motor was the front and which was the rear. I will say getting big hands into that small space was a pain. Also on a further note - taking the O'Ring off the new pump, applying the grease on the inside and outside of it, then placing it in the hole followed by the motor was the way to go. Having the motor in the gasket to push it back in would not work. I also put the hose back on before, well after taking the motor back out, the putting the motor back in as I could not get it back on the motor.

It took 20mins for me to install the new one, and vaseline help a lot by twisting and pushing thanks for the video

You do not need to lube the new pump. Take the big O-ring off of your new pump, and install just the O-ring into the tank hole, then press the new pump into the O-ring and into the tank.

I want to say thank you in advance, because I searched for a 2007 Toyota RAV4 for a windshield wiper pump last week didn't find anything, and a bit ago I figured I didn't search right and said let me try again and here is your video you posted 2 or 3 days ago. In a way I feel a bit of a relief to know they go often. I'm glad I can do this myself. I always say if I can do it then let me if I can't then take it to my mechanic. I have a bit of another issue I have a hanger missing on my muffler that is rattling after I got the muffler replaced twice doing the same thing mistaking it for bad baffles. Only had the car a little over a year. I'm hoping I can put it something to make it stop. Thanks again dude for posting this. 😊

This was perfect. my model is a 2006, and the motor was more to the side of the vehicle than this one, but it all worked out, except the fact that I don't seem to have the strength to push it all the way in. My grandmother is sweet, saying that it's because the bumper is in the way, which it is being the model it is, but still LOL We're gonna have to take it to a mechanic still for that part, but like I said, this was fantastic! Thank you!!!

Thanks for the vid it helped a ton but two things i learned ; 1 turn the wheel to give u more spece. 2 if you take the rubber seal and insert it first in to the reservoir and then insert the pump into the seal ita 10 times easier and u dont need Vaseline!!

Every step was good except... Put synthetic lube on the inside and out of the gasket first then put it in. After that put the motor in after connecting the tube to the left of it. This will save you a ton of headaches.

Installed mine on a Lexus LS 460 and followed your steps. Pretty easy. I found it easier to remove the rubber seal ring in the new pump motor and insert it into the reservoir. You insert the pump motor from there. Thanks for your help.

You should pull off the ruber gasket of the pump and put the gasket in the tank

I see you’re in Utah! You guys have incredibly “hard water” there! I bet you have “scaling” issues in the nozzles and lines if people use tap water to “top off” the windshield wiper fluid

I have a 2003 Camry and the washer fluid started leaking out last week. My mechanic told me it was because the pump went bad. I'm not sure if that's true because it seems to me that if the hose is connected the fluid should not leak. Am I wrong?
@fabulousprofound

i am hoping someone can help me with this... i just replaced the pump as per the instructions in this video, but now have a low fluid warning all the time. the pump works, and it is spraying the windshield, but the tank can be full all the way to the top and the warning won't go away...

Is there only one fuse for both motors? I'm assuming if the rear pump is working and the front is not, that the fuse is fine. Great video- clearly communicated.

nope, not supposed to use vaseline. Silicone grease. Vaseline jacks up rubber seals and o-rings. Otherwise, thanks for the info.

Was wondering if anyone can help me troubleshoot something. So just noticed today that front washer pump wasn't working. I went to try the back one and realized that wasn't working either. Figured it seems like it either has to be a fuse or the pump, but realized that front and back have two totally separate pumps, which I should have initially realized was pretty obvious. I just checked the fuse and it's still good. It seems very unlikely that two pumps would go out at the same time. Does anyone have any clues on what might be going on? I'm not closed off to replacing the pumps, but I'm not sure I should take that avenue as first step in the process of elimination.
