All BMW have built in protection against short circuit. If ECU detects CS (short circuit) it automatically can disable electricity output to a certain parts to avoid car getting into the flames. The trick is that even after fixing physical CS in the wiring the car will not work properly any more. Because power output has been disabled at software level. You even have to replace ECU (LM, FRM, FEM, BDC) or know the trick how to make it alive again. In that video I´m showing the procedure of resetting short circuit counter to the zero.

Здравствуйте, Владимир, выражаю огромную благодарность! У меня е60, была проблема с левой лампой подсветки номера, перетерлись провода в багажнике, всё перепаял, а лампа всё равно не горела. Ломал себе голову, лез в сам блок LM, думал его менять и тут наткнулся на Ваше видео и всё поправил за 20 минут. Ещё раз большое спасибо, на просторах YT нет более компетентного канала по диагностике и кодировке BMW. Желаю роста аудитории!

Do other E60 modules have short circuit counters? I have a C519 connection head-unit to GPS aerial foot:short circuit to ground fault code. I also have a right break light error but the right break light works. My satellite radio channels are gone, my nav is inaccurate, and I don't have aux audio. I do have am/fm radio audio, CD changer audio, and chimes. Is there a way to reset such a short circuit? Would a short in the sharkfin cause aux audio and satellite issues after the blown radio fuse #34 has been replaced?

Not all consumers have short circuit counter I’ve never seen GPS antenna being locked by such a counter for example.

Hi! i think i have this probem to my G30. I am in the process to udate my back lamps to LCI. I have not find the coding solution yet, but meanwhile the brake lights stop working (error short circuit) i think because of the difrent order of pins on lamp contact. It is possible you solved such a problem?

Hi, very good and helpful video! I try to do the same process with an F11, but the modules are different. After a looong attempt with many variables with Tool32, I found that the TMS module (the one of wich angel eyes and turn indicator that not works) don't communicate with Tool32 (error of communication). I think first I will remove the TMS and, after a first check, I will try with repair or a new one module. I guess that is an hardware problem. But I don't find any counter to reset (like your video, the 50 times of error checked). Maybe at F11 is not expected? Thank you for your thougs!

Usually TMS go bad due to water… I don’t remember seeing CS in TMS ECUs But not saying it’s not possible

Hello! I am trying to reset circuit shorts on my 2012 e92 328i. My left headlight went out because of water damage, and I replaced all the parts and everything works perfectly, except for the adaptive headlight. I found the short circuits on Toolset32, but for some reason, I do not have a “Tabllen-info” tab showing part ID numbers. It does not show up on my screen when I open FRM_87 and I cannot figure out how to open it. Please let me know if you have any idea on how yo open/access that tab, as i need it to check for the ID’s in order to fix the issue. Thank you.

@@BimDoc I tried this with FRM_70 and same thing happened where everything opens, except Tabllen did not open. I even reinstalled all of the BMW Tools and nothing changed. However, I ran it in simulation mode and Tabllen actually shows up. But when i run it normally with administrator privileges, same thing as before. I am sure that the connection is fine, as I ran INPA and it shows a good connection. I am using the USB to K-DCAN, and I have the switch set to K mode. What version of Toolset32 are you running? Also, what version of Windows?

Not possible to disable completely. You can code out hot and cold checks. Maybe it helps.

How do these software communicate? Did you open FRM and did the soldering? or directly through OBD port?

I recently did the same reset using the Launch Creader Elite and it was super easy to identify the fault and reset the counter. No need for tool 32.

@@BimDoc lovely! NCSEXPERT is very sensitive 🥲 not working etc, quite difficult to get work, INPA, ISTA+ all working super, but not NCS :( the ECU option shown was CAS, FRM, NFRM. VIN faulty (possibly lack of files) but man I loved your toolset32 for lighting reset! :) link video please? Maybe INSTA+P or other software might do better job than NCS? Also, I have got 2003 E46 M3, I plugged it in, it doesn’t work even in INPA, nor ISTA… does it need to be switch left?) I have K+DCAN. Look forward to hear from you Doc!

It was communication, setting, NCS are really sensitive than INPA… How do i really know which to use ECU profile like CAS, FRM, NFRM before selecting modules? Okay so why did the counter get to 50 on just that bulb, but not for any other bulb ? There must be a fault somewhere and after some time the same issue will come back. Yes or no ?

Of course. There is a physical short circuit in the wiring. That’s why it’s happening. Physical CS has to be fixed first. Other wise it will be blocked again in a short period of time.

Здравствуйте,была проблема с фарой,а именно сгорел блок розжига и адаптива (была влага в фаре) Заменил на новую фару,но светят только глазки,ставлю новую фару на другую сторону и она работает идеально Это же может быть связано с коротким замыканием и цикла из 50 раз? bmw e92

How can I reset the counter on the REM? I found the status job but I am unable to reset the counter because the reset job is missing on the REM. FEM or FRM is no problem.

The same way. But for example on F10 counter reset is performed automatically during every car start. So no need.

I haven’t sent blocked motor coursing that. But any short circuit can cause.

Нет, такая функция защиты сделана не во всех модулях. От многого спасают самые обычные предохранители. Такая проблема встречается только в модулях отвечающих за освещение.

Профи, видно сразу!!! Не могли бы Вы подсказать, как отшить блокировку руля на е90 и т.д Постоянно горит желтый руль, не хочется ставить эмуляторы. Ошибка A114 CAS:Line fault, EL, steering lock. Известная проблема БМВ. Заранее благодарен

@@BimDoc Thanks! I reset the counter. Left rear brake light (0x0E), everything is reported OKAY, but counter value 60 comes right back. It seems there is actually a short in the wiring(or inside LM). There's continuity between earth and power when measured from bulb socket.

If the short circuit is present then of course tool32 will not solve the issue
