One thing I noticed, at least with my 891; MY ATAS locked up on me a short while ago-also on 40 Meters. I turned the radio off, turned it back on, set the radio on 20 Meters, and the ATAS started working again.
On a FT897d and the FT857d You can go into the service menu By holdong down ABC and POWERING ON THE RIG , then go to menu 71 (ASTAS service) and use the UP and DOWN buttons to control the ATAS 120A so you can check the antenna is not sticky or slipping ..WARNING DONT CHANGE ANY SETTINGS OR YOU WILL BE IN THE BFC ( blown finals club)
I've got to find how this is done on an FT100D. I was just gifted the radio and I bought the ATAS 120 second hand, it tuned on 10,12,15,17,20,30 fine but when I tried 40 it struggled and kept trying (I think I need more grounding) then it gave-up and fully retracted and won't move again!
@@digitalanaloguehamradio Bonding all the doors Hood "Bonnet",rearTailgate lift and body to frame on each hinge so two straps... one for each hinge. No trouble with 80/75 also try manually Tuning it when you get it stuck. i find that works also just bring it up or down towards the direction you want it to go then start an auto tune.Jim
