If you havent figured it out already you have a mix of early & late components. You may find it makes sense to "update" various elements from later models for comfort & functionality.

All the various 914 engines had strong bottom ends. Heads are expensive. You need to pull the top end because it is easy and the engine is out. Doing a complete top end is what I recommend and checking the crank end play. You have a very nice California car. Make it complete.

Make sure you look behind the rocker covers exposing the longitudinals?

Hello, check 914world.com. Lots of ideas and 914 members help each other in that site. Well about your 71 car. Looks like it is solid compare to many 914 projects or restored projects been done. 1. That engine mount bar is from a tail shifter and you have that spare engine mount bar for side shift conversion. 2. Original fuel pump for fuel injection still mounted under the “hell hole” area and you also have the fuel pump installed above for the dual carb conversion.

Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on....
