I went for the first time yesterday, fell a quarter of the way up and hung on with my board sliding behind me the rest of the way. Dude behind me said" i cant believe you hung on that long" and the guy behind him said "good effort" lol
I think one of the most important things I learnt from riding the T-bar is to NOT fight it and let the bar take you where it wants. 99% of the time it will adjust course and take you back onto the main path. Really just relax your body, bend your knees slightly and go with the flow.
Exactly what I wanted to point out :) the more I cared about where it takes me and wanted to adjust my path, the more screwed up the situation always appeared, hahaha
I never ever feel from a T-Bar on a snowboard miraculously, one issue i do have is how much my right leg hurts because of the T-Bar digging into my bone, feels like hell until i get off of it.
I find that if you put your weight distributed equally on both feet and RELAX instead of tensing up, you will go up the t-bar better. This is what the Lift person advised me and I haven't fallen since. It is important that if your board is slippery between bindings, get a stomp pad to help.
T-bar for me was most terifieng thing about snowboarding, on my first times i did th holding on to the t-bar all the way up (it was cansiderably smaller slope) these times I failed to mount it properly, boy was my hands exhausted. Got to aprouch em things with chill, people are ther to relax and chill n o need to work-up your fears
Man oh man.. I remember last year when I went to smuggs, I went over to the big mountain(it sucked ass, pure ice last year) but I went on the t bar there, and the first two times I just held onto it with my hands. (It worked) Then the third time.. Well I was going by just my hands again, and I hopped to get a better position because my board was going off to the right a little. I fell about 15-20ft up, got right back up & rode down and got back on as the operator showed me the correct way. Never been on one because I normally go to mountain creek(I live in NJ) Haha all I can say is I wish I watched this video before hand.
this was hard AF to learn, i'm a beginner as well, though i managed to do it this weeked on a very long and steep t-bar. IMHO the key thing is to stay really flat on your board, don't even try to turn by lifting toe/heel edge. If you feel like you're getting off balance just try moving the pressure between the toe/heel edge BUT VERY SLIGHTLY, small controlled movements here are the key thing here.
I had never managed to reach the end of a t-bar until this year (my fifth time), when I followed the advice of a local instructor (from Serre Chevalier): Just hold on with your front hand and let the T-Bar carry you. Holding the bar with both hands seems to be the most common mistake beginners make.
I’d like to hear the channel answer that question. To me the ride up is the hardest because the board gets tossed around a bit from side to side. So I’m wondering if one should slightly switch between toe and heel edge?
One thing I did that helped a ton, I just set my back foot in my binding unstrapped, just set in. That gave me tons of board control but mt foot can still slip out.
i learned snowboarding on a slope where only a t-bar is. also it pulls u a very very steep hill for one part. the guys working there always been like "if u can do this one here u can do every t-bar anywhere" he was right. its not that hard at all, i find the aching leg the day after the worst. EDIT: we call it schlepplift in germany, or ankerlift
As much as we claim to not like skiers lol they are actually really great to ride the t-bar with, their skis help to keep your board straight and flat, and reduce the chances of falling ^_^
What would you do if there are bumps in the terrain? Particularly in ice sections that have become like a mini slalom? I find my body rocks back and forth and I catch an edge on the bumps and fall.
Is it safe to go up the tbar having one leg not attached to it ? Just like you have in this video. I had a very serious accident going up the tbar and ending up almost dying and hitting the post of the tbar. You can't control the snowboard properly once you fall down from the bar. You just slide down if you have one leg just hanging in the middle. After my accident snowboard instructors were all discussing what happened.. and said that I should have had both feet inside attached properly to the snowboard.
first time I ever rode a t-bar,, the wind had blown the snow off of the layer of ice underneath in one 20 foot long spot. long story short, I ended up holding on while penguin sliding. I eventually was able to pull myself up before the top. so my tip would be if its your first time, make sure 1. the conditions are favorable, and 2. the mountain you are at takes good care of trails and lifts.
One time, at a ski hill, the t bar was something you held on to and when I first started snowboard I let go and tried to get the next one by it hit me in the nose and I got blood all over my white jacket
Hey man! I think you were the one giving me snowboard classes when i was in canada. I was a brazilian exchange student visiting whistler bc. Looking forward to snowboard again in december
I find it alot easier to ride the t-bar with both feet strapped. I know that if you fall you could get stuck etc. but i just find it alot easier, yes i've tried without too.
I was thougt to put the T-bar behind my arm and back, because there were few people you could just keep strapped and penguin to the lift... worked out pretty well
This could’ve been helpful if I watched this BEFORE I went to the snow since I just went for four days and yet again I’m still trying to get on the T-bar
wish I kept at it while trying to learn t bar(or well we had one without t just like a ball), couldn't get up and it was only ride to mildest slope on the mountain. instead I got on a ski lift and went to the top alonr on my first weekend of boarding and broke my arm badly..
was only on one of these things once. made it up 1/3 of the way and caught an edge. not a side mind you, the tip. needless to say i managed to go face first into the snow with the t-bar hitting me on the back of the head from behind. i've done lotsa humiliiating things on a snowboard, but this was the worst. rode off with my head down never to do it again, anywhere.
Hi, thanx for the videos! Could u pls make a video tutorial how to ride a Poma or button lift which are very common spread through Europe. 10x in advance!
helpful as ever. wonder if u could give some tips on button lifts(yes they still have those in my country) they are a nightmare, I always try to avoid them but sometimes there's a too much crowd at the t-bar lift so u gotta use the button lift. thanks.
Thanks for the video guys! After 30 years of skiing I've started snowboarding... I was wondering how to take the T-bar next Xmas holiday!! So this one comes in handy. Just a question, once you get the hang of it, do you keep your back foot strapped in or not?
Awesome that you've started snowboarding! You always want to do the T-bar with one foot. It just makes the process of getting on and getting out of the way at the top easier. Good luck!
Steven Van den Bremt Last winter we had a really bad snow situation in Finland. That's why we had a really narrow T-bar tracks which one time cause me and my friend fall from it right to trench. Luckily we both had only front food strapped because I'm telling you it would have been really nasty if both feet would have been strapped (well I actually experienced that too long time ago - not funny) So I would also say that it's safety cause to have your back foot unstrapped. If you fall then it will be easier to get rid of T-bar :)
Wish i saw this video earlier...i tried riding this yesterday for the first time. Fell 5 times and just climbed the damn hill. Now i snowboard on the opposite side with the chairlifts.
I used to fall a lot with T-bar or button lift to a point I just do chair lift. Today I was forced to ride 1 as they have new slope but only T-bar lift to ride back up. I managed (wobbly) but I had to grab very hard on the pole, if I loosen up a bit, i lost balance. After 1.5km lift, my arm is sore even until now, may I ask for guidance what did I do wrong?
+snowboardprocamp just watched this video. Thought about another thing similar that some beginners have trouble with would be the tow rope. Just thoughts for potential future videos.
At my closest ski place there’s only 3 slopes bc it’s pretty small and the main lift there is the t bar, last time I rode snowbird there was like 3 years ago and I fell every time because of those small trails in the snow from skiers. My edge always catches in them and They make me slip away
Hi whenever I ride one the inside of my thigh really hurts after a while because of the lift pressing against it so I was wondering if there was any way to avoid this?
you can try putting the bar behind your back leg instead of between your legs, some people prefer it that way (this is mentioned in the video btw ;-) )
Do you recommend wrist guards? I've heard mixed things about them .Also, do you have any tips when riding with one foot in and skating? When i try and do it my board sometimes slips out from under me. Also i have trouble doing heel and toe edge one footed because board starts going down hill and gets out of control. Any tips? Thanks
I would recommend wrist guards if you tend to fall a lot. I fractured my wrist before, and wore wrist guards afterwards so I wouldn't hurt it again. If you feel that you fall forward a lot, or just fall a lot in general, then you might want to check them out. Then again, you never know when you're going to fall. I haven't heard any negative things about wrist guards in the past, so I think, "What's the harm?"
I have a 4 year old snowboarder who is ready to move off of the magic carpet hill to the t-bar hill (Kimberley Alpine Resort). She's tried the t-bar a couple of times by herself, but she is so light (only 33lbs) that it pulls her too fast and she can't keep her balance. We tried going with an older sibling, but her board just slides under his and trips them both up. Any tips on how to get her up the hill?
And going up with you or any other adult who has ski? My father used to do it with me so, that he put me in front of him when I started. And I did it the same way so many times with other children and my daughter, when she started with skiing. Yes, we were both skiing always and when it came to any problems with balance (bad terrain) it's always just up to you, so you have to be quite strong to hold the child and manage the situation, but maybe something like this could be a way how to do it with small snowboarder as well. I started snowboarding last year and still collect my courage to try these lifts, the only one I'm able to go up the hill is a chair lift :-)
Can you ride the T bar on a snowboard in a pair? Either snowboars-snowboard or snowboard-ski? I got shit from the lift operator for always going alone on the T-bar since it's made for two people, but I honestly can't imagine riding it in a pair. I don't exactly go straight like the skiers do, I follow the terrain. I just can't imagine riding it with another person. And I also have no idea how we'd get off the lift. But I don't want to get shit again next time I go.
It's no easier on skis if you were wondering. We don't have to worry about our nuts getting crushed but we do have to worry about the seat spinning when riding solo.
Hello SnowboardProCamp Imagine a t-bar which is have different slope on its path. When slope degree start to become high its slows slows slows and t-bars pulls me like rocket therefore i am generally falling. Do you have any suggestion for this problem?
2:28 and dont be distracted by your gopro on your wrist to avoid the oncoming T-Bar lifting you up and drop on your head:) when you swirl into the oncoming side
Where I snow board I thought there was a t bar but one of the was literally just a rope and the other had little handles on a rope so I do t know if that would be easier or harder but now I don't have to worry BC I'm on the mountain now and not the bunny hill
Great video! thank you. I sometimes struggle with riding one got out of the bindings. I think it is because I need more stomp pads on my board. Any tips for learning one foot riding?
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fCwIX1VrKS0.html i feel like its about balance, also don’t hesitate, look where ur going and picture it working, it’s mostly mental tbh 🤙🏻
I remember the first time I tried a t-bar my sister pushed my backwards and into pretty much everyone else behind me causeing everyone else to walk the next 100m.👌
The last time I rode, I didn't put it between my legs and just hold onto them with my hand. With the slope became steeper, I lost grip and had to let go.
