Thanks for the video - I have a VF150 Yamaha vmax and cannot find what to use to hang the engine - ie where the hang hooks on the engine - what did you use ? Any help appreciated
im buying a new yamaha either 115 or 150 hp the dealer wants $1200 to set it up..? (on a 19 foot center console sea hunt) that seems Expensive after watching you set up this outboard -it looks like most connections plug n play -shoiu;ld i be able to do this? --great video you made it look very straightforward thank you sir thumbs up
That actually seems like a reasonable cost if they are replacing controls, cables, gauges and harness. I believe my labor only cost on this job was around $800. It is pretty much plug and play but I don’t believe you’ll get the power matched warranty if you’re not Yamaha certified dealer. And most dealers will not let the engine leave without them installing it on your boat.
Good video content FYI at 51 years old I quit Smoking after 30 plus years ,surprisingly it was way easier than I thought it would be yeah the first week is hard but after 5 days your body stops feeling like you need one I won’t lie I ate the hellmout of Jelly Beans and Sucking Candies for me it was Mints and Jolly Ranchers now it’s been 6 years and I can smoke one at a Wedding or gathering and not at all feel like Going back to smoking again I’m a retired Woodworker and inmy early 40s I suffered 5 or 6 mini strokes on a operating table that I needed a emergency open heart surgery to repair a Disected Aorta i rehabbed and needed another surgery 7 years later then I had a Major Stroke on that Operating table that paralyzed parts of my left arm and leg I honestly think that Woodworking chemicals and the finishes had something to do with the Strokes yet Doctors say nope and the main cause was a genetic issue that caused the heart problems not even my Smoking had much to do with it ? I just thought I’d pass my quitting experience with you ,best of luck ,thanks for the channel and information
Great video! Is it preferred to run the throttle/gear cables wide (far away from the electrical and fuel) before the grommet to prevent binding in the cable housings?
Yes, depending on the cable manufacturer there should be a minimum of 18" loop to prevent binding. Some newer premium cables can bend more without binding.
One thing that was missed from the beginning is how the engine actually rigs to the tractor chain. Is there a hook on the motor to rig to, or do you need an OEM Yamaha part to connect the tractor or engine hoist chain?
Hi I have a 60 Yamaha 2001 I’m looking to transfer over to an older boat. The older boat had an older evinrude with cable stirring (ancient) I’d have to buy basically everything from steering wheel to throttle set up. My question is , anyway you can give me an idea on what parts I’d need and an estimated cost. Currently the motor is on a bass boat and I fish the bay now so I need a more seaworthy boat. Thanks and I appreciate the help. On my bass boat I just see so much wiring under the console so it looks confusing.
If you purchase a new style cable steering kit with helm it will go right into the Yamaha tilt tube. If you get a Yamaha side mount control with the key switch it’ll save you a lot, then just a Yamaha main wire harness that will connect the key to the engine. If you want to use gauges there a few different ways to go about it. Best bet is to find someone local that can look at all that wiring in person.
All parts came from a Yamaha dealer. I apologize but I did no write down the numbers. Yamaha has a rigging book for figuring out which parts you need depending on control configuration and cable length.
You put the mount arms resting on top of the transom and ive seen people have the arms wrap around the interior of the transom... is this a preference or is there a better way to do it of the two?
Not sure what you mean by arms wrapping around the interior of the transom? The mounting height depends on the actual transom height, all boats are different in that aspect.
A couple of main reasons, first mainly due to automotive engines being mass produced (lower cost) and secondly due the cost of outboard reliability against harsh conditions (high component cost & R&D).
Submerge the lower part of your car in salt water and check the condition after a couple of weeks. Waterproofing stuff takes a lot of additional parts can costs.
These were OEM but I’ve installed the aftermarket, you truly get what you pay for. Aftermarket does not compare to the quality of the Yamaha controls but they do work if you’re in a pinch.
