I made it at 48 in 2009 in Palmanova, Italy. Boy was it hard, even if I trained hard on the stadium. I remember the sub 1:30 flag passed by me 3k before end, so I gave my 100% to overpass it and there I have it. Now I am 61, run a 10k every other day and still draw from that big success.
You are doing awesome TS. Keep me posted on your future racing, 61 years young and still out putting in work. I respect that. I know you still have a sub 1:30 in you.
Thank you for the training tips. I appreciate the authenticity of your advice and have just started watching these. I’m definitely a beginner but am eager to learn more about distance training.
Great content! I just started running four weeks ago. Ran my first half marathon (solo) yesterday at 2:05. I’m completing a legitimate, sanctioned half-marathon in early October and just purchased your 1:35 Guide. It may end up being beyond my capabilities for this October but I’m going to give it a good shot!
Hey Connor. Appreciate your support. You can adjust the splits 5-7 seconds as needed. Remember, at the end of the day it is about the perceived effort and adapting to the harder anaerobic work. The REAL benefits come within the REST after the harder training is done. Be patient. The body always adapts in time. Keep me updated on how the half-marathon in October goes. Rooting for you!
I've been putting speed work in more lately. I was going by the 80/20 concept having 1 speed workout a week. Now its 2 one week and 3 the next week as well as switching from a long run of say 18 miles one week to a 12 miler the next week. switching through like that bi weekly. I only take the Monday off after my longer long run on Sunday. My fastest half is 143 flat doing that during a progression run in the rain starting from 845 pace to end in 645 pace. I don't have a coach, just researching has guided me. I can feel the 130 mark though. Also I've added strides after my easy runs. I don't know if that counteracts the purpose of easy runs, but it feels good to know that the speed is still there after running slow.
You are getting very fit Michael. Keep up the great work. I know you'll dip well under 90 minutes in due time. You are doing things right. Stay patient and most importantly stay tenacious about this goal. Strides are great to add into your pre or post easy run. Keep me posted on your progress.
Many thanks, such a great video! I think that these tips are applicable to basically anyone who runs, no matter the distance/pace. P.S. Loved the quote: It's not a matter of an "if" but "when" you're gonna do it! 💪
@@rundreamachieve Thank you. I been trying to break this for the last 5 years. 1:35,1:33,1:31,1:30:18, 1:36. Hopefully with your great tips I can get it in October. Long run tmro. I usually averagr 7:30 for 15 miles. Is that too fast? Thank you.
@@robertlennon5785 no, that is quality pace just make sure to vary up the paces during that long run. For example, first 3 miles easy, 3 miles@7:30, 2 miles easy, 1 mile in 6:20, 1 mile easy, 5 miles@7:10 pace followed the next week by an easy, relaxed long run. You will go 1:29:59 or faster in due time. You are right there.
@@rundreamachieve Man..thank you so much. Means alot. Thanks for your help. I'll be sharing your video with all my running friends. Ruthless_workouts on IG my friend. Thank you.
Perhaps, depending on the athlete R2 and I agree. 9-15 miles at 20-30 seconds slower than threshold is doable though. I have trained with some Kenyans that do this and other top level athletes from other countries as well. All depends on the maturity and background of the athlete. Of course, no one can immediately start doing runs of this intensity and length quickly. Appreciate your feedback and thanks for stopping in.
You’re very welcome. Appreciate you taking the time to listen. Significantly drop volume, 50% reduction 10-days out, of recommend a 3-mile run at goal race pace 4 days out from main event just to remind your legs of what your training them to do. Keep me posted on your progress.
Vo2MaxTips thanks for the advice. I always listen to every single one of your video. Gain some new knowledge and all. Appreciate you for sharing useful information 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
@@rundreamachieve Thank you :-) my longest run for my upcoming 1/2 mara will have been 3 and a half weeks out from the event- happy days 🙂 aiming for sub 90 mins so just hoping I can avoid any niggles now and get to the start line in one piece 🙏🙏
@@rundreamachieve let's hope so. Last time I actually went for a half was in 2012 and got a 1.31.08. I was 28. Let's see what we can do this time now I'm older and hopefully wiser! Lol
@@rundreamachieve Hi Nathan. So I PB but only by 5 secs. Pb is still a PB so happy with that. Very tough course as very exposed to what was a 15 mph headwind for about 2 miles of a 3 mile lap. Plus the wind came whilst we were climbing the longest slope of the course. Overall pretty happy though as it was a tough course and tricky conditions. On a flatter course with less wind I feel confident I'd break 90mins.
Thanks so much for your content! I would like to buy your sub 90min program but i dont know if i have the right requirements. I m 35, 186cm, 75kg, run since a year and i run 20k in 1h35min right now. I have 20month left until the event. How can i know if the program fits to me?
Thanks for your support Bernd. Your 1:35 20K is equivalent to a 1:40 half marathon. Yes, you are certainly capable of running 1:30. No, it will not be easy but nothing worthwhile ever is. I have a sub 1:30 and a sub 1:40 plan you can find at rundreamachieve.com/shop/?fwp_run_type=half-marathon Keep me posted on your progress. You CAN do this
You've been running for the past 20-somewhat years... How can you tell, that one particular type of workout, will bring you to your sub-90 min HM goal? It could just as well be because of the adaptations you've made over that many years! I'm almost in my 3rd year of running now (age 41) and I just got a sub 1h45m half ;) I follow the 80/20 approach like you suggest, but I also have a friend, who runs all his sessions at threshold pace, and he is improving the same way I am! It's a bit annoying... anyway. thanks for the video, and sorry for the rant
Yes, consistent work over several years is one thing but so many other variables that go into it. Without a doubt, it is that consistent work output and muscle memory that certainly play a huge factor HosTek. Keep me posted on your progress and VERY well done having run under 1:45 for the half. I wish more people realized how fast that actually is. Awesome job!
@@rundreamachieve Thank you, for your kind words of encouragement! You are right, sub 1h45m HM is a great achievement, but the problem with PRs is, that they tend to lead you down a certain path xD
